Pot type: hempy or bottom drain

Just made a mix of

2/5 long fiber coco
2/5 worm castings
1/5 hydroton
and
2 inch layer of river rocks at the bottom

The containers are about 5-7 gallons

Should I put the holes in the bottom of the pot or 2in on the side like a hempy?

I'm using these for a outside grow in the summer. The average temps will be in the 100f. I was thinking having a small amount of water in the bottom would be helpful.
