Scotch's lil Shindig- PG180's- Spec 100's, why not?

My only second thoughts are:

1. I have always tried to run multiple panels.. for angle's, spretral mix

2.90* len's...only. :/ puts me at unease as I feel this was part of GLH's problems, hense the SS400's minimum 18" recommendations.. would love to get it to 14".... but 5w diodes... fuck. lol

3.Heat. Period.

Area 51 is still tapping me on the shoulder.. but I really like the idea of replaceable UVB bulbs on the fixture.

4. 5w diodes, I have not read into as heavily as I probably should have, but knowing they are single 5w dies, makes me feel much more comfortable.

Some input would be pretty cool...

I have been browsing all morning.. Area 51 has cut their price's back, and "only have" the AR-90 left.. which is what I am looking at.

-I could get two of these for 600, not mentioning promo code.

-Or I could get the SS400w, for 629, and do the testimonial.

-Or, I could wait it out, see what Area 51 has to offer for 2013- and possibly miss the GFP opportunity..

The only thing I can say is that AREA 51 do not offer discount for testimonial because they dont need testimonial :eyesmoke: enough of us have used them with success!!

by the way if anyone has a link to a great grow with the SS400 ... I would like to see what kind of buds people are growing with them... chheers

You can always add UVB. I just got two ReptiSun 38 watt T8s for pretty cheap. Plus you should see how far away those UVBs need to be to be effective. You may find they need to be closer to the plant than you want your panel to be. Check it out.

Tough call but I would do my best to wait till Area51 shows their new design. CLW may have something new too.

^^^couple threads on SS400's

I am curious of the Repile bulbs,..,. I didn't know if they were driven differently than other T8 bulbs- meaning specific fixtures?

I would love to mount t5 or t8 fixtures in the recessed portions of my cabinets for a little extra depth, along with UVB... would be fantastic... that was the big thing for me on the Solarstorms, as I have little knowledge of 5w diodes.

It's a tough call between the two Scotch.......... Wait it out and see what Area 51 comes up with; problem is I want to see a completed journal with the new panel/led spectrum before biting and that may take months after........we already know that CLW panels work well and those REAL 5w diodes have always intrigued me.......it's a hard decision......

happy shopping

OK now where were we, Oh yeah, I believe a member by the name of Kite High, (I'm pretty sure that's who), has figured out or knows how much UVB you'll need to notice the effects of UVB, both good and bad. I take what he says with a grain of salt, but he does seem to know about this. And while he, or someone, in the thread said bulbs like the Reptisuns don't put out enough to have any effect basically, I don't know if he/they tested/tried them when they were over-driven, with Reptis newer model T8s or in my PAR staved tent :). I'm going to use them as a 2 to 4 hour mid-day blast, though I might turn off my 5x60 panel during some or most of that time. I've got 2 48" T8 lights and I'm going to run the UVB bulbs paired with Alto 5000Ks. I'm gonna run them stock for two months, then I'm planning on picking up two of those T8 LED replacement bulbs, not the ones with SMDs, but the ones with 3 watt LEDs. Then I'll over-drive the UVB bulbs to ~64 watts and pair them with the T8 LEDs. Then If everything is OK, I'll just wait for those 3 watt UVB diodes to come down in price and replace the LEDs in the T8 LED bulb and get a new pair of T8 LEDs. At least that's the plan. Mice and men and all that shit, right :)?

And I was very fond of the UVB on CLWs, but felt it was more of a gimmick after studying them a bit. Still it has been a while since I checked out CLW's, or (whoever runs it for them), grow forum. If you do go with CLW, do your grow report there since you'll get some feedback from many sources with hands on experience with CLW panels. Then you can come here and post some pics :)!

Thanks Fran, some good info right mere.

What kind of fixture do you have your T8's in? I'm getting at like- could I use the fixtures from menards, but the repitisun, or other brand UVB bulbs in those? Or is there specific aquarium fixtures with the right power supply needed? Thinking the second since I have not personally been able to find anything else.

