No problem blazin waffles! I don't know what would be the best time to move them. I don't think moving them during the light cycle would be a problem. SunnyD do you know if you can get a HPS light at Lowes or Home Depot? I'm sure you can get the bulb because I've seen it, but I want to get something I can just plug in & hang on chains ya know??

they have hps' there but not the grow light kind....i ordered mine from htgsupply....i got 250w bulb, ballast, reflector, i have it hanging with some thick string...lol plugs right in 120v or 240v,,, u specify when u order.....

Its kinda expensive to pay upfront, but u get wayyy more back after the first harvest....i've smoked over a qp of the dankest shit around here....all went to me and friends lungs...

How many plant will 250 support. I was thinking 400w maybe later on down the road.

im constructing a grow cabinet thats 29"wide 29"deep and i think 66" tall. i'm going to section the bottom off and have 18" high for a veg with cfl's and uptop have 48" for the flower area i was looking at this one High Tech Garden Supply for a setup like that

ok cool...i was getting worried there..so i should hold off putting 2 14 watts in there then until later??

u can do it now...just make sure its not to hot around the seedling...those cfls do put off a fair amount of heat to fuck things up....i usually keep them a few inchs away at this stage..and gradually move to where i leave them 2-3 in away....i also have a reflector that came with the socket...its a clamp socket for about 6 bucks at hd.

ok..i have the light close to my seedlings.should i move it further away if i feel heat wen i put my hand between the light and the plant..or should i leave it like dat..mind you..i do have a fan blowing in my grow space..

howhigh123 i'm on my first grow and i'm using cfls i started with 1 43w and as the plant grew i kept getting more cfls, my newbie mistake was thinking a ton of cfls will guarantee a big yield but i was informed lumens don't add up, the best thing to do is to use the right spectrum and spread out your lights as much as possible...as far as heat one of my 23w bulbs fell on my top leaves dead center for about a half hour directly on the leaves, that set of leaves got singed pretty bad, but the result was a super bushy plant, basically they cant be an inch away and not burn it

Okay dude... first off your lights aren't close enough to the seedlings... second don't use nutes when they are seedlings. Get some perlite and worm castings and mix it with your soil. Didn't read through it all someone might of said these things... but yeah. Good luck with your dying babies. :|

if u feel heat, then it may be too hot for the seedling.....imo
With the CFL's if you keep them 2- 2 1/2 in away you should be fine as long as the air is getting circulated. I was doing some testing with temp and my CFLs. just by having a fan on it decreased the average temp by 17 degrees. You can get a temp gauge at Lowes that has a little thing you can place anywhere for "inside and outside" temp readings. Get one of those and make sure its not over 90 and you should be good.

howhigh123 i don't know if my setup is a fire hazard, but that's 12 cfls 289w total, and my closet gets up to 85 with the door closed, if i open it up it's around 80, i have air conditioning in their so i also use that to lower the temps

thanks ups..that clear things up..im happy u said dat before i made dat mistake..cuz i was thinking that exact same thing about the lights and the yeild..ima go bring my light further away..cuz they are 2 inches from my seedlings.and i dont knoe if it is gonna burn them..

the safest way to judge distance from the plant is if its to hot for your hand its too hot for your plant

thanks blazing waffles..i had move my light further away in fear of burning it..but since you said that..i think im gonna move it back..cuz i do have a fan in there..

I was under the impression that lumens added as well. Basically in laymans terms it takes twice as many bulbs to double the lumens. My 12 26w CFL's produce 1600 lumens a piece. They all together only add up to around 5600 lumens. But they are 6100 kelvin which is blue. My flowering are 2700 kelvin which is red/orange.
