I'm guessing that in the small container the peat puck is holding too much moisture and you are beginning to get stem rot (I repeat this is just a guess). Do you have a hole in the cup? It looks like it is getting too much water. There has to be a layer that is not soaking wet in order for the plant to thrive. Try letting the medium dry out a little bit and then water away from the peat cup. A repot might do some good.

Definitely looks like too much water, like pete said. Other than that, looks good. Hopefully you at least tried to get what you could off the roots? Havin a little soil or peat wont matter, but too much could lead to root rot, because part of the glory of the hempy is how each water is basically a flush, and the perlite holds enough moisture for a day or 2. But if you have a bunch of peat in there, those things can get soggy, and definitely could cause root rot in a hempy. But looks good man, keep it going.

I put this plant into the hempy cup after I grew it in a peat puck for about 5 days? It's not looking too good...I am feeding with water soluble nutes at 1/4 strength twice daily to keep the water fresh, is it just time to get bigger or what???

Edit: When I transplanted the roots almost reached the bottom of the cup...1 long big root that was like 1 cm in diameter
Maybe over watering isn't clear.

WHY WATER TWICE A DAY? It is every other day atleast. I like to be able to water every 3 days, if not it's inconvenient and I wouldn't go with the method. But once a day when they are young I'll wet till overflow to make sure. And it's usally not much cause there is not much plant there.

Kinda depends on where you live. I use 100% perlite, and usually im fighting to stay in the low/mid 80's. I usually water almost every day. I know I'm not overwatering cause I'm smart enough to tell the symptoms, and I also can just check the res... if any spills out, I'll add just a dash that day. Don't get me wrong, plenty of times I'll wait a day, but I could water every day if I wanted to. Although right now it's in a 44oz cup, and will soon be in a 1 gal pot or w/e, so my waterings may change.

not sure what you guys are doing but I can water every 2 days and I am using 16 oz containers, watering twice a day is way too much IMO, you are drowning your plant

If you check my journal, I have Hempys same temps. But I water my way. Same everything. I don't know how big in the 44 OZ. but I have a 16 incher maybe in an Arizona 1 gallon. and she could get filled every 2, but I'll let it go to 3. I just keep an eye on everything.

Just like home alone, I left the hempy's alone for a few days and they turned out alright. I tried the method that I was thinking and Ian confirmed. Put the hempys into a large rubbermaid with coiled up air line with hoses poked every few inches in the bottom. Filled with water about 1" above the drain hole (a bit excessive for just 6 days) and voila! Everything looks the same or better as what I left it. There is a little bit of mold here and there from the high humidity, but that shouldn't be a problem to get rid of as things are just in the seedling stage now.

Anyway, I had trouble finding a proven method to do this and it turns out that it works so tell all your friends.

No I havn't, I need to build a small veg box, so I can keep on vegin moms and clones and then I am going into flower. I want to establish my grow and then keep it perpetual.

My only method to do a perpetual is hempy. Do you use your hempys all around or do you have other methods you use? I like the DWC, but they take to much space.

And the money it takes to make a DWC Bubbler tank. Will make like 20 hempys, lol. And you don't have portability in the tanks.

The only benefits I seen from doing DWC vs. Hempy was that if you had to go away for a week you weren't hosed, although I have now found that you can water culture your hempy to keep it going if it will be more than a few days. Also, no root porn, and as a scientist I like to be able to see what the roots are doing. You are right though: the space, cost, and portability are all big cons of the DWC method.

That one pro, means so much. I am away from my grow right now, and hempys drying out are my biggest worry. But I hope that they will last the weekend. Next time I leave I will find a deep tray to sit them in. To water culture them, but I love full automation. Drip irrigation can work aswell, but leaves more to figure, more to break. It's the simplicity of the Hempy that makes it a hempy.

Everyone seems to be worried about this, but I've had no problems leaving it for several days at a time. I'm only able to check up on my grow once a week. Even still, I only water when I see them, and they are fine for an entire week. Hempy ended up being sweeter than I thought.

IMHO, when you mix up your buckets, you should pan for your life style, if you are going to be around to check on them everyday then 100% perlite works fine, if you need to be able to leave them alone for longer, then add something else to your mix that holds more moisture, my mix is a 4 to 1 mix pertlite and peat moss, using 16oz containers I can go 3 days with no watering and stretch it to 4 if I dont mind seeing them look a bit thirsty, as a rule I water every other day since i have time......

The vermiculite seems to hold water better too, and I am actually running a test mix of 4 parts coarse vermiculite, 1 part perlite, and 1 part silica stone (which actually holds moisture pretty well itself), and this mix never dries out. I'm actually starting to worry that it will hold moisture too well and drown the plants, but so far of the 4 plants I have in this mix the two that weren't messed up coming out of germination are thriving and the other two were messed up right from the get-go and I'm just hanging on to them as long as they show some signs of life.

The time between waterings can depend on a LOT of things. Media perlite/hydroton retains next to nothing, vermiculite and rockwool a ton. Plus size of plant factors in.

I'm finishing up a real nice bucket (good for automation too) Should have pics etc up in a few days. (lazy stoner)

What media you using? 1 week waterings is what I'm used to that with 4 or 5 gal in soil. A week between sounds nice, but also afraid a bit with the roots sitting for close to a week in non aerated water at room temp.
