cool, someone made comparsions years ago and i think he found a diff. of about 5% between the different colors.

do you think thats strain related? indica/sativa
Sativa may like more blue light?

To what i remember, i liked the resin production of cxb3590 with 3500k compared to lm301b 3000k,
while the 620nm peak and the more in lumes of the lm301b giving way more bulk.

Hey guys,

I’m debating on what K rating to get for a 6 x qb288 set up in a 4x4.I plan on building a custom aluminum frame to evenly spread the light out over the 4x4. Ive talked to both KB and Meijiu but I have not talked to Bava yet. My main question would be for a flower only tent would you guys recommend 3000k with the 660 cree xp2’s then add in blues/deep far reds and UV on separate strips? Or maybe a combination of 3000k and 3500k boards? Looking for the best flower set up as my veg tent is a 2x4 with a 240 QB288 4000k. Any input would help a bunch.

basically the gneral trend is going for a low kelvin temp. for flower
3000k with 660 cree for flower should work out nicely.
2700k 90 cri is also heavily recommended here by rocket, but think there is no lm301b based version avaiable from the chinese guys.
And while it make sense spectrum wise you need to take in to account that the base phosphor of white leds is blue and conversion is always lossy.

Even if i think the cxb3590 did more resin, same strain, it could be easily something else causing this.

For flower only, id rec 90 cri whites; 3000k or 2700k, not too fussy. Depends on what else you add later; if your adding a lot of red then go 3000k. The 90 cri chips have more red and far red, and the main intensity peak 630 is pretty much perfectly matched to peak photosynthetic efficiency. I think you may be able to get 3000k 90 cri lm301b from KB, at least they had them a while ago. Invisible sun led also have 90cri lm301h but they tend to sell out super quick.
Though you can get similar effects by adding some reds to your build. But then why spend extra to add reds when you can have them in your base white spectrum?

Im also in the camp of adding reds/blue/uv using strips rather than building them into the board. One channel for reds, one for far reds and one for blues/UV.

Thanks for the responses. Yeah I asked both Meijiu and KB about the 90 cri lm301b and they both said only 80 cri are available. I figured at worst buying a qb with the added cree xp2’s would be clooosish to 90 cri. Then I’d add custom blue, IR and uv strips along the aluminum angle stock that I’m using as my framing.

And as you guys mentioned having them on separate channels especially in case they blown at random. I’ve read about Meijiu’s recent reliability issues which is why I’d want separate channels.

you will be fine with 3000k 80cri, lots here using this with very good results.
Mr. Cree would like the 3000/80 also.

And here ais the bridgelux eb3 spectrum, which is quite similar to the lm301b.
Compared to older 80cri gens, like the CXB3590, the recent gen have more red then before.

You also get more lumens, which compensates a bit also, so add some 660nm red and be fine.
Into doing alomost the same, strip build with some custom red strips and a few reptile lights, will see if can post some build pics.

regarding reliability, have some halway broken china boards too, they dont "blow" normally, a few diodes may get dim or out, thats it.
.....normally,..... but led tech isnt the unsafest.

I’ve contemplated going the qb96 route from hlg. I read the whole smack down thread from Or_Gro. Very compelling stuff from both sides. To me the stage that horticulture LED’s are at is strikingly familiar to when I bought my first Pentium processer desktop. I splurged and went with the MMX technology cause it was suppose to be the shiiiit. Yeah then Pentium 2 came out like 3 months later and I felt like a jack ass.

I get the feeling that LED’s have somewhat reached a peak in terms of spectrum innovation and now the only improvements are found in power efficiencies. I may be totally wrong but is it safe to say we’re not going to see an insane leap in diode technology in the next couple years?

The one i buy as a Samsung LM301B LED not water proof lol I dont foliar my led !
And its way cheaper 4 unit 700$canadien ship

They don’t seem as open as I thought they would be with bargaining the price as I know most of retail China is. They give a discount if you order multiple units but that’s all I’ve found unfortunately.

I pay full price for my hlg 550 v2 480watts

Now i pay half that price and i get 960 watts
Of the same Samsung LM301B LED with better heatsink and better lum/watts i am very happy now i just need to receive those and set them up .

i bought all my cree cxb3590 chips from kingbrite over the last three years.i just bought two of the three board quantum lights running 320 watts .i have not had a failure yet .

Thats what you would hope for with the slightly higher price compared to their unreviewed competition. Tough call though in the end, only they know lol. There could be a company on there that has killer qb’s at a low price but since nobody that frequents forums has purchased or reviewed them, well never know.

Thanks for the help! it is all very confusing with alot of conflicting anecdotal evidence. Looks like i'm going to be spending more time researching before i pull the trigger.

Thoughts on this kit? Description seems sloppy, not sure if the lights will be the same. Quoted 220 incl shipping...
