Rep. Chris Collins on Wednesday laid some blame on Democratic political rhetoric for a shooting that injured GOP Majority Whip Steve Scalise at a Republican congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia.
"I can only hope that the Democrats do tone down the rhetoric," Collins said. "The rhetoric has been outrageous: The finger-pointing, the tone, the angst and the anger directed at Donald Trump, his supporters, really then, some people react to things like that, people get angry as well, and you fuel the fires."
Collins also said he would carry a gun in public in the incident's aftermath.
Good for you, I hope it goes off in your pocket, and blows your balls off you asshole.

Maybe the next time around, he will vote for refusing the right for gun ownership for persons with PROVEN mental disabilities, unlike his previous vote which was in support of the NRA's stance that it would be an infringement on a citizens right to bear arms.

WASHINGTON — As part of an effort to roll back Obama-era regulations, Congress is expected to take up legislation as early as next week that would prevent the government from declaring some Social Security recipients unfit to own guns after they’ve been deemed mentally incapable of managing their financial affairs.
At the urging of the National Rifle Association, a rule requiring the Social Security Administration to send records of such individuals to the federal background check system for firearms is among a host of regulations the group says is being targeted by the Republican Congress for repeal under the Congressional Review Act, which allows Congress to dismiss actions an outgoing administration initiated in the last six months.
The rule, issued in December in response to the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, applies to recipients of disability insurance and supplemental security income who require a representative to manage their benefits because of a disabling mental disorder, ranging from anxiety to schizophrenia. The Obama administration estimated in January 2016 that about 75,000 people would have their records submitted for background checks each year under the rule, which applies to those between age 18 and full retirement age.
The rule was hard fought by gun-rights advocates who feared it would impinge on Second Amendment rights. The NRA lobbied for its reversal, arguing it stripped the right to keep and bear arms without due process from “some of the most vulnerable Americans.” They say it is the result of a political agenda, and it would keep those in distress from seeking mental health assistance for fear of losing their rights.

I think the average voter is more moderate when it comes to guns.
There's no middle ground in the gun debate -- which is the real problem. The NRA thinks we should be able to own anything that shoots bullets, and the anti-gun folks would ban BB guns if they could. (You'll shoot your eye out, after all.)
"Assault-style" weapons make the news, but if you look at body count, handguns kill *WAY* more people.
It's not even close...

I own an AR15. I own several firearms.
I used to be "not to be infringed" guys. I've thought about it though. I've bought all mine legal with the exception of a few that were either gifts or random flea market buys.
I have no problem with background checks. I also think it makes sense that if you're so unfit mentally that someone has to handle your money and affairs that you shouldn't own a gun.
Ill give a little and be open to sensible gun laws.
Ill also say that mine are always locked up in a safe that is bolted to concrete and would take a forklift to move with the exception of my carry gun. If its not on me its in a quick safe.
Ill never understand people that own thousands of dollars worth of guns and put them in a $100 flimsy tin gun safe.

Believe it or not, I also own guns, 3 rifles and 1 shotgun.
I used to hunt, no more (too old to drag deer), so now I simply go to the range with my son for target fun, and teach him about responsible use of a firearm.
I actually was an NRA member until it turned into a asylum for lunatics (thanks LaPierre), and bailed out.
I believe that there is a use for firearms, for sport shooting and hunting primarily, but all this 2nd Amendment BS, where you have this cowboy full open carry shit is nuts, and gives responsible gun owners a bad name.
The NRA today is it's own worst enemy.

I've never been a member of the NRA. Ill agree they have become a political lobbying machine.
I'm on the fence about open carry. I have at times open carried. Just a pistol. I don't see much wrong with that.
I do see a problem with the people that walk around with ar and ak's trying to get cops to confront them just so they can film it and argue their right to carry.
I went the route of a carry permit so I don't have to worry about it.
I could care less about being a hero or cowboy. I was robbed at gun point when I was 16.
The only reason I carry is to be able to remove myself or family from a dangerous situation if need be.
A lot of this stems from rural life. Police and ambulance response times were hours where I was raised and where I live now.
