lol i was just kidding about a giant fucking wind turbine in my back yard :P i guess you didnt understand that it was a joke :P, but even if you get dc current it could be converted to ac, and ive seen solar panels that are flexible like plastic, just cover one side of your roof with it, and you should probably get plenty of power, like fdd said. But as to whether or not the power company can monitor your power consumption, i guess it depends on whether or not you want to sell the rest back to the electric company, but here in canada i saw on the home depot website that a $5500 dollar solar panel that is 8 inches is depth 63 inches in height and 34 inches in width can produce 1750 watts of electricity, which should be plenty for your grow room, and if not you can buy one more

What I had thought about though was if a solar panel could be powered by your hid lights.

Have a smallish panel in there and then when the lights come on so do the fans.

ya 150w for a fraction of the price, but a fraction of the watts, the solar panels were talking about are 1750 watts

Yeah at how many volts though. this is going to alter the amount of amps you have available. See I'm wondering if you would actually get enough amps to power a lighting system.

all you need is to work it out on the watts. so 150w at 240v is the same as 300w at 120v

w/e confusing i dont know much about electricity but 1750w solar panel can easily power a fridge and lighting around the house and so on...
