Hi guys,
this is my first grow journal here and my second grow. The first one was 4 x sputnik. Shortly i will put some photo.

My set up:

Dark room II 120x120 (Secret jardin)
Hydroponic system Atamy wilma 4 + 1 passive hydroponic pot
Growing: SunMaster 400W MH 32000 Lumens
Flowering: Sylvania SHP-TS 600W HPS
Centrifugal extractor vents 12.5cm 355m3/h
Reflector: Adjust a wings + Heat Shield (for flowering)
Ballast: Dimmable lumatec 600/400 (SuperLumen)
Nutes: General Hydroponics (flora micro and flora bloom) . I try to use modified lucas formula 4 parts of micro and 3 parts of bloom on vegetative and for flowering 4 bloom and 3 micro.
Root Stimulant: Root juice (BioBizz) 2ml x 1L
Water: I use only ro water because i have a very very bad water that make my ph grow up like a crazy!!!! From 5 to 8 ph in only 2 hours.....

I m developing a monitoring sistem with arduino and cosm (www.cosm.com). At the moment i have 1 ph probe 2 temperature sensor (1 for environment and 1 for water) and 1 humidity probe. I m waiting a nichrome wire buyed some days ago for make my ec probe. Actually for ec i m use Hanna combo HI 98129 (ec and ph).

I m starting with 5 seed in rockwool cube stabilized to 5.5 ph and 300ec (root juice only 1ml x L). I put that in a little box at 22C and 95% humidity. In 2 days all 5 baby are germinated but one of this had some problem (my fault). Unfortunatly i dont have photo of this one.

After germination at 1/1/2013 i put 4 in the atami and the worst in a separated passive idroponic pot.
I m started with all hydrotons stabilized to 6 PH. Maybe next time i will lower to 5.6 5.7 but i have had no time because the new years day's

For the first 3 days i used 400ec water and now i have raise to 750. Ph is stabilized to 6.3...probably tomorror i will lower it but i dont want stress plants then i try to intervene as little as possibile.

And now some pics

What stakes have you got on your feed pipes?
I used to run a wilma system (clay pebbles) and found it hard to hydrate the pebbles as the plants got bigger. In the end I had to bin the stakes that came with it and make my own "halos" up...

Hi sworth,
I cant make a photo right now because i m at work :) But tomorrow i will put it.
i know there are two types of stakes: the black one and the blue one.
I have only the black one than i used it without much problem. After first layer of dried hydrotons (2-4cm) it is all moist.
For next grow i manage to duplicate every line feed but only for choosiness :)

How do u make your own "halos"? I need some inspiration!!!

Here you go

Yeh, one color stake's "flood" the other is a "drip".

Even flood stakes didn't water sufficiently, but 1 of these halos, with holes for flooding sorted it.
It wasn't a massive problem for me, but I was a bit pissed off at Wilma's design dudes...

(Edit) Smallest size clay pebbles would help hugely, the ones no bigger than your pinky fingernail.
I only stopped using this system because I got tired of noisy hydro grows, the systems great once your keyed in to it...

Very interesting!!!!
Surely with halos u have a better distribution of water. This WE i will try to make my own.

My grow room is in bedroom....i try to imagine that i m near a mountain stream :)

Nice thread can't wait to see those thing s blow up Im thinking of switching to all hydro next this run I'm doing 5 soil ones in my 3 x3 tent I want to do 4 in 3 gallon dwc buckets maney 5 gallons.
dis you ever do soil in there before? And did your yield and quality improve? I have one dwc and. Soil plant side by side and the hydro definenetly looks a lot better I think the soil one sucked all the organic mutes out of the soil.

A lot of years ago i started growing in soil but i have had a lot of problem because grow room was far my home, need to be very stealth and very low budget....terrible result!!!!!
Then one year ago when i restarted my grow experience i wanted a good start. I like the fine tuning u can reach with hydro. But u need a lot more time to achive good result. My friends that grow in soil watch plants every 3-4 days without problem....i cant!!!!

I know i m fanatic :weed:

Hey guys,
i have found two little problems

On 2 plants leaves are a little "rolled-up". I cant explain well but can post a photo :)

IMG_20130119_193437_.jpg

And a lower leave on one plant have a lot of yellow spot and feel drie....i have a photo also

IMG_20130119_193314_.jpg

any suggestion?

I see possible under watering problems rising....I found that those Wilma flood stakes were not big enough to drench all the clay pebbles.
If you think this may be the case; Pour a few jugs of nutes from your reservoir over them.

Probabliy that was a Potassium deficiency. Added some flora GRO and today i change water in tank with nutrient for flowering.
I used the lucas formula than i used a litter less than 2mlxL flora Micro and 4mlxL flora Bloom (after 1 or 2 week i will go for full strenght like 1800-1900 uS/cm).

This is the situation now

21 Days (4 days flowering)

IMG_20130122_020759_.jpgIMG_20130122_082706_.jpg

Humidity: 40-50%

18-25C
Water Temp: 19-22C

And this is the layout of my arduino monitoring system.

Graphics.jpg

Ds12b20Mark is the water temp
Ds12b20UnMark is the grow tent temp

I’m glad I found this thread, I’m subbed and along for the ride. I’m interested in your techniques and grow style. I hope everything goes good for you during this grow and the few technicalities that you have at the moment are easy for you to resolve.

Your talking EC 1300, is that ppms, wow that sounds like alot for your small plants, small meaning young, correct me please if I’m wrong.

The arduino project is pretty cool as well. I always wanted to make an automatic watering system that monitors the soil moister of each plant's pot, then opens a solenoid valves bank to add the water from a raised gravity feed reservoir system but I’m new at the code and still learning.

There’s another arduino project going on here at Rollitup.

I like the canopy pics, but my favorites are taken from the side, it shows the size, nood spacing and the height, great grow keep the pictures commin.

Hy curiosity,
thanks for let me know that there is another arduino project here!
At the moment my system is at a very beginning stage. Need to make/buy an ec probe and then i focus on make some automation.

ATTENTION Ec is not TDS (ppm)!!!!!

Ec is Electrical resistivity (also known as resistivity, specific electrical resistance, or volume resistivity) quantifies how strongly a given material opposes the flow of electric current. and is mesurend in us/cm and Total Dissolved Solids (often abbreviated TDS) is a measure of the combined content of all inorganic and organic substances contained in a liquid in: molecular, ionized or micro-granular (colloidal sol) suspended form

cit from:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Total_dissolved_solids
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_Conductivity

But u can convert Ec to TDS with some approximation.

There are 3 different conversion factor:

USA 1000 us/cm = 1 ec = 500 ppm (@0.5)
European 1000 us/cm = 1 ec = 640 ppm (@0.64)
Australian 1000 us/cm = 1 ec = 700 ppm (@0.7)

Then my 1300 ec is like 650 ppm (@0.5).

Enjoy

How are the plants, are things ok now, what was wrong? Was it too hot or was the light too close? And for the other plant with yellow lower leaves must be N deficiency.

Here is a link for you.

And a picture that helps.
