The big LED question...

First of all LED is better than HPS.
Second, you dont want Blrupe you want COB based fixtures ( CXB or Vero or Citi)
As for bud production, LEDS do it better. Not opinion, fact at this point.
I see gets pulling 1.5 GPW and even newbies pulling 1.2GPW with COB fixtures.
Blruple fixtures work fine, but are not worth it at the current state of LED.
@CobKits @Rahz @robincnn chime in about COB lighting and why its better than the burple fixtures thata re so popular with newer LED growers.

I highly recommend one of the COB advertisers here, you wont get better lights for the money
( no order at all)
Tast LED
Northern
Timber
Cob Kits if your into DIY
PLC

I do suggest you do a bit of reading here in the LED section on COBS.

So basically your saying a 400watt cob makes 600grams easy? And yet there is a guy on the first page with a 165 true watt cob (220 led watts) that cant even pull 1gram per watt. Does he suck balls at growing even though he won a comp with it, or are you talking rubbish? There is some confliction here and it aint the hps guys who are confused.

From what i have been reading... 1 gpw for COB in soil is the standard. 1.5 gpw for COB in hydro.

Strain dependant of course.

Better numbers are quite possible with better skill. And some better growers on this site have demonstrated that, i believe.

I meant more penetration into the canopy, hps grows big tall plants, leds look weak here.
https://www.rollitup.org/t/sixstrings-cob-build.903026/

Ah so what your saying is (apart from the personal attacks and my lack of intelligence, im dyslexic you know, there is a difference) that an led unit now out grows an hps on the same electricity
What personal attack? If you don't understand something, that is fine.. But your talking crap about what you don't understand.. There is nothing personal about telling you to educate yourself on the subject under discussion.. We are all here to learn.. So ask questions and learn but stop bashing technology you don't understand..It's counterproductive

So to equal a hps in yeild i will need a minimun of the same wattage in led and a slightyl different grow style.

I understand led just fine but i dont understand the claims your making. If led were that great there would be no market for hps and it would die along with all the other useless grow gear over the years.

Secondly i am on a site with some awesome growers who over the years i have come to respect, when they start saying led out yeilds hps then i am an led grower but up to this exact point in time ive not heard them even come close to saying this.

The debate is over when the truth is well know, at the moment it is just speculation.

You have not run COB or good LED have you?
LED and COB beats HPS watt for watt regardless of medium.
There are tons of grow jounrlas around here.
To get more specific, COB products more Umol ( Par) per watt than HPS, which then increases growth and yield.
HPS is dead at this point. Still good at growing but no where near the growing power of LED and COB's.
If you have not noticed, most of the large growers here have switched from HPS to COB and there is good reason for this.
Your statement is just untrue.
If you have a LED at 1000w and a HPS at 1000w your LED will outyield the HPS by 50% or more given grower experience and genetics.
My LED buds were much denser and much more resinous.
Dont take my word for it have a look at the many threads regarding yields, umol and ppfd in regards to COBs.
HPS were great while they lasted, but we now are at the point where LED is kind.
Years ago LED was more hype than useful, but now its KING. I will never go back to HPS.

PAR and PPFD as well as efficiency and efficacy as the most important in choosing a grow light.
Wattage is irrelevant. Spread is also a concer which you get much better spread and uniformity with COB and LED.
If you dont know what any of this is, do some research here in the LED section.
SupraSPL as well as robincnn and Rahz have some very good data regarding COB.
Really hope you look into it. Dont buy a blurple fixture, save your money for better things.

If you don't understand par you don't understand led.. please go back to the other site with you're uneducated friends! If you read more and write less you can become educated!

Another personal attack again, par isnt the be all and end all, green light will grow some good dank with enough of it and full spectrum beats just photosynthetic par in my eyes. Quoting par is a feeble exscuse for a subject that again is probably as large as most!

Agreed, he is missing the part where newbies and others just have not caught on nor do they udnerstand the terms being used.
They go spend there 3k on 1 blackdog...
HPS is still in use because COB commercial fixtures are just starting to pickup.
This is a forum for people who are willing to learn, not brush off obvious facts.
What he is also saying is the he is not a leader but a follower.
Sounds like he does not even grow at all. LED has been mainstream for a long time now, even the blurple fixtures were better than HPS, now the COBS are just HPS killers.
Not assumption, pure fact LED beats hps by 0% or more give or take grower experience and genetics.

Wattage is important as thats what determines the cost of the yeild, if i have to pay for twice the wattage i have to fork out double on my electricity bill. Wattage and yeild are my yard stick.

Did you just say that?
You do realize the spectrum is what PAR is right?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photosynthetically_active_radiation

PAR is the end all of photosynthesis... without it your plants dont grow.
Do your research before you start spewing out incorrect information.
Higher the PAR and more uniform PPFD means faster growth and better yields.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photosynthetically_active_radiation#Yield_photon_flux

So again, read then think then comment.

Like I said above.
1k of HPS and 1k of LED = 50% more yeild.
What i am saying is for the same power consumption your yield will significantly increase. LED pays for itself in first grow.
1000 Grams HPS 1500 Grams LED, denser, more resinous. Case closed.

Look par is not the be all and end all, lumens combined with par is way more important than par itself. Like full spectrum vs thos ebluple lights, youd expect bluple to kick full spectrums ass but is simply dosent. Again par is more than you guys make out and your personal attacks are fast getting boring and it seems like it is you who are the uneducated because you have very little understanding of par past what is written on the led hype sites, FACT!

So now leds outgrow hps by half as much again?

Its official you dont know anything.
lumens really? Lumens is a measurement of how bright a light is to the HUMAN EYE. Its irelivant in plant growth.
WOW, made my day just there. L O L
Please do some real research.
I have done tests like MANY MANY MANY other here on HPS vs COB as well as the PAR and PPFD. 1.5 GPW is average. Ive seen more and Ive seen less from new growers.

You have no idea what PAR is nor do you udnerstand what full spectrum is in nonometers.
You use the word lumens as if it has anything to do with plants. It does not. That proves your incompetence on this subject. Dont know of your a newbie or just some guy stiuck in the past refusing to learn.
Who knows, but what we all know is that you are wrong and dont understand what your saying.
Read a Botany book.
( no harm intended other than to educate)

Par is covered in lumens, it is a measurement of light!
