For anyone who has grown with the areogarden from seed to bag (or clone to bag), approx. how long did it take??

I should be getting mine Tuesday and I'm ridiculously excited!! I've grown with soil a few times and had nice results, but this is my first attempt at hydroponics/"aeroponics"... so wish me luck!!

I wouldn't advise starting from seed in the aerogarden. new plants IMO need to be brought through properly, given at least a 6-8 week veg before a mom is selected and you flower the rest. Once you have a mom, place one of her clones in the aerogarden, just 1 as it is only a 1 gallon res', and watch her explode.

My DWC often grow spastic-like once the rooting is over (about a week), then they just explode into growth. After 2 weeks veg' they drink up to 2litres per DAY. After 3 weeks veg' and they are drinking 3litres per day. This is usually where I cut them in half to calm down their drinking or place them into flower to get easily 2oz per plant.

OK, I finally decided to start my own thread. I am a complete noob to growing but I have an Aerogarden that's been going for 20 days now. I started with 7 mixed bag-seeds. I have NO IDEA what strain they are since I usually just collect seeds whenever I find them in a bag. A lot of them are from Mexico, some from California, and from Oregon. Anyway, I dropped the seeds in the pods and fired it up on July 26th.

I am growing for personal use, and I don't smoke a ton, so my main goal was CHEAP. The AG cost me basically $20 for shipping so far, and I have another 2+ weeks to decide if it is worth keeping, then I pay $40 a month for 3 months. I managed to scrounge up some upgrades: I found an old aquarium air-pump at the Goodwill for like $3, and got an airstone for $2. I had an old fan, and also an 18" flouro tube lamp that I stuck in there as well. Finally I rigged up an old triple bulb lamp with CFLs I pulled from other sockets in the house. They are only 13watts, but I already had them, so they did not cost me anything. I am using the AG nutes, but only one tablet per gallon, and I am using distilled water because I am on a well with lots of minerals in the water. Finally I found a wire from an old camcorder that fit the light hood perfectly! A $4 timer from Goodwill along with a three-way plug, and my light are now on 18/6 with an adjustable timer.

Out of 7 seeds in the AG, 6 have sprouted, one was a dud. I also stuck all the actual herb seeds (basil & mint, etc) in a soil pot along with one extra bag seed I had. That one is sprouting too, and so are the herbs that came with the AG, which will make my wife happy if they grow.

So I have 7 little ones, but so far two are stunted. They still are under the little plastic cups from the AG, and are not growing much. I may off them if they don't die of natural causes, but I will see how long the little buggers can hold on.

By far my best plant is the "Italian Basil". She started leaning from the get go, but this may actually work out well since she is low and SUPER BUSHY, she had better be a GIRL! Next to her is "Parsley", she is growing and filling in nicely. Finally I have "Dill" and "purple basil" that are looking healthy, though growing more slowly than the other two. I am hoping for at least one female, but we shall see.

First of all, I know that the setup I have is hella ghetto, and that I should be using better nutes and stronger lights, but I have what I have, and for this grow that is probably as good as it is gonna get.

I am hoping someone can give me advice on when to flower. I have heard that you should flower early in the AG, how do I know when to flower?

OK, so it's been 21 days and the growth is insane! I can actually see new leaves on Italian Basil a few hours after the last time I looked!

I think there are about 4 sets of leaves on both her and Parsley, the last sets have 7 points. I haven't gotten any responses on this thread, which kinda sux. I need some advice on when to start flowering. I am thinking maybe a week at the most??

Anyway, here are more pics.

Just got my aerogarden the other day was going to send it back but figured I'd try. It will be nice to have a reference to see how it works for you...Thanks

Hey everyone!!

I just planted a seed in my garden tuesday evening and noticed it sprouted this morning (friday)

So far I love this system. I'm also growing Basil and Purple Basil and some mint with it and I lloovee just opening it up and looking at it.

As of now I have it set on Herbs/Basil. I read tomato/peppers would be best but I figure I'd give it a try. I also have the built in light timer set to the herb/basil setting.

So with that in mind, my main question is: How have you forced flower your plants with the aerogarden? Did you get a wall timer and set it 12/12? or did you leave it on the built in light cycle?

Other than that all of my other questions have been answered throughout the thread.
Thanks!!

One other thing...

Does anyone have any good pruning tips other than "topping"?? I'm trying to keep mine short but with a lot of nodes.

