3 Gallon Learning Curve and Some Kodama Nug Shots

After downsizing from 10 Gal pots to 3 Gal I’m realizing the need to feed at much shorter intervals. Started to see some deficiencies show up in the larger plants so was quick to add 1/2tsp blood meal, 2 TBL of Insect Frass and 1/2 tsp of Epsom Salt. Will probably need to repeat this for the plants in two more weeks. Should have added it two weeks ago to avoid this issue… next time.

Round 3 Begins

Just put a pack of AKBB’s Schrom x Romulan and Bodhi’s Honey Mandarin x Wookie (essentially a Wookie Bx) into water. Goal of this run will be to breed the two together for an Orange Fanta flavor.

Week 5 End Update

I'll get into a more detailed update on this one.

Smell observations in no particular order
Kali Mist x A1 (KMA1): New car smell, hints of coffee
Kodama: Sharp, Sweet, Chemical citrus, Tennis Balls some combo of those
Blue Raspberry: Blueberry marker, Overripe fruit, Fake berry,
Swazi Burmese: Soapy herbs, fresh citrus peels

Growth observations:
KMA1: Very Tall Plants. Every single plant is similar in height and stem structure. They range from ~5'10" to 6'3" in height, untrained. Main single cola with decent-sized Christmas tree-looking nugs. Medium-density buds, and have main colas that stretch 6-9" and are easily 2" in diameter at minimum. Showing light burn from running my lights up to the ceiling.

IMG_2606.jpeg

Kodama: Variable Plant Height. They have been adding a lot of trichomes this week. A lot of diversity in the taller three plants while the shorter two are pretty close in structure. The bud structure also widely varies with a standout performer that has 2" diameter buds to lesser yielders with maybe 1" buds at the top. The biggest plant will be competing for the highest yielding. There are two main leaf types, with the taller plants showing a lighter less glossy leaf and the shorter plants showing a deep green that has a leather-like look to it. Showing some N + Mg deficiencies or just consuming fan leaves. I'm inclined to think it's deficiencies with a good month left in flower. Light burn is an issue with the taller ones.

IMG_2607.jpeg

Blue Raspberry: Short Plants. As with the KMA1, these also are very similar in structure. They each have one main cola and don't have any bud sites but they make up for the lack of sites with ridiculously sized rock-solid buds and trichome-heavy production. They have really cool nodules on the buds that are loaded with hairs which is something I haven't seen before. One of the plants is much taller than the rest but has the same structure and bud density. The tallest one is showing Calcium deficiencies I think.

IMG_2609.jpeg

Swazi Burmese: Medium Plants. The shorter of the two phenos is proving to be much nicer than the larger one in respect to both bud density and smells. Overall the SB has the loosest buds of Round 2. However, these nugs will be different than everything else and I appreciate the variety. Light sensitive, the one out of the direct light is doing much better than the one near the LED.

Seed production
So far so good. I'm seeing tiger striped seeds in a few of the pollinated branches. Most are just beginning to peek out of their calyx and are still green. One of the Kodama F2 pollinations didn't take on a lower branch.

# of F2 crosses
Kodama - 9
KMA1 - 6
BR - 5

Round 3 Germinations

Fortunate enough to get 100% germinations from both packs. I dropped one of the Honey Mandarin x Wookie (HMxW) seeds into a bucket of water and couldn't find it so I'm left with 12 of that and the Schrom x Romulan (SxR). So far I have 21 of the 24 above soil. 2 were late to crack open so I expect a full 24 to be above soil by Thursday.

I'm tempted to call the Schrom x Romulan the Rom Schrom :bigjoint:

Round 2: Day 54 F

The BR will be early finishers compared to their tent sisters they will be down within 10 days. I’m guessing the rest have 4 weeks to go.

This one's my favorite. I like it's character.
It’s a unique one out of the bunch, smells way more chemically than the rest. Pretty cool!

I was thinking the same thing! Just pluck it and roll it right up. probably going to dry into 1/4 of a joint after the water loss. I’m saving it for sure.

Round 2 Finished

Been a while since I updated this journal so we are in for a long one.

I have a couple more branches to finish drying up, but for the most part all of the plants have been harvested and dried.

Biggest yield came from
Kodama 8 & 6
Blue Raspberry 1
Kali Mist x A1 3
Swazi Burmese 1

Best/Most Prominent Smells:
Blue Raspberry 3
Kodama 8 & 3

Most Resinous:
Blue Raspberry
Kodama

Color Tendency:
Kodama - Dark Purple
Blue Raspberry - Bright

Problem Children:
Kali Mist x A1 1 - Heavy Botrytis (scrapped for edibles)

Seeds collected:
Every single plant delivered on seed production….I have too many to test. So let me know if you want some!

Keepers:
TBD - need to smoke these all multiple times to get a gauge on things. I’ll post an in-depth smoke report for each variety and plant.

Round 3: Overcoming Transplant Shock

I paid the price for my high EC soil being too dry when I transplanted. The two pics are about a week and a half apart.

Watering makes all the difference!

Pollen Collected and Males Whacked

I was able to get a good quantity of pollen from both the SxR and the HMxW. I didn't collect from individual plants but instead collected pollen from the plants together. Figured that with no real front runner amongst the males, a larger genetic pool is instead more of a benefit.

I'll flip the girls to flower tomorrow after I've had time to get clear the pollen out from the room. I'm sure I have some accidental pollinations near the main stems on each plant, but that's unavoidable with my male tent being directly next to the female tent. Very stoked to get some crossed made with this pollen.

Round 3 Day 12 F

Since Bodhi released the Honey Mandarin x Wookie as Citrus Wookie Bx (CWBx) I’ll start to refer to those plants with the updated name.

The plants went right back into flower after their short stay in Veg. It’s always interesting to watch the plants react to the changes. This round both cultivars put off single leafs during and right after the reverse back to Veg.

The SxR girls were getting too big to house in the same tent as the CWBx so I split them across two 4x4 tents.

Round 3 Pollination and Stretch Day 20F

I've successfully pollinated the plants and so far it seems that not too many stray seeds will show up this round. The girls seem to be close to finishing their stretch.

Three of the CWBx have much stronger orange scents from their leaf rub. Getting excited about these and I am seeing some cool bud shapes developing. There is some color to the buds on certain plants which was surprising to me so early in flower.

I have three SxR plants that are nearly the same height and look like huge yielders. AKBB sure breeds some consistent plants with great traits. Also one of them went mutant on me when I flipped them from flower to veg and back to flower. The second to last picture shows what I'm talking about. I also have a bit of light burn, but the lights won't go any higher with the filter in the way.

Hermies

In what I hope doesn't become Round 3's trend, I found 2 SxR plants that threw out bananas. I cut down one completely as it was hermied all up and down it. Another one I cut down the main stalk and will leave the few remaining branches in place for now as they are free of pollen sacks.

I think I caught it early enough to avoid any self-pollinating.

After a few rounds and running whole packs it was just a matter of time before I found something that expressed hermie tendencies.
