New 5x5x7ft Tent and 315w CMH

So, I had a friend graciously gift me this here setup. I plan to set it up during the coming days. It's a 5x5x7ft Vivosun tent, with a Hydrofarm Phantom 315w CMH to go with. It also has all the Inkbird controls, with an AC Infinity inline duct fan, paired with the biggest damn charcoal filter ive ever seen! Lol. He also gifted me a 150w Blurple COB LED and a bunch of other timers, thermometers/hydometers, extra industrial duct fan, surge protectors, etc. What a f*ckin guy!!!!

Now I have about 500w of LEDS lying around that I can use already for this setup, but its 3 entire different lights, that don't match. 300w are in my 2x4 now. But, I think the CMH will be a cleaner setup and look. Hell, it will probably grow better as well! I also have heard really good things about CMH's, so I'm excited to try it out. Efficiency isn't a huge deal here and it's obvious my friend didn't cut corners with his hobby....

Now. I've had a lot of other HID setups, but never a CMH. Only a few smaller ones that I've made out of house fixtures/ballast and my bought MH/HPS 600w cooltube grow light, that i still have. This is by far the nicest stuff I've ever owned haha... It's my understanding that these don't get as hot, or use as many watts, but still put out the same amount of light as an equivalent HID or LED. Is this correct? I'm just wondering if this light is big enough for this setup and will grow like i need it to? He swears it is and claims massive yields from one Gorilla Glue Auto run, using this setup and I'm not doubting his ability or anything of that nature, he's a good friend... I'm just wanting some other opinions. Maybe of some other ppl that have a similar setup? This thing only has ONE GROW under its belt.....

He also swears it doesn't get very hot. That he just had it in his garage, with the negative pressure of the inline duct pulling outside for air. He claims he even had to use a heater during lights out. All of which I believe, as it was in his garage. This is going in my house though, so I plan to have an inline duct, hooked to the Rainbird (so it cuts on and off at free will to keep in my set parameters), coming directly from outside and the cold winter air that it holds via a window. As well as the AC Infinity doing its think 24/7, which is sucking air out of that same window, via the charcoal filter. If it does indeed get too hot still, with that going on. I have the ducts to attach onto the sides of the light fixture, to make it a cool tube type setup. So I think I have the temp under control, I definitely have lots to work with and could easily have winter air pulling over that light in an instant.

*Update - I'm actually thinking of swapping the light fixtures and using my MH fixture, as it is vertical and already has the ducts on it. Would I need to swap the entire socket and cord over to that hood? I don't believe they have the same connections, so I'm sure I would. But it's easy enough. I'm planning a setup, like I have pictured...

That said, does anyone have any opinions on this sucker? I have 6 Vaghan Marmalade's from a breeder by the name of Jolly Pond Farm's out of my local Virginia. 2 of which are clones and still in the humidity dome right now - they're from the biggest plant. All of this is in my 2x4 tent right now and as u can expect, it's already crowded. Im really excited about these plants, as theyre already SUPER bushy and bulking up nicely. Its a cross of VA Beach Ghani and Limetta Maramalade. Everyone is always raving about the Virginia Ghani, so im very excited to see it bred with a lemon strain! I plan to throw them into the tent, along with a Critical XXL Auto (that is in germ now) during their veg stage. When the auto finishes and i harvest some smoke..... thats when ill flip the phenos.

Thoughts, opinions, anything? Lol!
- Peace!

315 watts in a 5x7 isn’t enough light. Shoot for 40 watts per sq.ft for CMH. 32-40 watts per sq. ft.for LED.
Yea I've been looking around and where it may suffice for veg and an auto or 2, its not going to cover it the way I want. For this particular run, I'm going to throw my 200w full spec LED in with it.

I'll grab up a matching fixture eventually. For now, this will have to do!

Got it set up today and come to find out, it's a 4x4ft tent, which actually is a perfect fit for me!

I also got my 315w CMH wire and socket swapped over to my 600w MH hood, so that I can connect the ducting through the light fixture. I went to put the bulb in and it was busted, so it'll be a few days before a new one comes. Any recommendations on bulbs??

For now, running a 200w LED and a 100w LED! Inkbird is set to cool and keep temps in check, via another 6" inline duct fan that it powers on/off, pulling air from the winter outside...

Right now, the recently flipped plants in my 5x5 seem to absolutely hate my 480w QB. Threw a 315w CMH in there and they're loving it. Far from an ideal wattage situation for that much space, but they're just not feeling LEDs right about now.

