maybe it has something to do with...
No, it's because the Democratic party doesn't have a viable progressive message. All they have is "NOT TRUMP!"

They don't support single payer healthcare
They don't support universal college
They don't support raising the minimum wage to a living wage
They don't support ending the wars/conflicts abroad
They don't support ending the drug war

Go down the list of progressive positions the supposedly "progressive" party in this country should be on the right side of, and because of where the money comes from, the Democratic party can't support them, so instead they support shallow half measures that don't excite anyone while they cheat real progressives out of the political process. Now, as tty said, they face an enormous mountain to climb to regain any shred of trust or credibility they ever held with voters. Voters don't believe them, rightly so.

I guess all the shit they pulled during the primary has consequences after all :/

America's economy is hurting; you don't see it on TV because the media reports on the wealth generation by the top 10%, but the other 90% of us are struggling and slowly sinking.

Meanwhile the banksters are creating so much debt in an effort to keep the American economy from sliding off the cliff that the only way to balance the books will be inflation, whether we like it or not.

When this bad news hits the economy, there will be massive job losses and other hardship.

This will feed the fascist fires, just like German hyperinflation did during the Weimar Republic era just before the Nazi Party gained power.

We already have by far the world's biggest military, the largest stockpile of nukes, human history's biggest military budget and many powerful interests urging us to continue and expand our course of imperialism around the world.

Halfway through 2017, the United States has already conducted military operations including covert ops in 137 of the world's 196 countries.

Things will get worse before they get better. There is a strong Progressive Movement in America today that represents the will of the People but it's not well organized and there is a long history of the CIA, FBI, NSA and other Federal Government agencies actively suppressing and disrupting legitimate citizen initiatives. In addition, the right wing will see this as a direct threat to their interests and can be counted upon to react strongly, by any means necessary both fair and foul.

I do not want to see violence, I do not want to see civil war, and I want to see Americans resolve their differences peacefully. However, I think the time for nonviolent options is slipping away as those on the extreme right see that the use of force will continue to pay dividends for their cause.

In other words, I fear that blood in American streets and the Fascist takeover of our 'free country' is all but inevitable. The enemy is those who would use the vast power of our Federal Government AGAINST the rest of the people, not necessarily the Federal Government itself. A subtle difference rendered meaningless when those beating and killing innocent civilians in the streets and in their homes are wearing uniforms issued by Federal Government agencies.

This is an existential threat to everything America stands for. If you, dear reader, aren't scared, it's only because you don't see what's happening.
not only that my homie.. being former military I can tell you first hand.... Spec ops is what all the money is pouring into. They the "Government" feel it's the future warfare. Look at the X-37 as a example. They say it's a "Spy Plane"... haha that's funny considering it's design to deploy a unit of spec op's anywhere in the world in 45 min's or less with a halo insertion was it's real design. Just a thought here with my past held clearances. the other politics I can't comment on. I'm a war fighter, so i just hold my tongue to the rest of the talk. I'll let you'll get it done.

You don't need special clearances to know that we are spending 1 trillion over the next 30 yrs for nuke "modernization". Plus Trump want at least one if not two new nuke carriers, around 25 billion.

So far this year, America has had covert or overt ops in 137 of the 196 countries on Earth.

https://www.counterpunch.org/2017/07/05/red-state-doctors-why-immigration-from-muslim-majority-countries-matters-for-rural-america/

How hate and the Muslim ban will adversely affect those who support it most.

Many highly qualified medical professionals and doctors come from the very countries targeted by the so-called Muslim ban. Furthermore, these very same professionals have gone to rural areas to practice medicine in disproportionately higher numbers than those from other backgrounds.

Thus it seems that those in rural areas, who support the ban by larger margins than other Americans, stand to be the most adversely affected in a very personal way. This may be Karma at work.

Americans are stupid. It would appear conservative Americans in rural areas are even more so.

Who would you say of the two primary parties would be the most pro one-world-government?

What if we just look at the voters of the two groups, which group?
The Democrats like the UN. The Republicans are fine with a one world government, as long as it's ours. Global domination is the goal of the military.

All this plus increasing arms sales is inevitably leading to more instability and the chance of war- which the oligarchs will profit handsomely from, while it's left to the lower classes to suffer the casualties and privations.

I'm sorry to be so pessimistic.