Don't really know why I was going to send it back, just lazy i guess. I figured the seed in the pod couldn't be replaced, but now that i read it is possible I look forward to powering it up. I have some stray seeds around, the recently purchased white widows are on their way

Just don't put more than 2 plants in there. You may have noticed from reading through this thread that there is plenty of evidence to suggest you can grow 6, maybe 7 plants up to a certain point. You may also note that these people disappear along the way. Everything is fine one minute, then boom no more pic's and we don't hear from them again. A one gallon container is really only big enough for one small plant. To put in 6 or 7 from seed is just plain crazy.

here are the ladies

delialah, grace, and nickie the lobster queen

aside from fungus gnats no problem, they were quickly killed off with thuricide that for some reason makes the water "sudsy" very light foam. the plants are great and happy!!!

we have tried grace and delilah and their tricomes need to turn to amber but they still do the trick!!!

So it's been 26 days, and my girls are doing great. I decided to go to 12/12 light cycles a couple of days ago just based on reading some of the threads on here.

I still have six plants in the AG, but two of them are really just tiny sprouts. The two biggest plants have about 6 leaf nodes each, and the other two have 4 or 5. I actually haven't looked at them yet today because the lights are still out, but I have some pics from a couple of days ago (8/19).

I originally bought the AG with a 36 day "free" trial, and it's coming up on the time when I have to start making payments on it. It is actually performing pretty well, and I have been learning a lot over the last few weeks of the grow. I am thinking that I will probably send the AG back and build something myself to move the plants into.

The main reason for this is that even though the AG is a pretty good little machine, it doesn't really use aeroponics, it is actually a top-drip system with two small CFLs. The way I see it I can build my own top drip system with a larger resevoir for more plants, and still pay much less than $150 for the AG, plus I have already had to add extra lights and an airstone anyway, so I'm halfway there.

This site (and others) have plenty of DIY instructions for systems that are very similar to the AG but much much cheaper. The trickiest part of the whole thing is going to be getting the girls out of the AG because the roots are really tangled up. I am definately going to have to cut or damage the roots a bit to get them out of the AG. Is this going to be a major issue?

Congratulations! Very Nice!

One plant maybe two is the best for the aerogarden... I've never used an airstone for my aerogarden grows but i'm sure it can't hurt...I'm glad to see people having success with this machine, my main purpose in starting this thread was to give Noob growers a place to start thats easy and convienent... Anyways Thanks to everyone that has helped the other Noob aerogarden growers especially you skunk...I would post more often but I get discouraged answering the same questions and a lil nervous to as well...This machine is a way to get people into growing and the knowledge obtained from one grow is amazing...Once you grow once you can grow forever in just about any style (soil/hydro)...My hope is that everyone that smokes will learn to grow and grow on their own, it would be awesome....There are also so many different ways you could grow in the aerogarden (topping or not topping, tieing down or not, cloning, etc...) Thats why I believe this machine gives people a base or foundation to start learning the ways of the grow and for their knowledge to blossom like the buds of a plant....

Peace
Love you all

Hey everybody. I have a question about lighting and flowering....

Right now I have my AG set on herbs/basil and its running off of that pre-set timer. I was wondering with the 12/12 how people are flowering in the AG. My assumption is to get a timer and (when ready) do 12/12. But will that interfere with the built-in timer??

If anyone has flowered with the AG I could use some tips.

Thanks!!!

Hey,

I can't speak about flowering, since I am only on day #3 or so of flowering, but as far as the timer, the best thing to do is to get a separate cord for the light fixture on the AG. The part that plugs into the light hood is a pretty standard figure 8 shape that you can get cheap at radio shack. I actually had a cord that fit already from an old camcorder charger.

Just unplug the light hood from the base, attach the new cord, and plug that into your timer. This way the timer will turn the lights on and off, but not affect the water pump at all.

The only advice I can give other than that is to get additional lighting, the AG lights just are not very strong, plus they lack the red-light wavelengths that are important for flowering. I just added some cheap CFL side lights.

I also got an aquarium air pump with an airstone, and stuck the stone in the resevoir of the AG, which seemed to make my plants very happy.

needs:

figure 8 power connector polarized (two prong)
wall timer set at noon and midnight
"salad greens" setting for 24/7 drip
run the figure 8 from the timer to the hood
this is good because you WILL need to raise your hood, past the highest setting. How high depends on how long you veg, or the strain.

pics are day 84 from seed week 5 flowering