Dang that sucks. Wonder why? Do you have a temp difference with the CMH? I've noticed this strain likes a hotter, brighter environment than normal. They basically take what you throw at em! Can't wait to get the CMH rollin...

Now you can run the 200w and the 315 and be in the ballpark for lighting.
Yea no doubt. I'll keep the other 100w in there too. Lol. With this size tent, fuck it, just give every plant their own LED. HAHA!

Anyone have a recommendation on a bulb?? And what about the glass, does anyone put their glass in their light fixtures??

Temp difference seems fairly negligible. The QB seems to throw just a little more general heat, but I'd guess the plants want the increased UV from the CMH. It's only a few degrees difference between the two lights, which is kind of the confusing part. Screw it, though. If they wanna droop under the QB but pray from the CMH, the choice seems clear to me. Hoping they'll start to want to cool down a little after stretch. The little extra yield from the higher wattage would be nice, if they decide they can start liking that light.

No idea whether it's considered 'good' or not, but here's the main CMH bulb I use:

Yea I feel you... I never thought about the UV. I keep forgetting we have to supplement it in the LEDS. Luckily my two LEDS have it in there, but probably not nearly as much as the CMH haha. I think I'll just use my two 200w LEDs during veg (more for efficiency than anything), as my plants seem to love it. Then, when I switch to flower, I'll drop the CMH to add in with them, for a total of 700w during flower (i can dim the LEDs as needed). So I'm looking for a good flower bulb for the CMH, more than anything....

*Edit*
Got the other 200w QB wired up and hung. Let's see how they handle 400w of Chinese goodness thrown their direction!

I've also attached some photos of the setup and current plant layout. The one in the middle is a bagseed from a lemon strain I had, hence why it's in a bag lol. I made said bag from 4 layers of window screen replacement, as a little experiment for future endeavors... we'll see what happens, seems to like it so far! Theyve handled everything ive thrown at them thus far, but this is by far the most light they've gotten throughout their life though, so I will keep a close eye on temps and any signs of stress.

I have my LEDS so low, it almost feels like I shouldn't lol. But the plants are absolutely eating it up and temps stay at 73°F. The light fixtures don't put out hardly any heat with my mods - u can literally grab the QB at any time and they're cool to the touch.

What distance do yall run your LEDS from your plants during veg? Mine are at 19" above the plant's canopy....

Sunmaster full nova (worth every penny)
Phillips
Ushio
Yea I've been looking into the CMH bulbs and the Sunmaster definitely looks like a good option. I was also looking at Solis-Tek, they're pretty expensive, but I've read a lot of good things about them. Whatever it is, it's only going to be used in Flower, so im looking for a 3k bulb.

What about Par Pro, ever heard of them? I found a bulb from them on Ebay for about $30. I'm looking for a mid range bulb atm for flowering this first round of plants. I just don't have the money for a $80 bulb, this close to Christmas haha

Cheap bulbs are .... Well..... Cheap
I only use those 3 oh and illuminar but I think they might be goners now.
My sun master gets the biggest fattest buds with the most Crystal.
I have others, and I dont use them

Wanna send me one? Lol naw jk. Yea I know all about cheap bulbs, I have some rather nice ones for my MH and HPS fixtures. Sucks they don't take the same socket

That's decent right there! What kind of LED???

Ended up getting my Sunmaster Full Nova for $35 on Amazon a couple of years ago. Of course, haven't seen the damn thing anywhere near that cheap ever since.
Yea I don't mind spending $50 or less, I just can't justify anymore right now, with Christmas and my daughters bday right around the corner. Lol

growers house tested CMH bulbs along time ago here is the tests
im currently in the process of setting up a CMH light im replacing my led.
led is awesome because high end led's produce 220 lumens per watt+/-
CMH lights depending on the bulb can produce anywhere between 70 to 120 lumens per watt.
the thing that CMH lights have going for them is the spectrum
Solsense355WCMHlamp.jpg
look at the difference between LED and CMH spectrum its a huge difference :(

Hell of a deal .. used?
I think I got mine for 75 on sale
I love my 315s
They have a de 1000 CMH or 900 can't remember. It's a beast. Gotta have alot of headroom though which I don't have so I just run 3 315s in a 5x5 with a QB to fill the gap
The spectrum is key. It also produces alot of ir and UV
