Stupid? About making own nutes

If we can make our own liquid mutes using water for hydro. Why do we have to switch our nutes up in hydro every week. We have to check ppm's everyday so why renute. I mean we have to use water to make our own nutes. Why not just tweek what's in there

No actually thinking of making my own. Tweeking it the way I want to...but I'm curious because I do still have a lot nutes left
What are you planning to mix up? It's all about the ingredients. Most straight solution fertilizer has a guaranteed NPK ratio. I'd be a shot in the dark trying to get certain NPK values. And a lot of the stuff doesn't go well together.

I tried mixing around the GH flora nova. If you don't include bottle one. The micro. The other two mixed together by themselves(grow & flower, no micro). Will Jack a plant up. At least it did when I tried it.

I've been running DWC for 16 years and I rarely change my nutes but once right after the stretch. I've even skipped that and run some all the way thru without changing. I just boost the ppm up as the plants eat it down. You have to use really good RO water so you don't get minerals building up from the water and I use the pH Perfect nutes so I never bother checking pH and haven't had any deficiency problems.

Making your own from basic salts is the first hydro I ever used back in '82 and it's a PITA. If I were going to run a commercial type hydro operation I'd probably get back into it for the cost factor but if $300 worth of nutes will grow me 30 - 40 lbs of pot over a few years why bother with mixing up your own.

There's a big long thread here somewhere about making formulas to mimic the commercial ones with exact amounts of each salt to be used to get similar formulas.
