almost done with my first run with a (600) quantum and not really happy with it so far.It seemed to veg real well but flowering it didnt cut it.had WAYY better luck with my 10 year old 400 hps for years. At first ran a vented hood but after 7th week it looked like i was flowering with cfls. Now i have a open hood and it helped a little.I used fox farms sys like always. The only thing thats new in my room is that ballast.my cuttings are the same, temps are the same.nutes are the same.its really a bummer cause i thought i was upgrading when i got that quantum but should have just used my 400 it grown HUGE buds for years and this is the first time that i wont have a harv......thanks quantum.can i have my money bac?

Well even though this is not my thread I would like to say thank you to all that had input into this thread. I have been contemplating on the Lumatek or Quantum ballast for a few months now and have decided to go with the Lumatek brand ballast. I liked the dimmable opion on the Quantum ballast but i believe if it was as efficient as they claim it would not need that noisy fan at all. The Lumatek brand is also a digital ballast and doesn't use a fan and also has a 5 year warrantee. You can't beat that! Getting mine off of ebay, Check it out Item Number # 360154375217. It a whole kit don't think you can beat that. Thanks Again ~ Black SS:joint:

thanks for the use of the post Black SS. I am glad it helped you. I on the other hand opted for the quantum 600 kit that I found on ebay. I went this route because it is dimmable and I feel it will suit my needs in my area better being able to adjust it. I just hope its a quality piece. the fan thing dont really bother me unless it gets like retarded loud, but I have seen many old school car stereo amps with little internal fans that lasted a long time. keep on with the comments or experience everyone. maybe I should start a poll to see who runs what and how long its been running reliable. who knows there is probably already one, if someone knows of one let us know or post a link if possible.

I started out with a lumatek 400, and if my room temp went 70 or above i needed a fan blowing on the ballast or it would trip the internal breaker. then i bought a 1000 with a internal fan and have had no problems.

ok soo so now with 4 of these things there still loud as fuck..but i do like that dimmable ballast idea..cu i can run 400 watt hm bulb to 300 watts with one of the ballast..its good to have ateast one of these in your invetory soo you can always have that option if u need a mh real quick to vegger fast some clones...

I was wondering about that. so your saying if you run it on the 300 setting you can use a 400w bulb without hurting the ballast? if you do that does the ballast only put out 50% of the 400 then or how does that work?

i needed a quick veg build but no mh ballast..soo iwent to lowes..bought a 400 watt mh bulb and i am using it with the quantum...all i do is bring down the power to 300 watts..so yes...that 400 watt bulb is buring at 300 watts..havent tryed it at the 450 seting as im sure it maywork but i need the bulb so thts fine..it works on the same idea of dimming down the original 600 but now im using a 400 with a 300 power source...

u have to use only the 600w hps bulb or the conversion mh bulb.u dont want to put a 400w in that.

at least thats what the guys at the hydro shop said that i got it from.i was gunna do the same thing

yeah, I was told the same thing when I called and asked quantum. they said it will fire the 400w but it will cause premature failure to the unit. on another note I am pretty happy with mine so far, it does get pretty hot though. the only thing I really dont like is it says made in china right on it. oh well its just like everything else us americans buy. everything seems to be made there.

ok so i have had the quantums running for 6 weeks now and they rock, the only down side is the fan...it sounds like a little jet engine, but the grow has its own room so its not so bad, the dimming part is cool, i set the 600 to 50% when i first started and tossed in a 250 mh bulb, now that they are big im using the 600 hps at full power, the 2 cords are cool, if you want to use 220 all you do is swap cords, overall its a good ballast... i just hope it lasts

I've been running the quantum ballast for about 6 months now and I love it. For all you guys complaining about the fan noise, yall must have some sensative ass hearing because mine is as quiet as can be. With all the other fans running in a grow room at any given time, surely you can't be complaining about the tiny fan on the ballast. With a 6" can fan, 2 muffin fans, and one 9" fan inside my closet, the fan on the ballast is the last thing I ever hear. Great ballast so far.

I wonder about lumen counts. Wish I could test which had more. I run a lumatek 400 and a 600 and am happy. The 30 percent that the digi brings as compared to a mag blew my mind, did the Q difference astound you? I am trying to get over buyers remorser.

I have the Quantum 600 watter and I love it. I'm using a Hortilux Super HPS bulb with it. I'm actually getting ready to order a 1000 watt within a couple weeks and I'm definitely getting another Quantum.

the only digital ballasts i have used is htgsupply's ballasts but i used there first ones they made which didn't have fans, the new ones do so i'm not sure about the loudness or quality of those, but the first ones were great i had a 400watt never even got warm started up and ran perfect every time and the best price by far out of any other brand the only thing missing is a super warranty but it pays for itself its so cheap. but as far as the quantums go i have done alot of research and they sound great. i went to my local hydro store where they had one operating and the only thing they said was using different wattages in the bulbs could either depreciate there lumen count or burn the bulb out faster because HID bulbs arn't meant to do that. above all this ballast is ahead of its time. i think of security purposed with this ballast cause the different use in electricity can deture police and judges from possibly getting warrants and of course using them on clones and vegging they dont need all that light so why use it or why by 2 or more different bulbs? i think lumatek is the best way to go but this ballast is the new standard and is the next great step in HID lighting, its time will come.
