looking good! you have some real tall women there!

i read a thread before on trimming the leaves on clones. i tried this with half of mine and didnt see much difference (somewhat poor conditions though) but i think the biggest reason was to minimize the amount of light the clone was able to soak up so that the majority of its energy can go to the roots. its a little late now, but i've also read that alot of people prefer soil less mediums for cloning, rockwool type sure but also perlight, coco, etc. i'm no clone master, but i think enviroment has more to do with its surviaval than anything else... good luck with her... shes looking like most of mine did that i cloned in dirt..
Thanks for the pruning tips with the clone...I'll keep it in mind. I actually have rockwool type cubes...but I lost them somewhere...so, I guess, I don't actually 'have' them per se....more like I 'had' them...haha. Whatever...so far the clone is workin'.

hey mary, your plants are looking good!!! my water starts out at a ph of 8.1, after adding 4 teaspoons of tiger bloom, 2 teaspoons of big bloom and a couple of tablespoons of molases the ph drops down to 5. i bring it back up with a bit of baking soda.
Wow! Your PH drops that much when you add the fert's...crap! I'm not putting as much tiger bloom as you, but still my PH has to be too low if what your saying is true. If my PH is too low (water PH) then I may start doing nute, nute, plain water, nute, nute, plain water, nute nute, etc etc. This way they will have a little break from the nutes...I know Da Kine 420 does this...his plants are amazing.

Thanks everyone for the complements.

Small update...I swapped the heater with a brand new one today. Yesterday I decided to do a non-routine check of the area...and it was a good thing I did. I saw the temps hit 98 and I freaked out. The temps have never been that high before, at least, not that I have seen. They are usually mid to upper 70's, and occasionally low 80's. I immediately turned off the heater and the temps quickly dropped to around 85. When I turned the heater back on it did not run (it's supposed to keep temps above 70 and then shut off). So....today I swapped the heater with a new one. It doesn't look like any damage was done and the temps are right back in the 70's. I don't think they were in the 90's for very long. Gotta keep an eye on these babies! Aye carumba!!!

I've decided to change my nute schedule. I usually water every 2-3 days and add nutes every time. I'm now going to add nutes every other time, instead of every time. This will allow the plants to eat up everything and not cause me to get nute lockout or whatever it's called when the PH is too low. There is still a lot of nutrients in the Fox Farm soil. My water PH is around 7, so on plain water watering days (say that 3 times fast...), it should naturally raise the PH of the soil and give the plant a nutrient break. I don't really know what I'm talking about...I'm a newb and very stoned...lol. I'm flying a jet plane and hope I can land at the end of the flight!

i'm upside down and chewing gum..

you got a good idea there, i read somewhere else before that when nutes can lower your ph. too much info to recall when you need it...

i think actually since i started nutes every time, i started noticing some discoloring in my leaves on the one plant! yikes, it the one that smells super fruity.. i pulled a leaf and now i'm going to hit that link that hashlover posted on journal and see if i cant narrow down the prob.. i would think, ph problem or over nuted... it was good when it lasted.

good look with the heater. its in some tough conditions up there... and it was proboly made in china!

keep ur plan between the clouds

edit: it may be a nitrogen diff. i will give her the next drink with some grow big.. and see what happens..

Your upside down and chewing gum? huh? lol. I missed that one.

Yeah, I figure it be smart not to get nute lockout (duh)...it's better I change the nute schedule now, BEFORE I notice something bad happen. I'm sorry I recommended you nute every watering, I hope the discoloration isn't from that! Sorry man! Nute, water, nute, water, nute, water...this will be the new plan!

Thanks for the good luck.

I checked temps again and the area hit 93...the heater shut off and the temps dropped back down in the 70's, but...I'm wondering why this is happening. Last night, and the majority of the day it was 78. It's not any colder than it has been outside, but I think I am going to hang a couple more blankets behind the panda plastic. The heater may be running a little too much because colder air is coming in from the sides of the grow spot. For the most part though, temps are in the 70's. I'm pretty certain the 90 degree temps don't last that long (only when the heater runs a bit to long, which is NOT all the time) and the temps come back down fast enough to not cause damage (so far) once the heater shuts off. If I notice problems or stunted growth (I doubt it), then I'll do what needs to be done to fix it. For now, I'll get some more blankets to see if it helps. I'll let you all know when I hang them.

