McLellan says the government isn’t imagining a future of cool cannabis bakeries, bistros and bars.

“The government is not in the business of encouraging use,” she says. “Most people who work and research in this area will tell you marijuana is not a benign substance. But alcohol is not a benign substance. Tobacco is not a benign substance.”

What she’s hoping for, instead, is a regulatory regime that safeguards consumers, protects children, squeezes out organized crime and basically makes pot as uncool as possible.

“We want to de-normalize marijuana use, analogous to tobacco in that regard.”

Instead of building an industry and supporting the economy they are choosing to insulate themselves from reality and hold out hope that we don't realize they are behaving like the conservative party in regards to shirking their responsibilities. Do as i say not as i do kinda shit

I wonder when she'll figure out that we want to de-normalize political lies and oppression, analogous to democracy in that regard.. She doesn't want pot in bakeries or coffee shops but governments continue to hand out liquor licenses. Let's see if she can address the elephant in the room. Please tell us the costs of the medical and social harms related to cannabis and then do the same for tobacco and alcohol. Cost to taxpayers for alcohol abuse is $14.6 Billion/yr and tobacco use curiously does not give a dollar figure, but one can assume it is as high or higher than booze. Unless there is evidence that cannabis is at least as harmful, and we all no there isn't, people ain't buying what she's selling.

Maybe another list should be started. A list of asnine quotes that show both the ignorance and the bias against WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT.

The gov isnt there to tell the people what is good, bad, immoral and so on. They are there to do the bidding of the citizens that gave them the privilege of serving us.

They cant keep bringing up tobacco as an example and expect people not to have the right to grow their own like we can with tobacco. Which we are allowed to grow 15kg of
Until all this BS started, I had no idea we could produce our own tobacco. As a smoker, I would luv to grow my own, chemical free tobacco. Has anyone ever grown tobacco? What varieties are best? Where do I get tobacco seeds in Canada?

I'm game, but I'll need some help.... The government says a lot of stupid things, particularly when it comes to cannabis....

Only in Canada, the supreme court has the final say, not the politicians, and we almost always win for mmj rights. The shitty part is our tax money is paying to fight ourselves for a losing cause.
yeah but the Government does their best to screw t up. look at the MMJ trail
Parker gave us the right to use but the genius Feds didn't think to allow for production. "you can use it but you have no source"
then w went on from there-we go a right to produce but the patient can or get someone else but they can not have any help. we had to fight for more than 1 garden per grower so the Feds gave us 2 and not more than 4 lic per address-makes no sense. what if you have 4 lic for 20 plants each..you can't have anymore. if you have 1 lic for 170 plants you have way more plants and room for more lic's. it's been fight after fight because the Feds do the bare minimum and get their pee pees slapped. complete waste of $$. why not have someone who can create a decent program instead of trying to mess with us?

LMFO well the joke is on them, Like I keep saying you can not control a culture of people, Going to make Cannabis "Uncool" they will need to first take out all the youtube and instagram growers worldwide, they will have to ban hightimes mag, that will cause even more problems with free speech, lol. What a joke Hightimes is one of the only print mag's still expanding when almost everyone else has gone to digital, LMFAO, what a joke, look at our money, we pump over 3B a year into Cannabis as a culture worldwide, LMFAO what a joke, thats like saying your going to make masturbation "Uncool" good luck with that.

I got seeds for you my Brother. I actually have some Virginia Tobacco growing right now. Every time I walk by it the stuff kicks up this really beautiful Tobacco smell, it smells like a pack of Marlborough from the 90's
