Switching mediums, which is the easiest?

I had a few grows under my belt. Did decently with FFOF, roots, and one good run with a peat moss mix. But I am now on my third failed grow after swapping mediums and nutrients. I was using maxi gro and I've flipped over to dyna gro. I'm not sure what my issue is but my recent failures have humbled me greatly. What is the simplest medium so I can reteach myself what I thought I already knew.

I was planning on just picking up a charged soil and taking things slow. But everyone I know of speaks highly of coco mixes.
Why don't you go back to what worked the best @ the start ? Proven itself, just tweak a thing or two but keep it simple.. Hopefully you'll do well.. Good luck and happy growing

I would caution the experimentation. Trying new things is good. But me personally, I got too big for my britches thought I knew what I was doing, now im struggling to get a crop to even make it into flower from experimenting too much. After 3 solid grows under my belt.
See I'm always trying new stuff local grow stores around me give me stuff to try out and let me know how things go. Thus why I have a third growroom for experiments only lights, soils, nutes and what not. Different gear or mediums don't present much issue unless you as a grower aren't dialed in. Failures are a result in your growing style and the environment you present them with. My favorite medium is promix bx, roots organic greenfields and original all mixed together. With that mix I simply water alternating great white and mammoth p every other week. I generally don't have to feed them anything for at least four or so weeks then I top dress as needed with roots dry nutes. Now I do keep vegamatrix around and have been running that line here lately and loving it and running Detroit water only super soil in another room and that soil is stellar as long as you water it as stated. Experimenting is fun and a good way for experienced growers to stay on their toes. Hope this helps you some.

Where do you get the detoit super soil? I go to hydromaster at 16 and groesbeck. not a lot of selection there, but good prices

Yeah i just picked up a bag of roots organics. anybody know if its recommended to mix lime into soil?
Most stuff is already limed, forget adding more.

Soil is easy but never put a small plant in a big pot, seedlings need a handfull of dirt at most, growth takes off when roots establish, smaller pot cycles speed the wet and dry cycles, ditch everything and just use a good soil fert....

I went with a purchased super soil (Kind Soil. Research has shown me that everyone who's used it and followed their recommendations were successful. Most everyone stated they wouldn't be buying it again but never said exactly why.) under about 5 inches of coco in 5g pots. Couldn't be happier with how things are going @ 1 month. Suffered minor def's 2 weeks in as 2 plants grew slightly slower and didn't reach the soil in time (They recommend NOT using coco on top. I didn't see that part :eyesmoke:).

Nothing but day old tap water. Should be this way to the end with this soil. So they say.

That said, I'm running auto's. 1st real grow. I wanted easy, less chance for error, watch and learn.

Next grow is going to be coco/perlite. Drain to waste and coco "hempy" side by side. Same strain I'm growing now. Science!

IMO coco looks to be the easiest non-soil way to grow. All the bonuses of hydro without the issues that growing in water can have. I can read a digital meter, measure and pour so I should be good to go!
I met the maker of that. He didn't know it at the time that he sold me some for testing cheap..I didn't discuss his soil at that time either.

I found it to be too hot and under cooked..Too much of the available N was Urea based too.....I don't like layering methods either.....Mix it, cook it, use it - water it.

That kinda depends on the soil.....FFOF is lacking effective long term Ca/Mg.....If I use it for making a special soil. I always add a good 1/2 C of Dolo....I see plenty of OF runs on here with low Ca problems at later points.

This was my point to the op, its not your medium but your method that defines your grow. Initially lime should be off no concern and with the right methods outlast a short grow.

I decided to get a back of roots organics for the time being. And while I get this batch of clones going, I think I will mix myself up some of subcools super soil and leave synthetic fertilizers in the past

i started my 1st. grow back in dec 5 in 70%coco 30% perlite mix i made myself. started 2 n.l autos, 1 n.l. blue auto 1 early widow and 1 w.w photos directly under a 1200w and 600w led. I've never grown w/ chem. nutes or indoors under lights. I've got 30+ yrs. growing gardens organically. well initially everything went good but i had read to do 1/4 nutes for the autos. well i stunted them pretty bad . then i decided to add gypsum, lime and kelp powder to the top of the coco to try and fix the problem. of course it made it worse. ph was everywhere! had multiple lockouts, N toxicity you name it! well last week i harvested my autos and got about half of what i probably should have got but i learned on those plants. now i got the 2 w.w photos are taking off like rockets and I'm not over thinking anymore. going by the nute chart for the g.h flora and cal/mag I'm using. i water 4 gal. for the 2 plants daily with about 20% runoff. i got them in 4 gal. airpots. these things are big and beautiful ! just flipped to 12/12 2 days ago . don't sweat it! listen to your plants. don't be afraid to ask questions on here either. go with what worked for you in your 3 good grows and stay with that. i was pretty deepressed for awhile, watching my 3 autos struggle but i still got some good smoke to keep me going till' the widows are ready. what a vigorous strain they are ! i give slightly less than recommended from g.h and they doing great! a little g.w with a teaspoon of molasses evey other watering seems to be helping too. they're already 3ft. tall and bushy. lsted. topped , super cropped and pruned the hell out of them many times. they're as wide as they're tall! good luck with your grow man!

Water every 3rd day on mine 2 a light consistently my partner hits higher consistently and so does the warehouse I used to work at

How do you get away with every 3'rd day. I'm 2,000ml+ every day from the 2'nd week of bloom to finish. Due to overlap in runs, I've had 2 days off since Dec. 10'th, 2015.

When I say "every day", I mean it's certain death if I miss a single watering.

I'm in OF+ amendments. Don't give me shit, hard enough getting the amendments mixed in. I'd spend more time mixing than I would "growing".

I gave up on everything coco. Tried with a group, ended up watering twice a day. Never again. As it is, I spend 6+ hours watering (micromanager, won't let anyone else mix or water).

3'rd day?!

:bigjoint:

To answer OP, I'd say dirt is the "easiest". It is the most forgiving and, if done right it, can match hydro growth, but with terps that only the earth can provide.

With that being said, experience and environment make narrowing down "The Best" impossible.

Just Give Up growing and realize Growing Just is not for me. You have 70 plus threads started yes, by you and you still have not got it yet..

Just stop:mrgreen::peace:

or I think you where asking about a ph pen in some thread, get that and keep your plants in the ph zone. All nutes have your Macro's in it at this point, ALL. Find one that you like or as you are doing the super soil thing, young plants should be able to be transplant without burning.

Growing is pretty easy, so if you are not getting it, don't know what to tell you.

Plus there are 1000's of detailed grow diaries on here, so again this might not be your strong point. Bahahah

So are you saying the rest of us that run a three day wet dry cycle in soil are wrong because thats pretty much how most of us roll. When it needs water everyday its time for a transplant to a bigger pot.
