Recrystallization to remove contaminations?

So I have a few contaminations in my evap dishes. Some dust/animal hair and I also manged to suck up small amounts of 'black sludge'. Would recrystallization with heptane result in a pure form of spice?

Yes, filter it while it's hot to help pull out the hair and other particulates then do the crystallization as normal.

Cool, would a simple wire mesh colander and coffee filters be sufficient?

That'll work just fine.
