Smells like bullshit to me. Vent it outside after carbon, high up (like out the top of your roof) and grow lavender, rosemary, mint, or any other smelly plant at the entrance to your home and I think not even a cop dog could smell it. Just don't be an idiot and actually think about things before you commit to a location. Moth balls also help stupid amounts. However, having said that; closetgrowth is very right that you can not remove 100% of odor. However, you can vent it and mask it. And I agree, NL is brilliant for lack of smell.

Dude, Dont get me wrong, odor is definately a factor that cant be overlooked,

but the original post just seems a bit... you know... scaremongering...

you might as well lecture the people about the health issues aswell whilst ur at it...

(im all about lightheartedness dude)

I know you mean good, s'all gravy...

You definately got some good info and I can honestly say i didn't even consider the pungency of the strain I chose, definately something i will consider next time, I just aint afraid to abandon ship if it gets too bad, but I only got one small plant way away from anyone and up high... so im all good!

+rep just for all the flak youve taken tho geez!

Peace!

Dude,

Those carbon filters help a great deal.. But, they will not completely remove the smell.

Believe me, I know.

Best thing to do is to start out with a low odor strain like I suggested.
i went all out at beginning and grew ak x diesel the smell was more than carbon filter could manage but with ozone generator as well there was no smell and im in an apartment and had to have windows shut all winter as it was too cold out.
you can kill the smell but it does cost money something alot of growers dont always have as they grow

So if I have 1 and only 1 carbon filter in a closet grow that ISN'T sealed(shutters, that's it). Should I vent the exhaust to my attic OR let it recirculate in my room, ''scrubbing''. Which is more effective at removing the smell?

WTF??

carbon filters do work if your intake is passive and your exaust is active and the exaust exists thought the carbon filter..
I have a simular set-up using Co2 in a sealed tent....This is what I'm working with...I have a 409 windtunnel 6 in-line fan with a odor-sok, (i know, i know...bullshit filter, didnt know until I read this thread! thanks closetgrower) I am about to go purchase either a active air carbon filter or a can 33 or 50 or 66..which one you reccomend??) on the intake side...now I thought and read that the filter was supposed to go on the intake side of the fan...<pulling air through the filter then out the fan/ducting/tent to room or attic.. but that guy above and you says to push it through the filter??:wall:
Also, I will be doing active intake with a 6" booster fan via a backdraft damper...How do you do a passive intake with a backdraft damper?? My tent has those long vents on the bottom, (which I sealed up so Co2 wont escape) which wouldv'e be used for passive, so im confused...
Now my exhaust fan will also have a backdraft damper on it as well as a fan controller.....both fans, intake & exhaust will be on the same timer to cycle on and off when the Co2 cycles on for 15min, four times a day...SOOO, will I have the pressure needed with this kind of set-up?

I will be growing 16-20 AutoAk47, LR2, white dwarfs and Auto AK47 x Auto BB....So I know it will smell to holy hell!!:weed:
If I get...NO, WHEN I get the better carbon filter, [as a matter of fact I am going to get a "SECOND FAN/FILTER SET-UP"], [6" s&p TD-150 inline fan with filter and mount on wall in growroom for extra odor scrubbing AND build 3-4 of those 5 gal buckets with Ona-gel, soil moist and a fan.....saw it in this thread] will that help/increase my percentage of odor masking with 2 of them in the grow room and 2 dwn stairs???:?::?::leaf: I WANT Noooo DAMMMM SMELLLLLL!!!!!! WHEW....YEAH, THIS EXTRA SHIT WILL COST, BUT MY FREEDOM IS PRICELESS!!!!:fire:

They work very well. If you have a sealed room. If you have an intake that turns off when your outtake is out smelly odors will find there way out of the room. I run my filter with a fan 24/7 with a speed control. I have a passive air intake. I have a 20ilb co2 tank and i turn my out-take on and off for 6 hours. That of course is in the middle of the night. 12am to 6am. Since my room is sealed and i dont have an intake, the smell wont leak out and my outake with slowly push air threw the filter due to pressure.
I bought ona and put it in trays hiden arround my house and smeard on the inside of my outtake vent. You cant smell anything no matter what cycle.
I run Purple kush and that is a stinky strain. You cant smell it untill your in the room. Then its like whoa!
You should invest in a charcoal/carbon filter no matter what. Ona works for small shows
???How do you do that??( passive intake with a backdraft blocker/damper) and 27c is what is degrees?

Ditch the intake and get a passive intake with a back draft blocker. so no co2 will leak out.
Make sure you run your filter 24/7 tho. I see alot of rooms with two of them in there. One for when the main outtake shuts off. And one for when the main one shuts off to control the smell in the room. Alot of people have two smaller ones. One that runs 24/7 with co2 stops and one on a thermistat/timer for co2.
Your gonna want to let the heat build up for 5 minutes then pump your co2. Temps are best at 27 for fastest co2 constumption.

TO TRUE m8. My first grow was done with no odor control,(white widow,AMS and big bang among them), what a stink. I had a few knocks at the door from people I knew to tell me the smell was away down the shops,(600yards away). But seriously its definately an issue needing addressd, so I purchased a Secret Jardin DS180 grow tent with a TT extracter fan and carbon filter. I'm looking forward to the results as I'v never used this set up or a grow tent before.

Hey. I am weighting my decision to grow a plant in my closet very carefully. It can get me kicked out of college.
All i want to do is smoke some marijuana to relieve of my stress.

Is the lowryder #1 feminized a smelly plant? I picked it because its short, flowers fast and easy to grow. But does it smell?

well smell should be pretty obvious considering whats growing  . My first grow didn't have any way to filter smell and it stunk up the house and part of the neighborhood:o. Highly recommend pumping hot exhaust into a open space if possible and using an ozone generator on that air to "treat" it cause coming home and smelling your house before you get in it is not a good thing...unless you like broadcasting your business:weed:

dude, why are you risking your future trying to grow a lil plant? are you growing on campus? i would think if you could afford collage, you should be able to afford a bag of good smoke, cuz thats about allyour gonna end up with if you only grow 1 (small) plant. now i aint nothing but a 9 grade drop-out and even i have enough sense to know thats a pretty huge risk your taking for a little (and i mean little) weed. maybe a short course in common sense is in order...just for the record, im damn near 60 yr old and i fucked off my chances of a higer ed. to go to viet nam, so maybe im (was) the dumb ass . just dont blow your future trying to be cool (like growing something that will most likely ruin your chances of a successful carreer,life.....)

sorry closet, you raise a very good point. plus rep for trying to look out for the new guy,id been dead a long time ago if a couple of guys hadnt of schooled me on where i was and what i was in for.fuck the haters...thats why their on the internet.............peace out!

Thanks Man,

Wanted to make it clear that growing mj can make ya, or break ya..

Prison is not cool.. And shit DOES happen.

Grow low odor strains and stay outta trouble.. thats basically what Im trying to get across.

And a green card is not 100% effective.

Start off the right way, ya know :)
