Tech Talk Live Stream

I have wanted to start an interactive live stream for tech talk and answering questions. For any of you that watch Bubbleman's hashchurch...this is that for led's and growing. For now it's @Greengenes707(me), @Growmau5, and @robincnn. We just did the first episode and will keep it up and grow it into something great. This first one was little scattered, but was fun and entertaining I believe...and definitely some good knowledge in there. We will get more structured with specific topics. And once the live chat gets activated will really get some good and streamlined content going in real time.

Here is the first show, so take it easy on us...

So post up questions, comments, suggestions....and this will be the hangout thread for the stream.

Just FYI cannabis in nature/outdoors is a wind pollinated annual:wink:.....ha............ amazing to me that the mccree curve is still "the graph" after all these years....

hope you post updates here as facebook can suck it

I believe indepth talk over intensity ranges, optics used/not used, and cob spreading would all make for worthy topics.

Just got around to watching this today. Good stuff being talked about. Hope you continue with more discussions in the future.

A couple comments / suggestions about the format in general:
  • 80 mins was tough to get through especially in one viewing. I broke it up in two 40 min sessions. Perhaps shorter sessions 30-60 mins max might be better.
  • Shorter sessions can be more focused on certain topics
  • An agenda up front would be great so we know what will be discussed
  • After the live talk is over and posted somewhere, a video timeline breakdown would be awesome. Like from 5:00 mins in to 20 mins are spectrum talk, 20:00 - 30:00 is lenses, etc.
Just my takeaways. Great stuff regardless. Keep it up. Look forward to the next one.

I believe what @robincnn was referring to @38:30 or so of the vid, when saying that 3500K had a higher photon output than 4000k or more "power", but not necessarily higher efficiency, is computing PPF by way of umol/ j

and indeed the Cree and Vero 29 3k's and both CRI flavors have higher photon output per joule than 4k versions and even though not listed, the 3.5K falls in the middle, with more photon output and less efficiency than the 4k, but a tad lighter photon output and greater efficiency than the 3k in retrospect.

Talk to me about a sunrise sunset. I know the usefulness of the sunset timer (if using 730nm), but what do you do for sunrise?

660 and 730 is my choice for a baseline..... :)
So, you open the day with some 730 and 660 as well? I only use it at night, I thought it was a sleep trigger, mimicking the spectrum of the sunset... Is there a lag in uptake time if the light just kicks on, as there is a lag in going to sleep when lights just turn off without 730? I just don't understand the benefit of it.

most are using ONLY 730 nm, after lights out....

Sorry what I was suggesting was 730+660nm when Lighting turns on...then 730 off after 5 mins and 660 to blend for longer....Only as a baseline suggestion.

Maybe google something like plant responses with sunrise/sunset triggers and mimicking.....?

It makes for an interesting choice between using various colors when considering umol/j and efficiency, although most overall photon counts have come close to one another between the 3000~4000K flavors of, say the Vero make, which leaves the quantity of given wavelengths the remaining factor in deciding which flavor will theoretically work better than another.
