Thanks, Morph. It's been 3 and half months of fun. Stress but fun. Can't wait to see how they smoke. The taller one still doesn't have as strong a smell as the shorter one, which has that nice mary jane pungent smell.

Thanks Kaz and Midg for the feedback. I checked on the trichs yesterday during lunch and there are very few clear ones now. Most are either cloudy or light amber, so I am estimating no later than this weekend to harvest. I will check the trichs again this afternoon, so I should have a much better idea. This morning they looked awesome when I took them out. The buds are very plump now with resin. The main cola on the taller one is huge and is now somewhere between the size of a golf ball and a tennis ball. There are also about 5 smaller golf ball size colas on the other stems. The main stem on the smaller plant is covered with buds and although they aren't as big as the buds on the taller plant, they are very smelly, so I am hoping this plant has a nice kick to it when we smoke it. I am toying with the idea of using the taller plant to make hash, as it doesn't have that killer smell and it has endured the worse of the spider mite infestation. I am not seeing as many trichs on the taller plant than the smaller one when I examine under the 'scope. I attribute this to the pests. I had to spray it again yesterday. Fucking spider mites....

Hey Buddy! I bet you cant wait to taste some.
I didnt read the entire thread but, was wondering about your spraying the plants and all, this may be a good candidate for water curing?
Peace

VM, I debated seriously how I was going to deal with the infestation. I researched this carefully and decided against using a miticide this late in the grow. The miticide would have killed the pests for sure but I didn't want to contaminate the buds this close to harvest, so I settled on an organic insecticidal soap that is safe to use right up until harvest. The soap does the job on the living mites but doesn't kill the eggs, hence they reappeared after the eggs I missed ealier hatched. I don't know how it will smoke but the soap smell usually subsides after about 24 hours. This morning, I could barely detect the soap smell on the plant. Maybe I will clip a smaller bud from the taller plant this afternoon and do a quick dry, just to see how it smokes. I haven't wanted to do this because I am really not in a rush and would like to maximize the potency and yield. If it smokes like crap, and the high is weak, I will make ice-hash with it.

Trust me, I want to harvest it but after waiting this long and overcomming so much, to wait the extra couple of days is no big deal to me. If the trichs look ready when I check them after work, I may very well cut them this evening. With the weekend only 3 days away, if I can, I may just wait until Saturday and harvest. I will take and post lots of pics. I already have the scale. It isn't the digital variety but more for dieting but ways up to 16 oz, so that's sufficient for me. Now my next grow, when I yield a pound a plant, I'll have to upgrade the scale. ;-) (I wish).

Checked the trichs yesterday evening and there's been little or no change, so their execution has been delayed for at least another day. I am thinking since we are almost to the weekend already, just waiting until Saturday. I'll check trichs again tonight and depending on the results, I'll put them outside tomorrow (Fri) morning again for 12 hours and then leave them under 24 hours of darkness and harvest Saturday evening.

BTW, no sign of bugs and no smell of soap.

Thanks, Perk.

Well, I killed the taller one on Saturday. I checked the trichs and even though only about 25% were amber, I felt I needed to. Yes, the bugs were making a reappearance and I just figured better to cut my losses. I have serious doubts as to the potency of this plant, though. It's had a lot fewer trichs than the other and no pot smell at all. Very peculiar. Anyway, I harvested 3 1/2 oz wet and the main cola alone was 1 oz (see the attached harvest pics). So I am expecting a little under 1 oz dry. Not much but given the rough life they've had, not surprising.

I took some of the smaller immature buds and did a rapid dry in the oven and left for 24 hours. The Mrs and I smoked those. There was no pot smell at all and the taste was very weird - almost peach. I expected a very harsh smoke (chlorophyll) but it was extremely smooth. The wife had taken some bong hits just before smoking the rapid dry buds and she couldn't tell if it made her high. I took about 4 hits and my immediate impression was that it got me high but quickly faded about 20 mins later. It could be my mind playing tricks, though, not sure. I have started wondering if maybe this was a hemp plant and lacks the THC in the buds? Maybe this was just filler for the bag weed I got the seeds from? I am still drying the rest of the plant using traditional methods (hanging in dark closet).

