A friend of a friend is selling this:

Its 200lbs

Fire retardant for 45 mins @ 1400F

Electronic keypad lock

Internal dimensions: 22x17x15 (height x width x depth)

He wants $200usd for it. Is that reasonable, or should I offer less? Should I get it?

it looks good to me but I don't know anything about safes or what they should cost

Try looking around first...get an idea of what that safe should cost you.

I dunno about buying a safe from a friend....unless you trust them with valuable information. Just the act of buying a safe can alert people to your situation.

Personally, i would want to get a long-gun safe. Capable of holding a few hunting rifles, handgun or two, ammo, and maybe an extra cubic feet or two for other things.

Based on looking around....It seems like alot of used safes are like...$1 per pound. Thats just what ive noticed.

exactly spot on about buying it from a friend.
The world is crazy now.
i know people who work with safe installers.that when they install the safe they call up the hounds and let them know"dude has a safe he must have some money or drugs lets get him" and the story continues.
So if you are buying from the friend make sure you trust him and see if you can reset the passcode so he cant get in it.

I don't know the dude personally.. and I'm assuming you can reset/make a code easially.

I'm not puttin crazy shit in there.. just a volcano, gold items, and some small amounts of cash/various irreplacable items

Ever think you got 60 stashed, only to find you got 40? Well I want a safe to remove all doubt.. I want a truly secure place to put things

I have shopped around, this seems to be the most reasonable deal.. I find combo safes for 180 with like half the storage capacity

Its not like I need something that could stop a drill..the items aren't THAT valuable, I just need something better than unlocked drawers and a spot under my mattress you dig?

winchester safes are quality.200 dollars for that size safe in new condition looks about right to me.
but you should still shop around to see if you can get a better deal elsewhere.

I have looked on CL off and on for a while.. this one appears to be the perfect size.. and a good price, and a keypad. I wanted to get some opinions of my friends here before I dropped $200 and haul a 200lb safe

Id offer 175. Nice safe my friend has one and for nearly same reason as you.....you can change the combination to what ever..........as far as buying from someone just say its for your mother in law........let her get robbed and you have a nice safe.

It looks like a decent safe. Anytime I've bought a safe, I've made sure a thief couldn't carry it out of my house. If you don't intend on fastening it to your floor, I'd get the heaviest safe you can afford (IMHO). I've had a few friends whose houses were burgled (i fucking love that word haha) and the thieves just carried the safe out of the house.

That's a good idea. Its 200lbs though! Again, nothing will be valuable enough to orchistrate a robbery to remove the safe and then drill into it or some shit. I don't hook it up or anything.

It would be picked up, the guy won't even know I'm friends with his friend. Nor will he know where I live.

It's a legit safe, I'd buy it.
It's electronically locked, so no keyhole.. No worrying about picking.

The only way to bypass that safe would be to drill through the front faceplate to reveal the mechanism, and then picking it from the inside... or you could just try and brute force it open.... both of which will take for fucking ever

If you are worried about fire safety then get it, but if you don't worry about fire then you can get much more safe for the money. I bought a gun safe that can store 10 rifles and has a lock box inside the safe too for 250 bucks.

Whatever you do bolt that thing down or it's worthless....Good luck JR

I'll have irreplaceable items in there.. so yeah fire safety is good

I'm not trying to low ball the dude, I think I will offer him 180?
