All part will arrive tomorrow including the hs, very fast service from KingBrite. I'll be using Polyimide tape to secure cobs to hs to test the coverage and I'm thinking about any other lights (royal blue etc) to add to array to enhance the performance in the near future (like tomorrow) once I decide on what is needed, opinions?.

I've heard that you can use Poyimide tape to secure the cobs for a final installation rather than drilling and taping, what's the forums opinion on using tape ?

Hi Stephen, hope I'm not being a pest. I have been searching the net trying to find a recommended minimum distance from the edge of the hs for the cob placement and can't find any info. Is there a minimum distance or better yet what would you do?

And thx for the replay above...

Stephen, I've wet sanded the hs down to 1200 grit and it looks good. I'm going to install the chips tonight using tape and thermal chip silicone to test the coverage before I drill and tap the hs and wanted to get you take on wire. Anything I should be looking for?

Oh, one more thing, I can't figure out the math on what I'm going to end up with once completed, can you help me out with the numbers? I've got a lot to learn...

Thx and Happy Thanksgiving if you celebrate it!

Thx for the reply bassman999, makes sense and its stiff. Are you a bass player? Me , just a lonely blues guitarist.
I just love music used to be a car audio installer.

I soldered my cobs and used 14awg in wall speaker wire.
I attempted the tapping and gave up and used Kapton tape instead.

Yeah, I like the idea of no drilling but will see how things go. I know Supra like tape only but when I see his projects and see just how busy he is answering our questions (don't ever stop Supra), I can see where tape is the way to go. Might drive to Fry's when the traffic dies down.

I have the tape and finished mounting the chips, just need to get the, build the connectors and figure out how I'm going to mount the power supply. Guitar is a tuff instrument but I've been playing for 50+ years. It's therapy!

Is that enough tape?
I used like 10X that much.
I really dont know what is right so I went with excess.
I would post a pic of mine, but its ugly with tape ans wires.

Hell, I don't have a clue of what I'm doing but I'm learning :-). I've seen guys like Supra using small amounts of tape. I've read that the suction from the thermal paste is enough to transfer the heat to the hs and from what I've read, a very thin coat, more is not better.

This growing thing is all new to me but I'm having fun!

I am going to build more or add to my fixture, at that time Ill clean mine up less tape or tap them in properly.
Ive grown for about 5 yrs now.
I am nowhere near the level of most growers here though, but I couldnt afford to buy the weed I grow thats for sure.
I sure do spend a lot of stuff for growing though.
Its time to sell off lots of stuff I don't use.

Yeah, I've been tokin for 40+ years and since it's become legal to grow in Oregon I decided that I would give it a go. My wife mentioned that it would be cheaper to buy but I'm having fun and I like knowing what I'm smoking!
I got pneumonia like 15 yrs ago smoking local crap with mold.
Mst ppl are using strong pesticides throughout flowering also and other ornamental use chemicals.
Thats the main reason I grow my own

Hello fellas, Stephen if your around, I've finished installing the chips (temporary to check coverage), it's wired, power supply and light hooked up. Gave it a test drive for a few seconds and all looks great, can't wait to hang it and see what the girls think of it.

A couple of questions...

How do you clean the cob surface?
For the life of me, I do not understand the equations that you guys throw around regarding PAR, PPFD and the rest of the stuff and I have no idea of what I just built but I know it's good. If someone could be so kind to take a look at this build and tell me what I have and what improvements I can make in the near future (this build was the beginning and not the end). I know it's a little weak in the blues and suggestions would be most helpful and much appreciated. Here's a shout out for Stephen who helped me a bunch, I owe you big time and this place rocks!

Here's what I have-

8- cxa3070 3000k ab's wired parallel
hlg320H-36a
no lenses at this time
chip spacing on a 40" X 12" passive heat sink is 10" on center with a single centered at each end.
The area to be covers with this light is 3'X5'

Only thing left to do is drill out the corners for eye bolts.

Thanks

Sounds like my Light except bigger in every way.
Mine is 8x29 with 6 cobs driven by a HKG-240-42B.
I have plans o add more cobs or build a 2nd one.
Area I am covering is 2x4
