Scotch's lil Shindig- PG180's- Spec 100's, why not?

Well while I am still deciding on my medicinal Indica to snag up in my next order of seeds, I thought I would post my most recent lil tykes.

Seems like every body is either wrapping up runs or firing up new ones so it was a bit too ironic to not post a lil somethin somethin.

Kiddo's popped on January 4th, two days after they were put into cubes and starter tote. Tangerine Dream, curious what pheno's these two are going to be.

Ive recently found out the hard way that it is a terrible idea to fire up an unfamiliar strain that may be completely fucking out of control with unstable genetics and SEVERAL different phenos. With all of this comes different nute regimes...well fuck me..

Sativa Dom.
-Loved Cal/Mag, to the point I was running 7ml/gal and she was eating up every second of it. Jesus H. Mainly loved the Calcium.
-Had maybe 1.5ml/gal of Gro solution as it didn't want a whole lot anyways, then Botanicare's Cal/Mag+ has quite a bit of N in it as well.

Indica Dom.
-Exact fucking opposite..
-Now running with 2ml/gal of Cal/Mag and she has simply exploded
-Then running 2.5ml/gal of Gro

Anyways, while I was fighting those fuckin things- threw my last 2 seeds in a little tupperwear container (paper towel trick, never failed) and took some clones from the big uglies to kindve recap and start over without giving up on the others- still troubleshooting and building seperate containers.

Im using a 5 x 10' room that used to be a bathroom in my garage. In this I have two 33x17x72" Storage Cabinets that I have DIY'd into my grow cabinets, in previous grows the rectangular shape fit my needs ideally; now, it lets me fit everything in this room- I will be extending down into my cellar some time down the road once I determine how to quiet down my only access point to it... loud as metal door. sweeeet...

I really love the consistency throughout my setup, same dimensions, same cfm, same totes. Familiarize myself with everything that much quicker, slightly OCD about the tidiness and look of things. The consistency was a major factor in determining what to run in-

3.905 square feet- completely SCROGGED, the screen is a very tight fit, there will be no light to the lower portion of the canopy,

Though I have thought about putting some of my extra panels in the recessed areas of the cabinet walls and doing a mini-BOG; but I dont think space provides adequate results for such a setup right now.


^^^This is where and how I will be scrogging my cabinet, pride and joy- right 'mere.

Ill be running RO'd water, with a little bit of Botanicare's Cal/Mag+ when needed and I will be running Dyna Gro, maybe Bloom depending on how things flow. I also have a Continuous Hanna Meter and pen I use, both on a .7 CF, pen is adjustable- thank god. Found the Continuous on a steal and luckily figured out how to adjust my pen. Calibrated both on November 8th, and have not had an issue since. I use the PH Drops regularly to double check accuracy-OCD- and use the pen to check the meter and so on.





Now for the acutal project:

:Seeds and Clones Chamber:
-33x17 and adjustable height from 36-12" (in foot increments- I believe.)
-x1 Aerocool Shark 120mm (70cfm) intake, adjustable power supply wired up.
-x2 Aerocool Shark 140mm (90cfm) exhausts, adjustable as well. (was in the process of finding the best comp fans, and found a bad as fuck 103 cfm ball bearing fan ill be using for my curing box, quite stoked- going to order a few more if it works out.
-x8 two-bulb T5 fixtures-14w bulbs- use 6500 and 2700k bulbs when needed- I like the amount of adjustable light I have in this chamber as while I am scrogging in the VEG chamber I will need somewhere to house my Mother's, and still have some room to have a clone kit runnin.





:Veg Chamber:
-33x17, usually set to 4' or so.
-x1 Aerocool Shark (90cfm) exhaust with passive rectangular intake, need to get some window screen put over before spring for pests..
-x2 Hydroponic Huts' Pro Grow 180's- one 2w, one 3w model- it's interesting to see the difference in spectrum when they are next to each other. The 2w model almost a pure white Veg mode. O that's right, I am running this a little different.