BTW, the grow area (and the building) is starting to smell delicious. The smell isn't that bad yet downstairs, but we'll see how strong it gets :).

hahaha, yeah the smell... mmmm.. yummy!

good luck finding your temp problems... i could rattle off a few ideas, but you know your area the best. i bet the draft idea could be the problem. if it happened at first i would say the area is too small for the heater to proprely regulate temps, but it didn't soo.... i doubt thats it!

hows that clone doing? i think with out the cloner bubbles and hydro setup - cloning is rather complex. if i count all the clones i have tried to start i bet i would be at like 30. i have 4 in flower, and 2 vegging well, and 2 that are still hanging on... it will come with practice, its good to see i have a few years in this hobby b4 i feel complete!

here comes 2009 baby!:leaf::fire::clap::weed::hug::spew:

First of all...Happy New Year everyone. May your buds be fat and your mind be at peace.

I just checked the grow spot and the temps were at 84. As I did my normal maintenance and checks, the temps fell to 78 and came back up to 80 (probably to rise a bit after I left). I have to love fighting winter...... Again, for the most part, it looks like the temps are in acceptable ranges. One blade on a top leaf of papaya4 had a yellow spot due to heat stress. No big deal, I've been keeping the plants as close as I can to the light...this was bound to happen sooner or later. Plus, I wanted to know how close they could get. Obviously.....I raised the light...and I also shifted the plants around to make better use of the light.

Papaya4 was pruned of 2 fan leaves today. Papaya1 (the stockiest girl, 20 inches right now) was cleaned of quite a few fan leaves a week or so ago (don't remember if I mentioned it). I haven't had to prune anything on papaya2...she is growing in such a way that the light is reaching all the right parts of the plant (papaya2 is my favorite and is 37 inches tall...she is budding the fastest and the most right now). I know I said I wasn't going to prune...but...I couldn't help myself when I can plainly see cutting a few leaves would help bud production and increase light coverage. I'm pruning as sparingly as I can.

The clone is hanging on. There really isn't much to report with it...I think it is growing slightly and the stem is sturdy. I've also pruned the bottom 2 fan leaves from the clone and gotten the CFL about 2 inches from it. It may take a bit...but hopefully I can turn the clone into something worthy. Come on little clone chicka!

Ummm let's see....oh, yeah!...there are trich's forming on papaya1 and papaya2. Papaya1, the stocky thick luscious wonder, is going to have a ton of bud at the top. I can't wait to see harvest time....she has lots and lots of buds forming at the top with a few side branches/later-to-be cola's...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Pics to come on the newly moved and newly improved weekly pic update...NOW on Monday's. Stay tuned and don't touch that dial!

Damn.......damn.......damn......damn......damn!!!!!!

My grow spot got found out...... Some locals near the building caught me on my way to water them....they actually told me if I don't stop what I'm doing they were going to call the authorities (I don't know how they know, but they do). I'm not going to tempt them into calling...so...I'm done...it's to risky and I've been living way to paranoid as it is. I can only guess they saw me take out water jugs or something...I assume this because it doesn't smell that bad yet....how else could they know? It looks like I'm going to have to call it quits until further notice (indefinitely for now). Our wonderful friends are being given away to someone who can care for them and give them the love they need. With any luck I'll be toking some papaya at the end of February.... I can't bring myself to kill them...not with buds and trich's forming. The locals may not like me growing them...but they can't stop someone else from doing it.

I'm sorry everyone...but that's how things go sometimes...it's a damn shame...I wanted to see this through and now I can't. I can't do it in my house because I have people over far to often and they would obviously know from the smell, etc.

I'll be around to keep an eye on your grows.......damn.........this is not cool. damn damn damn damn..........................!!!!!!!!!

Dude, according to most of the breeders, you shouldnt soak you seeds for more than 12 hours because fresh seeds already have moisture inside. You are drowning them. I had some AI seeds, did the same as you for the first 2 and nothing. The second two I put directly in soil, watered lightly, and in 36 hours popped up.
