Ok to thin while in flower?

Do you thin during flower stage? My current girls are super bushy (from HST), and I have a lot of overlap despite using yoyos to stretch apart. I've had issues with wpm before and would like to thin my plants as a preventative measure. If it's ok, on what schedule (what week of flower)? Any advice greatly appreciated!!

Thanks! Glad my plants look ok. I'm pretty new at this, it's ok to take whole fan leaves? I've heard something about snipping them in half first and removing a few days later...learning curve:confused:

when I see the need to trim in flower, I remove the whole leaf and stem. I do full removal because the argument I most often hear to NOT prune is that the plant will devote energy to heal the pruned area. This, in turn, takes energy from producing flowers.

That makes sense, thanks!!

All of those leafs are there for a reason, they feed the plant!!!

The flowers do not absorb light and supply the plant with what it needs, that is the purpose of the fan leaf's!!!
What you pour into your soil or add to your rez feeds those leafs not the flowers!!

You do understand that the plant pulls from those big leafs to feed the flowers right??? That would be why they yellow near the end of the flowering cycle!!

If you have a PM issue, get some more fans and move air down low along with reducing humidity.

Plants do not grow without leafs!!! :peace:

I understand the ramifications Butchyboy. My last turn I didn't trim in flower and despite taking great measures I lost 1/2 my crop to wpm. I bleached my room completely and sanitized all equip in between turns, did a hefty trim (removed all mildew) a week before turning from veg, am spraying weekly (neem, sm90) + daily spot spray, plant dr being added to water only days, 2 dehu's running, probiotics, and despite all of this I still found a few spots of wpm:cuss:. Think I've come to the end of this genetic line with these clones (about to switch). Wouldn't normally trim in flower, but feel it's my last resort to prevent losing weight to wpm again...

I'm already taking great measures against wpm, weekly spray + daily spot spray, plant dr added to water only days, 2 dehu's running, probiotics, and despite I still found a few spots of wpm. Think ive come to the end of this genetic line with these clones (about to switch). I lost half my yield to infestation once before, concerned it could happen again!!
that sounds crazy........ do you live on a boat or a submarine or something?

LOL Woody! No, my area is relatively dry compared to most! I was (kindly) given a bunch of what I now believe we're out-gened clones...didn't figure it before making a mom and propagating. I was just starting out and accepted the freebies without thinking about possible issues. They still produce fairly well (avg 1/2 lb per plant), good quality end product when I can keep the mildew at bay. I just fight wpm constantly. My flower humidity is down to 35% with 2 dehu's going, I bleach my room between turns, and am careful not to track anything in.
I'm starting with a fresh strain from a reputable cloner for my next turn, but trying to keep my turns going on schedule in the interim. It's been a battle!! Might be more trouble than it's worth? At least I'm learning a lot...the new strain should be much easier:bigjoint:. #learningcurve

that sounds crazy too...... wtf is an out-gened clone? 35 in flower theres no reason you would have wpm ....... probably residue from all the shit youre spraying on em

I'm a nurse by profession and run a tight clean room...everything is sanitized between uses. I've heard when clones are taken from clones too many times the plants have increased susceptibility to problems. I was advised by a veteran grower of 30 years who came to see my operation that this is likely the problem, after he looked at everything I'm doing. I do keep my temps high because I have a co2 burner, that may be the next thing to go so I can lower my temps....that's likeky contributing too. Trust me, it's much worse without the spray!! Highly frustrating and time consuming:fire:

I would love to hear your advice!! I feel like I've tried everything...
I'v'e got rid of PM easily with no PM return using 1 part milk
to 9 parts water in a sprayer. Even the buds can be sprayed as long as
you give them time to dry out. Morning spray is good that way they have
time to dry throughout the day. There are no ill effects to using milk to rid pm and it works perfect every time.
There are countless growers here that will verify this method.

This is a myth no doubt. The only increased susceptibility to problems comes from the grower not the clones. Some
growers have no idea what their doing thus they have probs imo.
I am a newer grower (this is only my 4th turn), and I have several veteran growers as mentors. I work hard and spend 1-2 hours a day with my 9 flower plants and 9 veg plants, plus I put in longer days 1-2x per week. If you have helpful advice I would love to hear it. Being judgmental and deciding I must just suck as a grower is really not helpful at all, especially when I'm already frustrated and have tried every suggestion my mentors have given. There is such a thing as getting poor quality clones, I think everyone would agree on that, and it seems to be the case here. There's a reason I'm here asking for advice, judgment isn't appreciated or warranted. What exactly could I be doing wrong to "cause" an ongoing infestation?

You don't suck as a new grower when you are learning and I was judging others who feed you BS.
For new growers and others, RIU is a Godsend and by far the best place to learn.
