I currently have 5 plants in a 4x4, that was not the plan but that is what is in there, After topping a few times and FIM, the tent is already full in "area" and only 1 1/2 week into flowering....Lesson learned....lol
Great, thanks for the reply! I'll make sure to top her a bunch. I thought their was a point when topping too much will create a bunch of smaller less dense popcorn nugs? How many times can I top and still yield large dense nugs?

I will definitely veg. longer. Any idea how long I should plan to veg. her for? Also, when is a good point to install the Scrog and start filling it in?

Thanks!
B
Sorry took me a minute to reply,You can top as much as you want. When doing a long veg make sure to spread out your canopy to get down on lower light. Check out Robert Braskey on YouTube. Change my whole outlook on topping. Get back to me and let me know what you think. One

I've read that you should Veg for 30days or enough to fill 40% on screen as after photoperiod switch, growth is expotential and fills area quickly. (Don't top after photo switch)

If you are scrogging then you are going to need at least a month for a good start, with some topping.

WIP: I wanted a 150Watt 2 cob CXB3590 and unfortunately the MeanWell driver I wanted was 6 week lead time APO and I had to purchase the TGL 100W example driver since Flowering is 2-3 weeks away :(. I should be okay with that and the 60W Cree 2700K light bar I made from Cree A19 household LED bulbs :D

Update Veg Day 22

Hey guys, wanted to give a quick update on the AK plant. I couldn't wait any longer for the large 5 gallon pot to arrive. The plants growth was slowing and beginning to show signs of being root bound.

To keep it healthy, I transplanted her into this 2 gallon pot about 4 days ago. I will let it veg in this pot for another 2 weeks or so, I will then move into the larger 5 gallon pot.

All in all everything seems good and she is happy!

Also, I had to move the plant to a new location for a few days. The new spot is temporary and will only be for the next few days.

On a side note, this Kind soil is fantastic! No more adding nutrients or battling plant deficiencies. Just water every few days, couldn't get any easier :)

I am planing to top again soon (Maybe today or tomorrow, I just wanted the plant to be healthy again), let me know your thoughts!

You should probably get a better light. I don't think 150w is going to cut it for one plant in flower, let alone two. If there is one thing you shouldn't skimp on, it's your light. That's going to determine not only the size and growth rate of your plant, but also how much bud you harvest at the end.

Also, this is more subjective nitpicking, but I don't think you can call that first run a first grow if you didn't even flower it. Not trying to be a dick, just giving a perspective.

Otherwise, good shit so far.
Hey man, sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. I understand the 150w led will not be nearly enough to get the most from this girl. I've been looking into better LED's and will most likely pick one up before I switch her over to flower. This has been my plan for awhile, I am still deciding on a light.

If you had any recommendations for a good quality LED, I would defanitly consider it! I'm also thinking about getting a COB led. Just not 100% on what I'm going to pick up ATM.

And no problem bud, I agree that my first run was not actually a legit "1st grow." That being said, is there a way for me to edit my original post?

Best regards,
B

I strongly recommend skipping LED panels and going straight to COBs.

Get one Tasty T1-V196 for a single plant. 85w of COB (92 including fan) will give you the PPFD of a 600w HPS in an 18x18. No bullshit. I have one of those and 2 older model Tasty T1-2100 using top bin Cree CXB3590s instead of new 7th Gen Vero29Cs. My setup's 4x2, and I could cover a 4.5x4.5 if I wanted. Spend the extra $50 and get a COB. Do yourself a favor and skip panel LEDs.

Update Veg Day 29

Hey guys, just giving a quick update. The plant is still at it's temporary location. I have a new tent on order, it should be arriving in the next day or so. The tent will be her final location and I will continue to veg. for another 2 weeks until I can plant her in the 5 gallon pot.

Link to tent: https://www.amazon.com/Giantex-Indoor-Reflective-Hydroponic-32X32X63/dp/B00PXK7ICK/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1480458982&sr=8-8&keywords=grow+tent

The next plan is to install a scrog and find a better light solution before entering 12/12.

ATM I have topped the plant a total of 7 times, 2 of which were done this afternoon. Not sure how much more I am going to top until I can get her moved into the new tent and spread out under the light.

*Do you guys ever lollipop the lower leaves or cut the bottom branches? All the small stuff at the bottom seems to be getting in the way when I try to spread the mains apart. I'm not really sure what to do with the lower stuff. Let me know your thoughts...

For now, enjoy some pics! Shes defanitly a bit crowded in her current home but I'm sure she won't mind a few more days until I get her into the new tent.

I have the same question about trimming the lower branches... (I'm still in Veg state) o_O

You are at the perfect time to trim down leaves. Don't take too many at one time. Concentrate on the leaves that are blocking light. I wouldn't take off more than ten at a time every two weeks. Just get the bud blockers first. The lower branches that aren't going to make much noise I take off completely and give her some allow flow beneath.

I don't how much longer I should veg if I start clipping. These were sprouted in start-to-mid-Oct. 1 week apart. I feel they should be bigger for their age, but my COB was non-existent then ;-).
(T/H Hi/Lo are not accurate for actual environment... rearranging things :-).)(usually 45%-60% & 70-77F)
COB was installed 5 days after this pic
100W now, going to 250W in 5 days :-)

I like what you are doing but I would let it veg a little longer. You want your baby to fill out the net while in veg. Just a little more patient. Not being critical BUT, you should wait at least 10days after topping to put in flower. And a week before switching to flower when you transplant. You don't want to shock your babies. Hope I helped you some.

Great, I'll check up on her today for some cleanup! This should help clear up some space and get more light to the secondaries.

I will be moving her to the final grow tent sometime over the weekend. Shes been vegging for a month. I'm thinking I'll give it another 2 weeks although it all depends on how she looks in the new space.

I transplanted her into the 2 gallon pot around day 20 of veg. How long do you think until she has roots well enough established to be transplanted to the 5 gallon pot. My goal is to have her transplanted into the large pot and give it at least a week before going 12/12.

Still looking into all the lighting options....Hopefully I will decide in the next week or so.

Thanks, I'll trim the ladies and see when they end up in 2 weeks.

B[/ . Every transplant put stress and delay growing. I'd say you need two weeks to get roots established after transplant into 2g bag. Then transplant into 5g pot wait two weeks before switch. You want the least amount of stress at this time. Give her time to recover then turn her loose.

The 100W DIY Timber Grow Light is a nice start for a COB @$235 for 2 plants. I replicated it using AMD Heatsinks and active cooling. I loved the results (in less than a week) that I bought 2 more CXB3950's and a 250W driver to drive all 4 COBS :weed:

Great info!
As of today, its been vegging in the 2gal pot for two weeks. I'm just waiting for the new tent so I can transplant her into the 5gal pot. I'm hoping the tent will arrive tomorrow. I would still like to top a few more times and set her up to recover and enter 12/12. Looks like my total veg time will be around 1month 3weeks.
