Used to live in Anchorage in the 70-90's ,my bro in laws lived in the Mat valley
MTF
It was,is Stoney af looked Indy leaning in the bag lotsa leaf killer old school nose
It wasn't easy to acquire,u really had to know someone

the stuff i have access too is more lightish (lime) colored than most weed also.

Growing up I knew several old timers that all had a similar story. If it wasn’t for the fact that they ran in different circles, I wouldn’t be so inclined to believe them.

As lore goes, the original breeder of MTF was long ago raided and their crops seized and distroyed. Shortly after, recipients of the MTF who were lucky enough to find a seed tried bringing it back to Alaska but with insufficient genetics, the famed strained has been heavily “watered down” from the strain it once was. ATF was derived from a cros between the 2nd gen MTF and I forget what....

I chalk it up to being a strain long ago lost but it’s predicessors live on to try and fill the shoes the mothers before them once wore. Or maybe it never was but a name, used to build legends. Matanuska Valley area does make great produce!

I’ve seen many a bag claiming to be decedents but who knows nowadays. It’s easy to name something when most people have no way of ever verifying genetics... At least back in the day! Lol

Around the big lake, houston area we got some smoke (this was a few years before I grew)

The boys we got it from called it ELVIS dont know if its connected to any of the strains sold under the elvis names cause stoners tend to call their plants whatever sometimes lol

It was pure fire which i dealry wish to try again .
But alas i dont know who grew it .

Yah, we are round the same age. 20 years ago at least for me. I remember all my friends coveting the MTF whenever someone supposedly had it. Although if I had to pick any one strain I miss getting it’s Sour Diesel.
I had this one guy that knew a guy (like always right?) that once he came over, you knew he had it. Hell, you knew he had it before he came over, it was just that smelly! We actually never were more paranoid driving than if one of us had that stuff on us. The smell would stay in the car for days! Heck, I never did bring it home with me, my parents wouldn’t of been too happy. I’d always stash it at the end of the driveway or hide it at a buddy’s house although that carried its own risks!

Good times for sure.

Due to some unfortunate events, I never did meet who grew it. My friend left this earth and with him, his connection. If I could of only known a fraction on how the man grew and cured, I’d be a happy camper!

I think i have like 3-4 seeds of this from Sagarmath seeds(?) that I acquired like 10 years ago if not longer. This has been on my radar forever so I want to get them going if they will still pop plus be female at that. ;-)

Either way this strain has been on my bucket list from day one. Hopefully it has been worth the wait, and still is.

Wow! I missed a lot here....guess I need to make sure I'm subbed to my own thread.

Anyway....update time.

Day 25 plant 1
Day 21 ( i think) plant 2

Plant 1 before and after topping.
It really freaks me out every time I cut that much plant off...but it had to be done.

I topped just above the 2nd true node to achieve 4 main colas. Look up Uncle Ben's topping method for details....just in case you're wondering.

This is a picture of the Panama Red i just finished a bit ago. I topped this one the same way as the MTF, just above the second node. You have to tie down the top two branches so the lower ones can catch up in height. In this photo you can still see one of the original pipe cleaners i used to tie those branches down when they were little tiny things now grown out.
