Everyone needs to get a long in order for this to work... this means you kindprincess

We can discuss what needs to be added, articles and changes to the current system.

If you would like to opt out please let me know, also if there are other users you feel are knowledgeable please post and I will add them.

Of course all current mod's etc are apart of this.

Al B Fuct
Videoman

They both have LOTS of knowledge. Al more in hydro and Video in doing it yourself. They would add a greater variety of knowledge.

1) Kindprincess (knowledge and very level headed)
2) fdd2blk (Wow. He has added tutorials to FAQ, is VERY knowledgable, nice and friendly, good soil growing knowledge, can't go wrong with this addition)
3) nongreenthumb (again good knowledge, quiet and understated but a very good person)

I just don't understand the last addition. I think Beaner would be a better addition. He would be able to help us with the addition of mushrooms. He has done A LOT of work in this area. And we don't even have anything in FAQ about it YET.

Lily doesn't post much but in messages between us I have found out that she makes a lot of candy and such (she is a mm patient) with pot. She has tons of recipies. This could be very handy. FAQ doens't have any info like that.

i agree with all of these. al b hasn't been around as much, I gather? unless he's back, I haven't checked. videoman, i imagine you would love to get to grips with something like this?

It seems like a large undertaking, no disrespect intended, as growfaq is already massive. will you be adding more graphics? I like the site the way it is, i think you have the right mix to keep the site easy on the eye. Although the growfaq seems to lack this quality.

Lily is a marijuana candy expert.

Beaner is a mushroom growing dude.

Al B Hydro

fdd soil, hash oil, breeding, etc.

kp soil, breeding, very nice

nongreen growing in general, quiet and polite, knowledgable, level headed

The whole point is getting people involved that represent a variety of knowledge. We need to expand FAQ. Mushrooms are a good example. Beaners thread has been runnning forever and gets tons of views. It should be a FAQ.

Lily's candy making for medical marijuana patients could be invaluable. Making this site a must see for mm folks.

We need someone with extensive hydro experience. Al not only has that but has a scientific mind also. He was in a car accident and has needed some surgery. So check with him on his status.

Roseman. bubbleponics, although I prefer the term DWC.

babygro. all round knowledge, and a desire to improve the faqs.

anyone grow NFT?

what about real aero' growers? To qualify you must've had at least 2 successful harvests.

Roseman & Al B. have been added to the list, I think this is good for now all of the people here are excellent users and with a great growfaq it will make this site 100% better.

Where I think we should start is suggestions on modifying our current growfaq and then work from there.

Next would be to identify what area's are lacking and then put members of our team in there to sort it out.

Roseman and Al B. if you are not up for this let me know.

You might want to send Al B a personal message. Last time I talked with him he was scheduled to go in for surgery.

Please start with DIY & Save that catagory is overrun and needs sorting BAD. Many of the items there could fit into other catagories more appropriately.

Then growing indoors is very sparse.

i think grow faqs needs a way to be searched easier. i don't see a way to search only grow faqs.

It's going to be hard to change anything graphic wise having looked at how the faq is setup.

The only thing to do is to make it more simpler for users to understand.

As soon as you enter the faq you are bombarded with masses of information, this needs to be cut down and split into more general headings to start with.

So the first screen you only get like 13 options or whatever, then the faq unfolds and more information becomes available, but the user is not expected to have to look at every heading in order to find what he is looking for.

I have been looking at other sites grow faq, most sites seem to have put absolutely no effort in at all.

Just try out the great icmags'

put a search in for light cycle and match any words. see what you get

I couldnt even locate their grow menu, I think the navigation is a bit hard on the eyes, what main categories do you suggest we can branch off of.

I would like to see it easier to navigate. It's a tad bit difficult to find all the info you want unless you are familiar with it. Need help from you looking at what is where.

If you see something that doesn't belong where it is. Then that is a problem that needs to be addressed. I need you in all your wisdom to figure out where that misplaced artilce should be.

Also if the catagories need to be spruced up please consider that. How can we make those easier to navigate and more explaintory of what is contained within at the same time?

If you see any info that is incorrect that needs to be pulled. But we need to put something in it's place if we pull it. Remember the saying that a picture is worth a 1000 words.

A turtorial with pics is more helpful to people than a long winded article. fdd's turtorial on making hash is a wonderful example and if you check you can see the huge number of hits that one article has had. People love that.

This is the killer. We have to try to keep this balanced. A little for everyone. Don't forget the stuff that doesn't interest you because there is someone out there who it does interest.

It would seem the easiest way to proceed would be by dividing this into catagories of expertise. But that is just my opinion.

ok, let me start off by saying that the growfaq's could be simplified by combining like topics into a forum type board, but with locked threads.

for instance, germination can be different in soil or hydro, therefore, there could be two germ faq's. we could have a hydro forum faq, and soil. then, things like diy's and techniques could go to the appropriate side. when some one comes to look for something, they can choose the section that applies to them.

i like the look and layout of these forums... why not make the faq a part of the forumboards, but with locked faq's?

KP the only way I can think of that working is to create a thread sticky that thread and put the information in that way, however when a user logs in it will take up there whole first screen with stickied threads... do you have a working example of how this works ?

Do you think we should start with indoor or outdoor, then goto hydro / soil and go from there because the Water, nutrients and addatives management would be different for soil or hydro

Sorry for my late input, I hadn't seen this until now.

My biggest concern with the existing GrowFAQ is it's ease of use, particularty for beginner or those new to growing. When opening up the GrowFAQ for the first time, they're confronted with a bewildering array of topics and many of these topics are based or identical to the old 'Overgrow' FAQ topics, that wern't necessarily written with beginners or newbie growers in mind.

In my opinion the GrowFAQ needs to lead new growers through the whole process of growing and setting up a grow operation. This means tailoring the information to what they need and want to know in a logical sequence, rather than perhaps simply allowing them to pick a topic they think may contain the information they want, and if it doesn't, get frustrated and give up and ask a question in the forums instead.

This may well mean, taking information from a wide variety of existing FAQ's, newly written information and new information all making up a new set of FAQ's, or perhaps even just one file, with hyperlinks jumping out and expanding on words, phrases and topics within the file.

I would like to suggest we could think about perhaps simply creating 3 main folders and other folders as follows -

New Growers
Experienced Growers
Advanced Growers
Cooking with Cannabis
DIY
Case studies and tutorials
Misc - conversion charts etc

Users will now have only 3 main folders to select or one of the other 4.

Within the New Grower folder, you could simply have one file - such as 'Introduction to Growing Cannabis' and then within that file use those hyperlinks to jump to other topics expanding out of that one file. Or you could create a sequence of files such as

1. Introduction
2. What to do first.
3. Soil or hydro? (This could be something like a discussion of the pluses and minuses of each, with hyperlinks out to more detailed information if they want to take them)
4. Lighting
5. Ventilation

Etc etc. It's far more logical to lead people through a sequence 1,2,3, etc of what WE want them to read and learn, rather than perhaps what THEY may think they need to know and learn which is the way the current GrowFAQ is.

Just a few of my thoughts on how we could perhaps restructure the GrowFAQ on a basis that would be most helpful to new growers. It's really intended as a discussion starting point.
