Think about it like snipping the tip off a cigar before smoking it, that's the process as I understand it. I think the idea being similar to veg topping, you force hormones to develop lower growth sites (on the cola) rather than the highest one. I tried it once after seeing a video as well, and the "topped" bud was maybe 20-25% heavier in the end, but I considered the result anecdotal since there is no real way to know what they would have done if left alone.

Height wasn't really an issue since its in an open room but basically it slowed vertical growth didn't completely stop it to where it didn't get taller at all but did slow it down, and just made the buds fatter. The lower buds seemed to become a little more dense as well on those branches. I too super crop during the stretch as well depending on how the plants growing. I like short wide bushed plants. I also trim around the end of stretch into the third week of flower. Seems to help most of the buds below the colas to get a little more Light and I feel the plant can breath a lot better so to speak lol with good circulation.
Nice. I wish I had more space to play around with techniques like this. So I could do one plant by the book and another with different methods and compare the results, get lab work done...a fancy science dream.
Ya right now since I have the room And good enough plants to mess with, I decided what the hell. Two colas wouldn't hurt. I have 27 main branches on this one lol. Come of my other plants I trained differently since I'm working with 6 strains. Seeing which works best. Will def keep updates going. Last time I grew this strain it went hermi on me so I wouldn't be surprised if it did it again this time around. I wish I was in a different place so I could do it differently and be able to send in for lab results.

@andy s If the video was found online would you be willing to share the link? I have heard about this technique in discussions with people in my area, but no one that I know has every tried it. Will definitely be following this post and hope you continue to update. Will be interesting to see end results!

Also, I have to give you credit for your willingness to experiment with something new and against the norm. Hope it works out well for you. As the old saying goes, you don't know unless you try!
Hey thanks man! Always gotta try different things if you have the opportunity to. I don't get the greatest results and the highest yields but one day I'll get there. So far I'm happy lol. I will keep things updated as much as I can.

Nicely put. My thoughts exactly.

Forgot to add I will search for the video again and see if I can't find it. Since its been on my mind I've been looking and can't seem to find it anywhere lol. I know it was on YouTube but can't remember the guy's name. He had a Scrog set up I remember that in the video.

Andy s greenhouse do it in one of there grow's hd ones, they say that it forces the bud's to fatten width wise. But to be honest if you are growing right ,with the right amount of light per plant then I see no need to,what in my eyes means that the plant will put effort into repairing any damage,it sees done to it.I would much rather let her be,and put all that effort into producing fat nugs without topping ,all topping should be done during veg,or no later than 2 week into flowering.

If you check the greenhouse seeds hd out,you will find it ,I think it may be on a plant like a haze, one that gets a tad whispy in early flowering, like arjons haze's or the nevilles might be worth a look for you.

Good luck dude

I like them when you know you have pushed them to there limits ,and they start stacking crowning .be interesting to see what happens,

Me too,it's the way jha designed the buds to be,when he sat down at the creation drawing board
Cool thanks Im gonna look that up Bc I couldn't find it (the video) anywhere. But if we all followed how the plants are supposed to look and what we all do with and to them, we wouldn't be where we are today. We wouldn't know what topping or femming is, super cropping lst training what have you, none of that would be in existence. Heck even all these nutrient lines wouldn't exist. We'd be planting outside in the dirt as they should be grown or were originally grown.

But I like my pointys:bigjoint:View attachment 3675571 watching closely for your results though, I'm willing to try anything once as long as there is proof of concept:peace:
That how I feel lol, I watched his video, chose two branches to try it out on and have two similar in size left untouched. If it works it works if not at least I know with this strain not to do so lol. Only time will tell :). Most trichs were pretty cloudy some turning Amber but a shit ton of white pistols. This strain finished with white pistols last time I harvested it and had about 25-30% Amber

Hey Andy, I don't top my buds. I also think there are other things you can do to maximize yields. Looking at your pics, you have some room for improvement.

This is an interesting topic. I've got major height issues in my tent right now. Various strains, various growing mediums, various 12/12 start times.
Trying to figure out how to manage it, or just let them fight it out. FML

Get familiar with your strains and train them before going into flower. If they are too tall you can supercrop or lst now to help out a little.

If you got a lot of space you don't have a problem.

My poor 2x2 had three different plants that were in different stages of veg when I switched them over. Now one has taken over the tent and is cover a good 1/3 of the space and over shadowing the other plants.

Control them while you can they turn into monsters sometimes.
