popular science gives omega garden the nod

Picked up this months (Sept) issue of popular science and the Omega Garden had a bit of the cover and a significant part of the centerfold `giant pullout` poster. Hard to beat press like that. They mention the name of the company and talk about the tech a little bit and from the looks of the graphics it will likely be incorporated into the virtual Future City thing that popsci has on their site. VERY COOL. Something that has been adopted first in the underground growing world hitting main stream.

What is the diameter of the cylinder? The dimensions of these things look like the max plant height is less than 24". I don't know of many strains that short, but I'm sure someone has 'em. Have they grown tomatoes on these things?

it looks like you may be eating the spam grown in the vertical farm as well as fruits and veggies from an omega carousel. maybe even smoking meds grown by government approved operations in one hopeful future sustainable world

Good thing we can all grow bud at home in buckets with dirt ;) These things look like a maintenence nightmare. The biggest one is $9K holy crap.

a cylinder rotating at one revolution per hour is hardly a maintenance nightmare

good thing breathing is involuntary and you can buy food at the store

really? have you ever built or fixed something that heavy? The motor is big dude... what happens when it wears out... better have a spare in stock and some monitoring... if that thing stops spinning your SOL.

motor is about the size of your fist, and ya it is good to have a spare in case you need one. you can turn it by hand if you needed to till you got another if it did go out on you

Sweet, that big stacked one looks like a great way to grow crops after like a nuclear winter or something. Also the efficiency is amazing on those things, look at the low KWH usage.

finished ??????

how do your one footers yield? and what does the root ball look like

i want pics
you can grow em taller but you are expanding into a diminishing diameter so there is a sweet spot and if you grow them much larger you can yield less

depends how many you grow for yields of individual plants

uses 3 in cubes for roots

no growing in the summer for me so no current pics
