New Beginnings for Massachussetts and I

Keeping an eye on the crop as it heads toward harvest.
Here's a closeup from #5 ... It's a bit ahead of the others and it looks like I've got milk and amber but a second opinion would be appreciated.

And the second question

If they're not ready to chop, does it make sense to trim off buds that are not getting any light and all the lower vegetation?

I would love it if you could come up! a friend is gifting me his old viparspar 300w led and rope hangers, would love your help hanging my old mars hydro and this new one up as I have never even SEEN a rope hanger before, and would also appreciate your expertise on my setup and grow. I could 'gift' you a little of my recent conquest too! :-)

If memory serves, you were talking about fans/filters/odors recently.

Trimming my ass off, and still not done- pulled allnighter after work Mon. night til 6am.(1 plant), got Stebbins over next day( thanks mucho,Pal) after 4 hrs. sleep, chopped 2nd out of 4, trimmed until 6pm-got up @ 9am.,finished popcorns from 2 days(think large trashbag full),and cut 10 more top buds from remaining 2 plants and trimmed and hung-rest of them can wait til next week(3 day weekend + birthday), plus Clean up 3 1/2 acre yard, mow for 3 hrs.,plant outside grow- + smoke some Brisket(need really big papers) nice, relaxed atmosphere out here in the Boonies. Now I need to have some cheese to go with all my WHINE LOL.

No worries,Axe- We are friendly here & try to help each other out- I've spent ~ 200 hrs. + learning stuff off multiple forums and Youtube and continue to research, but always nice to get info from here from someone that ACTUALLY knows.Your doing great with your grows from what I have seen-I need to start researching more on edibles, oil, etc. due to an overwelming amony of sugar leaves and popcorn(can only make so many cookies)

Does anyone here know about cannabis and proper "lux"? i saw on the internet that for flower lux on canopy should be around 70,000 and veg 50,000. I just downloaded an app for my phone, and when I tested my plant canopy it was 11,000!!! (that is with the mars 300LED AND a 32w CFL )
Putting the phone right under my LED gave a reading of 49,000.

does this mean my plants are not getting adequate light, and I can lower everything?

That means that the author is a disingenuous twit. Any discussion of LUX instead of PAR, PPFD, or micro moles as part of a serious discussion is just dumb. Lux and foot candles measure visible light, a lot of which is in frequency ranges that aren't really helpful to our leafy friends.
My 800w COB fixture in the flower tent puts out around 142,000 lux over 25 sq ft area but the plants don't receive anywhere near that. At 18 inches above the canopy they get 30-40K lux and they're happy as can be.

How high are your lights? Next, 20,000 will work.Next ,the phone app doesn't read that well. If your in veg. more than 12" high- 18" height will work for entire grow. The Mars and Vipar have very direct & small coverage 2' by 2 footprint.- K.I..S.S principle. If it works, don't change it.

Like the other guys said. It depends on the quality of light. I use my cheapo lux meter to see if light levels are the same on my canopy.

For seedlings I put my cobs at 30". lux measures around 15k

For full veg and flower -18" gives them around 30k-50k lux and they are very happy girls.

When i was running my 1000w hps at 18"in flower, they were getting up to 70k lux and still thrived. They can take a wide range of intensity depending on stage of growth.

This site helped me understand a lot. http://www.growweedeasy.com/lux-meter

HID and most led lights need a respectable distance.

OK....2nd led panel idea fell through with son. I do need more light in my tent (3x2x5). I have the mars hydro 300 and a few cfl's. what would you guys recommend? I was told I should nix the led and the cfl's and go with a 400w sunmaster dual spec bulb and cool tube for good yields....sigh. so confusing, LOL

Don't buy an HID light (light bulb type) for home use.

RIU has some of the very best horticultural LED lighting available anywhere at any price. And they're affordable. Start here with quantum boards;

Mom, if you need help designing/building something that will work, there are lots of us here who can help. Several of us have built solutions based on both quantum boards and cob's.

Quantum boards are the next evolution?

What is your budget? LEDs would be awesome. My plants love my 500w cobs as well as they did the 1000w hid.

Lower budget maybe T5s? Has anyone used vertical T5s?
