00b0b_lWjWXlmq5Kv_600x450.jpg In looking at some compost on craigslist and was wondering what you guys think. And how should I mix this with my base soil? I will be using teas as well with this grow.
Here's the ad

"Garden blend compost available. This is a FULL ORGANIC product, no chemical ingredients !! This wonderful soil is already mixed, making it user friendly, no mixing required. Our blend consists of a base of 48% decomposed pine bark, then 16% chicken litter, 16% mushroom compost, and 16% decomposed hardwood. Excellent product, all of our plants are grown in this garden blend and do very well.

This product also works excellent for repairing dead spots in your lawn, used as a topsoil under new sod, also for planter boxes, raised beds, or anywhere you need to grow big and strong plants."

how should I mix this? And is this a good organic mix for cannabis

Thanks-bionic

That's a healthy pile right there. My biggest worry is the following when dealing w of site composts made by others
1. What was introduced into said compost. (rock dusts)?
2. How long was it cooked for.
completely digested or " finished" compost is ideal as under cooked or not quite finished is detrimental.
3. the amendments or biochars used before the cooking process.
maybe you could see the compost in action on the property?

also the ph worrys me. pine is very acidic
Bear in mind your not planting DIRECTLY into the compost dude. Your using the compost in the same way youd use earth worm castings....If you get a test on it and find its "hot" just use less man. Like a good man said here donbrennon, tests are great but you can get an overall feel for your soil by your plants and how they respond to it also.

Depends on your definition of teas friend!
i was planning on brewing a veg tea and adding a small scoop great white each time and letting it cook for 3 or 4 days that way the micros have plenty of time to multiply.

i will mix the above soil with half fox farms happy frog with 30% perlite
and add this tea every 3rd watering. far from the supersoil i want but hopefully i can get an okay and better result than using synthetic in soil like i have been

Great white is a mycorrhiza product right? You do not want to brew that in a tea. They will die. They need to be applied to the root zone immediately. You can add them after you are done by brewing, right before you apply them to the plants.

And a few days is way more than needed, going that long can actually be detrimental as it'll allow time for pathogens and harmful bacteria to form.

Not sure what your veg tea recipes but my favorite is super simple...

Alfalfa meal
Kelp meal

1tbsp per gallon of water for each.

Steep for 24 hours (no aeration needed)

Then apply.

I think you're worrying too much about ph bro, just mix up what you got.

Pine bark fines has been part of my mix from day 1 (over 40 years), and has been no problem. The normal lime that you would add (1cup/cf), is more than sufficent to counter any acidity. Bark is good stuff, don't compare it to pine needles or heartwood, it's a totally different animal.

In any event, you should be adding a liming agent to your mix, dolomite, calcitic, oyster shell flour, etc.
