thanks for the support.

i am really "giddy" like a little girl about this. coould not stop smilling after each jar was made last night.

unfortunatley i made one error. my holes were not big enuff for the needle.
i had to open them a bit with a lobster pick. i dipped it in alcohol and lit it.

hopefully i didnt contaminate anything. i tried to be as sterile as possible.

easily got a dose of spores into each hole of every jar.

i even grabbed an aquarium from my parents before they put it to yard sale.
came with air pump as well.

so i have a terrarium to use when needed.

was a little more work than expected but not bad. 1.25 hours of sterilization in steamer.

2.5 hours cooldown before innoculation.

i expect that by thursday i should be seeing something happeniing.

of course looking at my 4 strain choices, i keep thinking i should have gone with the CREEPER!!!!

makes me think of CREEPER WEED

five out of 10 jars are showing white cloudy spots in inoculation area.

will post pics when all ten are set, but at the moment they look exactly like the pics in the PFTEK recipe of starting inoculation

by the way i used the maximum fruiting recipe of 1/2cup verm, 1/4cup freshly round BRF, and 1/4 to 1/3 cup of water.

to note that the jars that are moist are first to show signs. not that the others are dry per say but there is a difference between jars and my eye on water level to 1/4 cup every time.

so i have ten of ten jars started. all show some sign of growth although some more than others.

been almost one full week. things look good. not sure why some have more than others. didnt bother to mark them as i made them. could be spore content, water content. some there hopefully it will catch up to others. good news is only 3 of ten are slow and minimal growth

They're doing fantastic. Just wait, and don't bring them out into the light too much. Otherwise you get immature pinning. Some colonize faster than others... Like I said, just be patient. ;-)

i actually have not been keeping them out of light per say.

i moved them to my attic because the wife likes to keep the house at 65 degrees. the attic is the warmest spot.

also

they were just "out" in the attic getting "indirect" sunlight. (whatever came in thru my eaves windows)

then i placed them in a 5gallon empty kitty litter bucket. the fresh step kinds. it is white, but with the minimal light coming in i did not think it mattered.

then i felt it was to cold still so, i have a grow setup going there as well and i took the exhaust and ran it to a pale containing the shrooms.

the exhaust is close to 85+degrees. i hope that ok.

should i be in complete darkness?
is it better for them?

i dont think they are doing bad but this is my first time and have no real base line to go on.

still only at 12 days. i figure i need another 7-10 days before i birth them, then another 1-2 weeks for fruiting.

sound right?

here we go starting on day 14.

got 2 pictures. 1 is of the 5 best. these have full 360 degree inoculation and one has started for the bottom.

the other picture is of my 5 worst. they only have white where i hit them with the needle still and have yet to circumference the jar. but they all still white and growing.

i see pinning which is good.

anyhow, patience young weed smoker.....oops, patience young shroom grower...

p.s. i think because i did not shake syringe between inoculating each jar i have un-even growth. MENTAL NOTE FOR ALL NEW GROWERS!!!

here is another picture of the one showing "pinning" as described by the PF TEK recipe.

i hope you can see little "rod-like pins" shooting out looking for more food i would gather.

what a learning exp.

cant wait for my first abort

so i decided to take some pictures today. unfortunately the heat wave and my lack of motivation to vent cool air in to my grow cab has pretty much killed my plants.

oh well, good learning exp. now its time for the killer females.

anyhoo, i took pictures of all of my jars, the five best and the five worst or slowest. on the best ones there is only one picture and the jars are not marked. they are covered completely 360 around with no signs of contamination.

the other five i actually marked 1-4 on each piece of tape on the lids that cover the holes i used to inoculate. i turned then 1/4 turn for each picture staring with the worst or slowest side showing. each picture is labeled and consecutive in nature. they also show no signs of contamination. i hope i have made it past the hard part of this contamination issue.

the point of doing this is to show how poorly i distributed the spores, YET everything seems to be growing. seeing alot more pinning on the on these as opposed to the others, which look like they got massive doses of spores.

at least compared to the others.

SHAKE YOUR SYRINGES BETWEEN JARS

i must have missed that class. but all goes forward more or less.

ahhh, cant wait, at least i have the rebuilding of the grow to keep my occupied until magic time:mrgreen:

i havent been this excited in long time. the hardest part was sweating the mail to come in. just about every site ships regular mail so keep this in mind if ordering. i got 4 needles and sryinges and the box was just small enough to fit in the mailbox. plus i have been workin on these, i still have 3 more different spores to try. kinda went over kill. oh well more for me.

the next hardest part was putting the recipe together. if you have another helper this can go quickly, but alone it took me atleast 2 hours and i still made mistakes.

its not hard per say just more of what i call BS work or setup work.

aside from that, i have my own house wife and 4 cats. i leave the jars in a bucket and try to keep them in a fairly warm area of the house. pretty small setup to hide in a closet if need be.

if have kids, just wait til they go to bed then make everything up and hide,
just need small area to birth them. good for a man/woman town.

anyhow, i just checked them and not much improvement. hard to notice day by day. going away for 4 days and wont see them till i get back. then i update.

wish i had better luck with my plants.

its been a few days since my last post and not too muc to report on.

i started these on the monday of the last holiday weekend, memorial day weekend and so far have not seen evidence to birth yet.

it has been 3 weeks now, almost 5 are completely covering the jars and the other 5 are still improving.

i have 1 or 2 jars with a slight brown stain in some areas. not to obvious but you can notice a slight difference in color from the white mycelium.

it only appears in the slower growing jars and i am hoping it is just the rice powder bleeding out a little and mixing with the water because it is not being eaten fast enough by the mycelium? just guessing.

i check shroomery for a listing of know contaminants and some pictures but did not see anything that looked like what i have.

my temps have been low between 65-70f i attribute the slow growth to this, but from what i read it is better to be cooler than to have too much heat.

i recently started to use a small space heater to raise temps for a portion of the day to see if it promote an increase in growth.

heres a picture. the ones that are all white are almost complete. i expect those to be ready for birthing soon and the other 5 should be a couple weeks behind depending on any contaminants.

actually i didnt realize the picture was so good. you can see the difference in color on the top right jar with the number 3 visible. it is looking a little tanish. i am not sure if this is contaminant.
