I’m resurrecting this thread... I currently use the titan flow and grow. Can anyone reach out to me? I have a few questions. You will save my life!!!

What is iws? Basically I’m trying to figure out what my ppm should be in veg and flower. I use hydroton and my media and I CANNOT seem to get this right. I feed 7 times a day during veg.

Well, that's not really a system specific question, more a general hydroponics one but I'll go in anyway.

IWS is the same system by another manufacturer. I pot based flood and drain with a brain and float valves etc.

Your PPM shouldn't be any specific number. It's not a be all and end all, you just use it to keep an eye on what your plants are doing. If it goes up over time, they are drinking more than feeding and vice versa. A good rule of thumb is to take whatever dosage your nutrients say on the bottle and half it or quarter it to start with.

7 times a day on a 24hr or an 18 hour day? I guess 24 which is every three hours which seems fine. What is the problem?

As a rough estimate. Your plants once they are in veg, maybe 8 inches tall with 4 sets of leaves, anywhere between 400-800. You can go up to 1500 in flower, but more isn't always more.

they do not seem like they thrive. I can clone 24 plants in my turbo cloner ( aero cloner) at 650 ppm but as soon as I drop them into hydroton they get stressed out. I understand that you can get transplant shock, but it almost seems like they do not want to grow and start showing deficiencies. I transplanted them into hydroton rocks with a ppm of 750 and they are starting to show discoloring. I did read on my bag of hydroton that the rocks should be soaked in ph water. Is this normal to soak them? I typically rinse them to get the dirt off

Yeah I've heard soaking.. never done it myself. I rinse them thoroughly till the water running off them is crystal clear, then use them. Sounds like you are having more than transplant shock. pH is going to be the culprit i suspect.

Yeah that’s the thing is ph won’t stay steady. I noticed ppms were rising as well as ph. I took out enough nutrients to get it to 500 and I saw it ppm were still rising. I dropped nutrients down to 450 and they still rose... it’s super weird, I can grow rooted clones in coco with 1200ppm from start to finish with absolutely no issues.

When you say pH isn't steady, how much not steady? A gradual rise or fall is one thing but gaining 4 points in a day is obviously a problem.

I mean, it could be a whole load of things. What's the temperature of your res? how big is it? what else are you putting in it? does it smell funky? any green slime? Are you changing nutes from cloning to veg? Are you using calmag, if so how much?

I would do a whole load of top watering to see if you can rinse off the hydroton anymore, make sure your temps aren't silly, maybe think about enzymes, depending on the answer to all the above.

Ph will jump from 5.5 to 6.3 in one day. I’m not using cal mag. I’m using dyna gro foilage pro with a little bit of protekt which is silica. Resevoir temps are 72. I do change nutrients from cloning to veg. I basically slightly increased the amount of nutrients with a fresh batch. No green slime and no funky smell. I recently switched from general hydro flora series to dyna gro because I heard it’s more ph stable.

Id feed more often for shorter periods. 6 to 8 feeds for 8 to 10 min each. Each drain pulls oxygen into root zone so the more you do that the better. And lower your ppm until plants ask for more food. Easier to add than remove
