Initial Post:
Strain - Grilled Cheese
Germ Date - 8/20
Lights - A51 160 (x2) timed at 13/11
Method - Ebb&Flow timed at 6 floods per day
Nutes - General Hydro 3 part

The only 473ml cups I could find are clear. I wrapped them in aluminum tape and used masking tape for the labels. I hope this shit holds up. The 6th cup is wrapped in gorilla tape and aluminum tape to distinguish it as a non comp cup.
The bottoms have slits cut into them and window screen on the inside covering the slits to prevent root penetration.

my last run i did no drainage in 20oz bottles.. they always showed underwatering from rootbound and/or overwatering from no drainage but roots looked good and they grew ok

The rule just means you basically can't have the cup sitting in a flood tray or dwc system with big ass holes in the bottom and a root mat growing in the tray or water supporting the plant.
The plant has to be supported by a 16oz rootball.
Makes me giggle a bit when I see people using rocks - all that space for roots they are giving up  :bigjoint:

Plants don't levitate; my plants eat rocks so there will be no rocks in that cup at the finish line anyway.
They will if you set your cup up right. ;)

Mine are getting pampered with a bed of the finest and plushest coco fiber I could find on ebay. These prima donnas are going to be primo smoke by the end of it. :P

Ok here we go, I went with 2 Afghani regs only one popped so hope it's a female. Medium is FFOF with added perlite, nutes FFOF big bloom and tiger bloom, cal/mag if needed.. Lighting 10x23w=230w cfl.. Sprouted on 8/18 under 12/12.
My cups are green cuz the store was out of red ones so I cut a strip off a folder ( kind used for school) to wrap around cup to keep light out.. I think that's it.. Happy Growing!! Weekly updates on Sunday..image.jpgimage.jpg

I would be interested in a water displacement test to see what is what. The more dense something is in the same amount of space = less room for roots. I am thinking my cups have more root space than a cup of dirt or coco.

But coco compresses where rock does not.
This comp is a great info gathering adventure for all of us if we pay close attention and take notes.
Like, I have never started a seed under an IG420 so now I know how they work in that situation

I'm sure the rocks occupy less volume, but the coco can be compressed and displaced, Soil will be consumed, rocks are static. But who knows, maybe you'll get a pound, maybe I'll get a pound. Maybe we'll all get about a lb :P

Gotta love fulvic acid. Less than 12 hours in the dish and I already see smiles and tap roots coming out to say 'hi', I'll be ready to join this for sure in the next few days.

WEEK ONE UPDATE

I will update on sundays. I tried to do my first post on sunday but for some reason the bag of 16 oz cups actually contained 18 oz so i had to get 16's before i didmy first post.

The competition is looking good so far. I'm not worried about running out of root space because you dont really need a bunch of roots with hydro, you just get nutes and water straight up the stem.

For now i have them in a 7 gallon bucket with the led sitting on top running at half power. It's working good so far, they aren't stretching at all. Tonight i'm going to flush them and give them some fesh maxi grow.