This is my most recent adjustment to the cab's, I used plumbers tape and took off those lanky ass cables that HH use to hang their lights- I could not stand these things, I lost like 8" of precious head room just to hang it! Fuck no! Now.. theyre mounted with a slight angle that I think will help with more direct light instead of it bouncing off the material. (dono what len's, if any HH runs, but Im just using general common sense and angling them inward)



:The Kids:



-running on straight RO for now, I am not going to add a single thing till they ask for it throughout this grow; I have always had troubles, this time I am not throwing a single thing in there that I do not need to.

O, and Dawg- Went to my handy dandy grow shop, they did not have aquashield, hygrozyme, NOTHIN. So I drove down to another about an hour away- and theyre closed on sundays. SWEET! So at some point Im going to start brewing my own Microbe Tea.

RH is a little low but I have not found a steal on a solid Humidifier quite yet and patience is a virtue.

Well, hopefully we can all keep up with each other and do this. I am willing to admit; I am not going to run this perfect by any means- and many of you have put in so much input that you deserve a form of Stock in my grows- So I welcome all of you with open arms! Let's do this shindig!

:Watts per Square Feet:

I live by this, may not need to-but it gives me a basis to follow throughout building different grows when it comes to purchasing lights and coverage.

I have seen many different variations of this but found one that has generally stuck with me; thought this would be a good time to explain why I have 2 PG's at less than half actual draw-

(# of lights/total square feet) x wattage used= WPSF.

Simple, seems legitimate, gives me #'s. yayy..

3.905 sq ft

Pro Grow 180's draw ~146 (including fans) on full spectrum
Veg- 77 actual watts

Scenario's
-one pro grow-veg- 19.718
-one pro grow-full- 37.387
-two pro grow full- 74.775
-two pro grow veg- 39.42 watts per sq feet.

The last option is obviously right where i am shooting, and full mode for vigorous growth later.

My flowering Cabinet will be housing x2 Spectra 100's, actual draw is 146w as well, heh this is just dumb luck consistency right here..

-x2 146w Spectra's in 3.905 gives me my 74.775.. hell, yes.

EDIT: Since obviously I'm an LED kindve guy- wpsf is translated a little differently. I generally shoot for 35-40 for good veg but when looking for density with quality and possible CO2 down the rode (always a worthy investment), 60-70 was my flowering wpsf goal, of straight PAR..hehe

Moving right along already working on their tight lil node's... I love led's..



Now my clones... are a saaad sad sight, and would love some input on them. I MUST be missing something, this is the second not so good looking attempt at cloning I have made; not quite giving up on these, but they dont look good.. They are just at 4 days since cut and dipped. Here's one to give an idea; would love input on what little things do you do to "guarantee" your success in cloning?

First glance at your clones I can say a few things that could be improved.

Strip of the growth that's all over it before taking the clone. Leave it like a lollypop, as well as the cut on the bottom of the clone does not look like a 45 degree angle it looks as though you simply scraped off the cambium layer and possibly a bit too much at that.

My recommendation is this;

Source your clone from the bottom of the plant. Before you take it, remove the foliage that is sprouting on it except for the top shoots. More leaves means more work for the clone to do as it will try to keep them alive as well as try to root. Slowing down and possibly stalling the process completely.

Once you are ready to take the clone, get a cup of water. Cut your clone at the base if you like. In my experience shorter clones sprout faster but have a higher chance of just not making it than longer clones.

Ok, so it's chilling in the water. Grab your razor, make six cuts around the base of the stem about 3/4 of an inch in length and then a 45 degree cut at the very bottom. Dip it in your cloning solution.

Gel works best for water, powder for soil/solid medium.

Tada, you won't fail with this.

Nice and clean setup/love it...........I would run the panels on full spec/ really don't like those blue dominant veg modes, unless you want to keep them short and stunted

The first TD Run is looking pretty rough again, starting to get my fucking Calcium spots and new growth is yellow, almost a white in matured areas.

I tossed the clones as well, after hearing how many more cuts Psycho has been using- I feel I could have done things better than my last attempts. I will be taking some more once I seem to have squared away the deficiencies..

Thank you for all the good words about the rig, put a lot of time into designing and building this lil giddup- but, never settle and always strive to achieve more!