Regular 2 bulb 48" T8 fixture from Home Depot. Nothing special cept they're reflective metal/pseudo diamond plate. The ballast might be little underpowered for the bulbs, but HD sells ballasts too. The only difference I've found with the Reptisun bulbs is they have nice copper endings. Tried one out today. Looked fine, but it's not like I stuck my face in it. LOL

I think the 5 watts are more of a selling gimmick... I am not impressed with the 5watts diodes in the HSS but I am sure CLW are much better. The thing is , ... I find the 3 watts diodes to be absolutely intense enough, I mean most people growing with LEDs have limited space.I have my lights 1 foot from the ceiling with 3 watters and I keep my plants very small.

Yea see the 5w diodes were just kindve like an "ehhh!!...cool." thing for me,

Now wether or not it would even be necessary or productive in my situation is a different story:

-I scrog, I would be fine with 1w diodes @90*, or 2-3w diodes @120*
-Heat, Im in 3.905sq ft area

Those were my two biggest worries with the SS400w, along with the T8's I would have to up my fan to an 8".... on a 3.905 sq ft. cabinet.. then it would just be so inefficient that I might as well go back to buying halves for 220 twice a month. lol

I shot a total of 10 emails with Jeff from A51 back and forth last night, Beef gave me a heads up for his temper lol. So I've been watching that, but he seemed very knowlegdable about their products and answered every question I had for him, similar to the survey CLW answered for me; and then some.

Honestly, I kindve feel bad... but I am already throwing back change for my order with Area 51. I am too stoked for what's happening there.

The Solarstorm may still be in the mix, but the pro's are tripled in A51's corner.

And Dawg, and anyone else:

---Vouchers--- Are given to a single customer, each code is custom to the custom...er. fuck. lol Though he did say most orders qualify for a Voucher Code- made it sound like depending on which light you purchased determined this.

The Super Lemon Haze and Tangerine Dream Update

-Started germing 2 SLH seeds sunday afternoon, 27th
-One popped the 28th, about 14 hours later
-The second yesterday morning, 29th

I had just put them into rock wool, hydration, and the "starter" system this morning with 2 T5's @ 24" away

The Round 2 Tangerine Dream are doing great, the Right is flourishing, taking over the left, I have started some LST with her. The left is about an 1 1/2" shorter than the right but doing alright- you can tell it is straining to try and catch up (stretched).

They are 4 weeks as of Friday morning, nutes are sitting at 480ppm, 5.8, 71*F. Threw in .2 ph up to bring me back to 6.0

Thank you for the patience guys, I know this is no fun without the luminous green hue's and pictures.

Hey Scotch, seems you were right to have some questions. The one thing you do want to check is whether the ballast you want to use is compatible with the bulb. Seems the brand of bulb I'm using, (ZooMed), recommends electronic ballasts only. Magnetics screw them up. I'm good, but didn't know that beforehand. Still I don't think modern T8s use magnetic ballasts. Problems with interference in the modern office and all I would think. Still you gotta check.

Boy this ballast technology stuff is hard ;).

Pictures???

Yes Fran all T8/T5 fixtures sold today have electronic ballast..........what you gain in the slight efficiency you lose in longevity

Some of the T12 fixtures(mag ballast) at my work where installed in 1981 and still working!!! just bulb changes...........he slowly changed most to T8 fixtures now(electronic ballast) and has had some give out in less than 4 years.............ah the beauty of modern chinese advancement:)

Hey thanks for the update Fran, I knew I had read something previously but couldn't put my finger on it.

No pics yet :/ the computer I was planning to use is in the process of getting cleaned and revamped; once that's done then I can safely upload pictures to there and fill all of you in.

Out of 10 seeds, I think I have found one solid keeper, the right one is just exploding, already beefing up my LST spots- so I killed a couple fan leaves and LST'd a bit more- kindve spiral affect. Indica Dominant, though a fair hybrid.

Now topping off- do you add Cal/Mag into your top off RO? Feel like I have seen several answers on both sides of the fence on this one. Just topped off earlier and took my ppm to 400, but I didn't wanna throw in my usual 150ppm CalMag water as top off and end up with an OD and fuck my self in the long run. So I thought I would use straight RO, as in the past, and keep an eye for def's. KISS.

Alright guys,

It has quieted down quite a since another thread has ceased to exist? No? May hop over and check on em...but that "forum" looks shady as fuck.. only thing i was against on the GFP.

