hey guys.. was wondering whats your best tips to help increase size and yield of the plant...
currently my plants are 3weeks old 18inch tall and 20inch wide...all nice and healthy...but looking for any advice on how to get the best out of them.

like when should i put them onto flowering? i heard the earlyer you flower them the more yield you will get..but i thought i would ask u guys for the best tips on increasing mass.

You could top them. This consists of pinching off the new leaves growing from the very top. Only do it once. After you top a plant, it will grow 2 tops where there was 1. Your plant is 18 inches tall now... so after your new tops grow out a little bit, you can begin 12/12.

Whoever told you that "the earlier you flower, the higher the yield" was full of it. You want the plant to grow for a while before flowering. Your plant (being 18 inches) has grown enough to start the flowering phase.

Let me ask you this, if you start flowering "earlier" do you truly think that the yield will increase? It's not going to. Period. The longer you veg the plant the more preflower mass there will be. Hence the more Flowered mass will be able to occur. If you have the light, the time, and the nutes, and patience to veg for long periods it will increase your mass in the end. Also adding carbohydrates towards the end of the cycle will contribute to mass gains. Treat your babies well and they will reward you in the end.

Using CO2 is pretty advanced for most starting growers if you do it properly. It's is pretty expensive also to buy/rent tanks and get regulators and timers and such. Just grow the plants with enough nutes and light first. Unless you're some uber grower with a ton of room and a lot of disposable income.

thanx for the tips... i may consider the topping..and i will deffo looking into the C02..
dont some people just put it in a bottle with a little slit at the top and shake it every couple hours to release it? or is that another 1 chattin it :) .

Can someone explain the fermentation method to me im really curious now?
So what has really worked for me is using a gallon milk jug or the like, sterilize it and keep the lid. Get a small piece of clear tubing like 6" long and like 1/4 diameter. Cut the same size hole in the lid and hot glue or melt the tube into the lid. Fill the jug halfway with water, the add a pakage of dry active yeast. Add 2 cups sugar and shake the shit outta that thing. In a couple hours you will see it foaming. The yeast and sugar is fermenting and creating co2. Replace the lid and put in your grow room. Get a glass of water and place the end of the tubing inside it. When bubbles come out you know its working. Give it a good shake every couple days and if the mix starts to look reddish add more sugar..up to 2 cups. You will need to replace the mixture every 2 to 3 weeks.
Good luck!!

Wannabe Grower is exactly right. Way too many growers, especially newbies tend to want to flower way too quickly. You want to veg for quite some time to promote branching, hence, more flower sites. Another effective way to increase yield is some light LST. If you are a beginner, the paper clip method seems to be one of the easiest ways to train plants during the veg stage. Remember to be gentle as to not hurt the plants. Take your time in the grow cycle, do not rush things, it is worth the wait. :)

What the first guy said is right, although i generally gauge it by waiting for the plants to reach sexual maturity. As in the plants showing preflowers before going onto 12/12. I tend to fim my girls as well. Keeps a low profile. Tends to take 2 months for a plant to show sexual maturity from seed. This is also the time that a potential mother plant is ready for cloning. Thus clones can be used in a sog senario maximising production. My 2 cents!

Always keep your lights close to the plant tops, all the way through the grow.use advanced nutes.also never do too many plants in the area that you are growing in, unless you are flowering rely small.Sometimes less is more.also use the best light that you can afford when i say this i mean hps lighting 600/1000,you will find that a 600 is more economicale. The lights, and the height of the lights and the nutes are the main factor in the growing of big yeilds. The use of a cool tube or even better a cool hood will also increase yeild because this allows you to have the light closer to the plant tops, also learn how to use a ppm or ec meter once you have mastered these few things your yeild will increase no ends............................................................tyke

Thanks for that - I'm wondering about the tube and glass of water - do I need to worry about tube length or the placement of the glass in relation to the gallon jug? (i.e. is it like siphoning fluid where the receiving container has to be lower than the dispensing one?) Or is this just so you have some visual on whether it's working?

its so if get any leakage of the fermenting liquor it doesnt invite mould to grow.

The best tip i can give you is perfect your growing environment , stable temps along with plentiful light and enough air exchange, mix this with some training techniques LST, TOPPING , FIMMING etc and yields will increase.

Co2 injection is almost pointless if you dont have a sealed room with AC etc.

I've found that unless you're running a sealed room, adding CO2 will not make any difference. To get the most out of CO2, you must be able to maintain the concentration. Plants tend to become dependant on the higher concentrations. Unless you maintain the high ppm levels, when the concentration drops back to ambiant levels (like during the exhaust cycle), the slowed growth offsets any gains made during the higher concentration times.

Get you light and atmoshphere right. Maintain a consistant canopy. Don't lose half the crop to powdery mildew. Do these things and what has been recommended above and you'll be pleased with your yield. Keep it simple and consistant.

vinegar and baking soda mixed causes reaction which releases Co2 as part of the gasses emitted into air some hydrogen too.

All these people banging on about co2 and no mention of the fundimentals. Precisely it jondamon.
