Hi , I'm new to constructing LED COB lights

Tinker & hoarder of parts ,I built highend watercooled PC's for rich teenagers back when PC gaming was the only game in town that Rocked !
That waz years ago .................... Damn platstation/xbox
so I familia with setting sinks ,fans, metal work , ect
grow history : I have 3 each 400 3 each 900 Mars2's
the mars grow killed the stuff waz top shelf next to the Dispendersy stuff here in NorCal
been a Gardner for 40 years , so the grow side I can do Very well I grew orchids under HPS/MH for years
I like organic type grows but I'm not stickler on that just know it grows better that way .
I was researching building cobs when I seen Gromau5's Mars Hack
Down the Rabbbit Hole we go : 12 CXB 3590 are on the way

As for the Title Hack discussion , I'm hacking my mars over into Cree COB arrays , some lights will be made outta mars parts as I need to move that $ into a light meaning I'm parts rich $$$ short , will see what I can come up with to hack my mars & use what i've hoarded

Feel free to advise I need all the help I can get

To Everyone & anyone who's threads I've posted OR If I quoted you
excuse the excitement , i went alittle overboard maybe ? saving cash excites me
fixed income !! If I Crapped on yer thread PLZ advise & i'll edit

Yeah I'm bad on the math dept , post concussion syndrome
not asking anyone to do the math for me just offer a opinion so that if they look like they'd work then I'd do the math
but math hurts
give me the recipe I can follow to the tee
but the math on just the volts for cob gives me a headache ( my main issue )
that's why I like it here I can follow the leads of others

The 9 minute mark is the recipe you follow to the tee. From the looks of the pictures I would say you could possibly run one COB passively on the two and maybe the third biggest one. The two smaller ones look like they would need to be actively cooled. I'm no expert and I'm just guessing based on the pictures. Only way to truly know is by doing the math.

ThanX ,
I'll start the math ,
ideally I'd like 2 cobs on the two large sinks with dual fans if needed
my grow room is 2nd bathroom 7 x 8 ' with a window
my area is odd shaped due to a shower fixture (only thing left of a tile shower stall )
then a toilet
so a bar assy build is what I'm looking at and some 2 cob fixture to use fill lights
but I could see all those sinks make a couple bars even if i cut the large sinks into 1/2's
active fan all

Looking at those heat sinks i would say they could all hold 1 cxb3590 passively cooled, but the 2 larger ones look just shy of being able to take 2 with out cooling fans. But, wait for alesh to chime in before committing, as my math is also shyte.

They look very similar to the heat sinks i use passively with single cxb3590's

Again this Thread is Not just a single build ! I gotta lotta Lights to go to replace my Mars2
after I'm done will all I'll redo the 1st rig I'm building now .
reuse recycle the thread theme

this is a Reclaimed or Salvage thread that I turn into LED assy's
Mars2 are the current victim /
I look to process & to discuss manners at one could build a high end from salvage & other low cost ways to get needed parts
I will NOT be doing low cost COB rigs / we're talking CXB3070 to 3950 Cree range of LEDS

i will work only on the leading edge COBs this thread is only for highend COB's on reused sourced materials

I do want feedbacxk & if ya know a better idea spit it out , I'm not sensitive to people posting .

Back @ the sinks = passive or active they will work ? Yes , You say P4id that's what I figured
thanx for the reply

+1 Stipping

Gromua5's vid's are a dream come true easy to understand simple instructions
they give a guy a base understanding very well of setting up yer grid/array

let me ask a question ;
I've got 12 CXB 3590's on the way
If you were doing a array with 12 what are the meanwell that will run them @ 50%
the best watts per cost for the meanwells is what I'm looking at
I'd shy away from a single meanwell
multiple meanys are better so IF I hack/swap things up , if needed
leaves my my head spinning but I got the 50% issue settled as what I really want to do

BTW
I failed to mention I have a solar array on roof a 4 K Watt system tied to the grid
last winter was 1st time I ever paid for electric in 17 years Yeah Mars2 ! !
saving power = buying more cobs = no cost but up front ; if done right
simple math That even I understand

I know it's hard crowd . . . . . :)
Nobody's a tougher critic than that MotherFucker I see in the mirror every morning. No matter what the numbers say, it has to work in real life or it's worth shit. I've had a lot of ideas that didn't pan out so I while my intuition tells me I'm onto something, I feel an absolute need to verify.