The smaller plant gained a reprieve and is still alive. I watered on Saturday with plain water. The plant is still pumping out trichs - I checked last night and most still were either clear or clouding, with a few light amber here and there. The plant has a wicked smell, though and I am optimistic the smoke with pack a wallop. I plan in checking the trichs again tonight.

Comments welcome.

OK....update time, if anyone is still following on. I manicured the buds last night from the taller tree and I was shocked to find that one of the buds was seeded! I have no idea how that happened. Maybe being outdoors some pollen blew on it or maybe it's a hermie? I don't know. Anyways, I am really mystified by this plant - the bud, like the plant itself, does not have a cannabis smell at all. It smells like your regular lawn grass, in fact. It definitely LOOKS like marijane but doesn't have the smell. Anyway, they are curing but I am certainly going to make some hash or hash oil with it this weekend. I'll throw in some crappy weed buds we have sitting around in case of emergency. I'll try and post pics and an update when I do.

I haven't chopped the smaller plant yet. It's still plugging along and stinking up the place. Each time I check the trichs, it seems the plant has pumped out more. The buds are covered with cystals. Most are still clear, though. This surprised me, as I was expecting mostly clouding and amber. I am hoping sometime this weekend to harvest but I'm not in a big rush, after waiting all this time. I haven't given any ferts, nutes or molasses in over a week. I flushed it last Thursday and I am thinking I may flush again. I am pinning my hopes now on this plant. It looks good and it smells wicked. Hopefully, it will pack a punch when we smoke it. I'll post an update on Monday.

Glad to hear about the progress hearmenow.

From my understsanding the taste and the high are directly affected by the curing.
I have been led to believe that a plant that smells like lawn when cut will loose that smell and the high will get more intense as it cures.

How long did you flower again?
I was thinking you said like 8 or nine weeks.

Nice of you to speak up for Roseman.
I take it he pm'd you also.

Sounds like the smaller plant is really going to be a good one.

Good luck with the harvest.

Thanks, mids. Yes, I responded to that grass smell thread with the same info on smell. I read the same things. Now I may test smoke a bud this weekend to see if there's any kick to it before I make hash. If they pack a punch, maybe I'll just keep them for smoke instead.

I put the girls into flower on March 28 (a Weds)and harvested on May 26th (a Sat). That's 59 days total. The smaller one is on day 65.

When you say you think it could be a hermie due to the seeds in the bud, I'm not sure I understand your logic...

hmn, just read up on the whole grow, and i must say, good job for a first time flowering these beauties... and its a combination of daylight and cfls when needed?

i just wanted to wish you the best with the rest of the growing of the shorter plant, it sounds like a skunk!

and to ganz, with only two female plants, a hermie would be a good explanation of where the seeds came from (sometimes the male pollen sacks can be quite hard to spot on a heavily femanine hermie)

or maybe, somebody else is growing around you, and isn't taking care to get rid of males... it happens

Thanks, Lumb. Well explained.

Well, I harvested the shorter one this Saturday. The experience was so different for this one than the taller one. This plant was very pungent. In fact, when I had it in a shut closet, with the door to the room shut, you could still smell it in the hall in front of the room. The plant was all sticky and covered with cystals. I harvested the main cola and several of the other colas. I did leave several smaller buds to continue maturing. I'll let those flower another few days. So far, I harvested roughly 3.5 oz wet. Remember the other taller plant gave a little bit more wet. But the buds on this plant are nice and thick and compact. I have the harvested buds hanging upside down in the dark in our closet and it makes the who room reek. Smelly good.....

I have the buds of the taller plant curing and I will probably take a test smoke later this week to see if the potency and taste has improved. If they haven't, I plan on making hash with it. They still have the smell of hay and they've been curing for about 4 days.

Pics attached. Comment welcomed.

Quick update - the buds on the smaller plant have now been drying for 3 days. The smell is killer! It has that dank wicked smell. If it smokes ANYTHING like it smells, it's going to be sick. On the other hand, the buds from the taller plant have been curing for 5 days and still no weed smell. They still smell like hay. And not like "heyyyyyyy, dude, this shit is the bomb"...more like the hay horses eat.

FYI, I got my Nirvana seeds yesterday and I'm already planning my next grow.