So I have been emailing with A51, getting everything squared away so come March 1st, I will be first in line.... if Biscuit doesnt beat me... ;) Sounding like I will be pulling the trigger on at least 2, if not 3-4 panels. 3 is realllllly in the mix, recently had some issues with power the past couple days:

I turned both ProGrow's onto Full Spectrum, I was like "O, its 10 degrees out, Im kindve working against cold weather issues anyways...why not?"

Fuuuuuuck noooooo....of course not, something keeps tripping (not the breaker, checked repeatedly) every 15-20 minutes of running the setup with Full Spectrum. Killing all the power just to those two power strips Thinking its the surge protector im using, so I went out today and got a few to replace em with. See what we cant figure out.

Mind you my heater was on this supply.

SO, that being said: pretty sure on thursday night the two Tangerine Dream kids went without light, or oxygenated water. Ph plummeted from 5.9 to 5.4, temps down in the high 40's... o yea, good times. bout shit myself.

Fired it back up, realized what was happening and kicked it back to one spectrum per light, kid's didnt seem to worked up- little bit more Cal/Mag spots, thinking from lockout of res change time- 380ppm, 5.9, 71.? as of now. Actually have the water warming up, then ill swap em.

And Cal/Mag, you would think ive seen it enough by now...christ... but do the VERY beginning signs of Calcium rust spots start with a sheen, glossy look? From my experience I confirm this to be the case, but wanted to hear what others had to say, as it could very well be solution burn from checkin out my roots, which are glistening.

Seriously this Right Tangerine Dream looks great, definitely a mother, more indica dominant. The Left is just like the rest of em, its gangly....stretched... the leaves just dont look very happy. That Right one is one n a million for this strain... Thinkin about trying to take clones and flip em to get the taste of what the geno is gonna be like cured.

The SLH- the right seed broke the surface yesterday, and is not about 1 1/2" tall...little taller than Ive liked in the past, but moved em right up on the T5's since the 2nd had surfaced this morning. Soon as I see a few good roots ill transplant to a slightly larger pot where they will be too finish.

Kindve jumpin my buddy's ass about cleaning my computer up, but he's doing it as a favor..

Posted up a second outlet from another breaker- running all electronics in the Veg Chamber on this now.

Pro Grow's are on Full Spectrum and temps adjusted to handle it, will double check before the end of the night.

Left SLH is about 1" tall, catching back up.

Changed Res with 7ml CalMag, 8ml Gro, 3ml ph up to set me @
-6.2
-170ppm CalMag
-420ppm DynaGro
-----------
590ppm @ 63*'s (110ppm increase from last batch)

Left Tangerine Dream showing signs of Calcium deficiency up to the 3rd set of fan leaves, fourth and fifth set are good- so far.

Went ahead and sprayed 'er with 150ppm Cal/Mag.

Right Tangering Dream seems to be yellowing from the center quite a bit... thinking Nitrogen deficiency, doesn't quite look like an Mg..

sitting at 560ppm, 70.6*'s, 6.0

UPDATE

Changed the res again yesterday, they had eaten 50ppm of solution, and about an 1 1/2" of water out of the reseviore, and yellowing.... FUCK!!

So I dosed them to:
-9ml Bot. Cal/Mag (210ppm-- 60ppm more than before, see if we cant figure out this deficiency..)
-8ml Dyna Gro (400ppm)
-3ml Ph Up
-------------------
Cold temps were: 610ppm @ 52*, 6.2
By 12:45pm were: 640ppm @60.5*, 6.1

I went with the 640, 60.5 because I dont swap the res until your water hits 60, dont know specifically when shock occurs; but id like to avoid it. lol

They are already down to 590, 5.9, @70.4*

From what I understand this is good, but my ph keeps plummeting over a 24...36 hour period, like swings from 6.1 to 5.4 in a day and a half... this cant be normal?

SLH---- the right is 3" tall with one long main root developing it's feeders, The left is 2" tall getting those bushy roots on the inside of the net pot- this is what I love lol.

I put the new water for them in the veg chamber to warm up over today so I can transplant them tomorrow.

It's been a busy one, but I will be getting my computer back this week; pics soon after.

TD#2- 5 weeks old as of the 8th
SLH- 1 week old as of the 8th
