Hey all i was thinking about making a sound damping box around my inline fan but ive heard its a waste of time and ive also heard thats its a great idea.. I heard that it will over heat my fan......then i heard it wouldnt over heat it but that most of the sound comes from where its intaking air and that putting a box around the fan will only help a tiny bit but not worth the effort.......then i heard it works great.lol

If i deciede to make one WHATS THE BEST MAY TO MAKE IT?? WHATS THE BEST MATRIAL TO USE?? Anyone ever make one before and have any tips for me???

i've just soundproofed my fan it helped a fair bit
i had a 6 inch fan
i used the box it came in
some solid 6 inch ducting

i taped the duct to the inlet and outlet of the fan i then covered the fan and duct in clingfilm and then covered that in duct tape.
then i put the fan back into the box with the ducting sticking out of holes in the side i taped up all the gaps
i then got some fire rated expanding foam and squirted it into the box in several places untill it was full. it dried within about a day.
you'd need to have insulated ducting aswell to get the full benefits

i had read about this somewhere on this site but cant remember who did the original post
