I have a 30x magnification jewellers loupe and under that clear trichs look, well, clear, milky appear white and Amber have the same shine to them as clear but funnily enough look a little Amber!
Not sure if it's the same with autos but when all my trichs r cloudy with one or two clear or Amber i start the two weeks of water only,it cleanses ur plant of nutes and rinses out the soil for if u want to use it again, some say u shouldn't,I say it's a weed ur growing!lol

Is it too late in the season to start growing an auto from seed outside? I read that you can grow into November but I want to make sure before I go and buy seeds. I live in the bay area of California.
You should be totally fine popping an autoflower seed in my opinion... Germ it in July and pull it in september. Light won't be a problem, but I'm not sure what your temps are like. If it's chilly germinate it inside and let it veg a bit. 50 watts of blue cfl is enough to get an auto going..

Yea, check out Royal Queen Seeds Northern Light Auto.. Great plant. I had another auto that wasn't so hot.. Only grew 8 inches tall and the smoke is awful. I'm jealous. I wish I could grow outdoors.

One thought though is to maybe put the plant in a pot and bury the pot to keep the heat off of the roots.

Hopefully I coax some of you pros back for another question.

What should the leaves look like to indicate a plant is finished? I am getting yellowing fan leaves which I see as a positive or at least natural sign, but what should the sugar leaves be doing? I remember something about them curling up or inward?

Yellow leaves just means that they are using up all the nutrients it can, so it can grow the biggest bud possible, in hopes that it will get pollinated by a male plant.. lol For us, however it is good because when a plant are flushed, or starved, it uses up all, or majority of the nutrients in the leaves. providing us with a nice clean smoke. The leaves should turn ash white when smoked. Black ash means that there are still nutrients or contaminants that the plant didn't use.

Not so worried about temps as I was worried about it being to late in the season to start an auto. I've just never grown one so I wasn't sure :) Thanks for all the info though guys

You mean what is it with people like me who feed until they chop??

Its called good yields and quality herb and guess who's bud also burns to a white ash and doesn't snap crackle or pop. Its called drying properly and curing well.

Flushing for 2 weeks does nothing more than starve a plant at a critical time causing undue stress and in extreme cases causes reverse osmosis in the rootzone.

If your plant is healthy from start to finish there is no need to flush.

Everyone should read this and educate themselves.

Obviously the one that you grow for a longer period of time "mate"

That's not even a controlled test for it.

The control would have been to keep your harvest date the same on both "mate"