Come to find out it is a very unstable strain with a "finicky" personality and demands-

Hopefully the outcome will outweigh the hassle- I am not concerned about yield whatsoever, I am all about the cure, taste, and quality of the bud.

I think I have finally made up my mind; for now..

I am a Sativa loving Ichabod Crane myself and needed a heavy hitting Indica for my father's insomnia and my appetite and anxiety.

So I ended up narrowing it down...more like limiting myself.. to four for now. I like the idea of feminized seeds; but hate the fact that they get a "slow start" from the gate, not to mention I want to be able to backcross, and create my own hybrids of favorite's down the road, AND I don't want to have to drop the dime for more seeds of a strain that I could have produced my own for half the price.. which then allows me to really delve into the pheno's... love this aspect.

I would really love to be able to breed in a large area, for a living-or hobby. Christ... I couldn't imagine.

I ordered 2 of the 4 about 10 minutes ago, wanted to break it up into different orders for $ on the bank statement, I already had to call and allow them to use my card in the UK.. ugh. Told em there was a steal on a Dyson I saw lol.

SLH + LED = Trich Heaven. Seriously. I've got some SLH curing I just finished and I'm finishing up some Black Widow now and I'm looking at it getting covered and it hasn't touched SLH country yet, but it might . Oh and thanks for reminding me that I wanted to take two SLH clones today .

I am so fucking excited for this one!!

Originally the strain I was most excited for was Kali Mist- but since I have found SLH I have even considered just running it instead, good to hear it rocks LEDs.

:Little update for everybody:

Tried running both PG180's at Full Spectrum before I had went to bed last night, ran for about 2 hours and it had reached the mid 80's- so I may have to install another 90cfm Aeroshark fan this weekend, though work has scheduled us for Saturday, so we'll see. Till then I decided to switch it up and run one on veg (the more blue than white), and one on flower (the right, strictly red led's on). This one's Psuagro's suggestion and credit goes to him.

Im on my iPad and forgot that I cannot upload pictures from here, so once I finish this out I will swap and post some.

I seem to have a little bit of burn- either from nutes (thinking when I ph adjusted it may have came in contact?), or the whole 2 hours of slight heat stress, though I have found out the hard way..

Tangerine Dream is whiney bitch, very sensitive, with little play room without issues.. asylum worthy. So, I don't rule either of those out.

Now, I have a question about the DWC part of this whole shindig...

I have battled some Cal/Mag issues since I fired up my first TD seed, before that I ran bagseeds under a 400w MH-perfectly, I use RO'd water with 10-14ppm, so I have always known to use Cal/Mag to supplement, give some buffer, etc.

Recently I have been told to dilute my RO with 1/4 strength of my well water, to give myself roughly 150ppm. Makes sense... just don't know what minerals I am placing in there.

Then I have been told something like Mineral Matrix would be a good alternative to Cal/Mag as it has a wider variety nutes and minerals.

Now... which of these would all of you reccomend? I would love to hear what others are thinking, doing, and have to say.

I am open to the idea to mixing up well/RO water- but HATE the idea of not knowing what's in there, would love to be able to break down nute-for-nute what a plant needs once I get settled. I am mainly interested what ppl think of this... or what a better alternative with less problems would be?

Less problems are what we're going for here... and hell, I may be going about this wrong; maybe it's the genetics and once I get the new strains rolling they thrive with the usual mix of things (150ppm of Cal/Mag basis). Idk, Ive been contemplating this for about a week now and time is running out as I type.

^^^yeah I'd say Cal def.....maybe use mineral water??? instead of untested well-water(I would just keep using 100% RO w additives). I'ts absolutely necessary to add cal/mag in RO water.
Just buy a bottle of cal/mag and be done with it...

Thanks Psuagro- I have used Cal/Mag since I have fist started supplying myself (started with bottled water before the RO system), these kids... Good old' Tangerine Dream.. Just know exactly how much they want.

Didnt know if anyone has used anything besides CalMag or if it is THE cornerstone I need to stick with. I will probably start dosing them tonight (2 weeks old tomorrow) so its just about right.
