to cool them. you have to ventilate the lights, and you have to ventilate the room. its either run it like that, or run two separate systems in the same space
I run 1 ks wide open no cooling needed, long as room is maintained an blowing thur lights is not the way to go I can c pulling thur lights in a sealed set up.like I said I must be missing somethingbongsmilie

How are you maintaining your room temps? How are you exchanging air in your room?

I don't no seems u could hard pipe straight out fan-filter in same place, why blow thur lights at all?
The way I drew the diagram Im filtering smell, force exchanging the entire rooms air, controlling temps, cooling hoods and exhausting all in 1 action....and all with 1 fan that only kicks on when it needs to.

Well now I am trying to figure out the best way to hang my lighting, and from what and from where. Thought about just using a 2x4 across the celing with concrete screws anchoring it in, then screwing heavy duty eye hooks into the 2x4s.. But those damn hoods are tall and bulky and I need to figure out a way to hang them without using the hooks that they usually hang from that' attached from the string to the top of the the hood, that alone takes up 4 to 6 inches of usable space.

Anyone have any ideas?

not good at drawing shit upbongsmilie just don't c reason to duct those lights up just maintain room, hardpipe the fan-filter so its pulling from back corner straight out, if u plan on running in summer with ac then duct it all up, but pull don't push inlines pull lot better than push.glad I don't have to run filters anymore all legal, but ya I run 1ks with same headspace u have ,I don't like to bend over tending any more lol

if you dont mind drilling the hoods you can tap holes in them and screw your hoods right to the ceiling ( using washers in the hood )

This is an excellent idea, but would really like to find a way to do this as close as possible where the hoods are still adjustable to the canopy of the plants.

Any more ideas?

I have always grown short plants anyway thumper.. I am used to having minimum headspace, topping, LST... Back pain through the entire process.. I have been growing short bushy plants for as long as I can remember, I have grown several pure landrace sativas with insane vine like growth shooting to the lights an inch per day or more and never had any problems.

I just want to make sure I have as much headspace as possible is reason I am asking. 4 inches is a lot in my book.

Im no help on the controller, but how can you use the 120V ballast cords as 240? They arent the same gauge wire and the plug ends are completely different?
What kind of ballasts are you using? Ususally on the magnetic ballasts, there are 2 plug openings -one for each rated voltage input (120/240). They make a totally different plug for the 240V.
Hey Red, I found this on the Titan Controls website...

This dudes question was why when he plugged in his 120v T5 lights into the universal outlets they would dim a bit and then shut off. This is because the T5 lights are not rated for 240v but for 120v only. In my case however, my digital ballasts are rated 120/240v both.

Check this out...

"I bought a Helios 8 and wired it with 220 volt power like it says, and when I plug my 120 Volt T5 light fixture in they die because they're getting 220 volt power... Why does it say the outlets are universal? What do i need to do to fix it? Drop one leg and make it 120v?

A: The Helios 8 lighting controller is intended for use with 240 Volt lighting systems. The universal plugs are designed so that the customer may use either a 120 Volt or 240 Volt cord sets to plug in their 240 Volt lighting system. A number of the lighting ballast manufacturers only include 120 Volt plug sets with their 120VAC/240VAC 'switchable power' ballasts, so this feature is primarily to accommodate that need for those customers. The voltage that you install your lighting controller with, is the voltage that will come out of your lighting controller (240 Volt in...240 Volt out). It is recommended that you consult with a Certified Electrician prior to installation of your lighting system. They can help you out with your lighting questions, as well as assure that the customer has a properly installed, safe lighting system for their garden."

So from what I am understanding here is yes, as long as your ballast is approved for 120/240 volt operation, then you can use the 120v plug that comes with most digital ballasts and it will power everything at 240v... Hell yeah! These light controllers are straight bad ass!

Lookin' good Thumper.

I have no problem keeping them under low head space and vegging short plants... I am right with you on that bro. For example, this is a few pics I found of of a grow I ran in a 4x4 with just a 6 foot celing. They were vegged for a month and stayed under a foot tall till the day they were flipped with at least 8 to 10 nodes. They are short and bushy as hell. As you can see in these photos they went from the 10 inch veg to the 2 to 4 foot monsters and kept just 8 to 10 inches from the 1000 watt light they bathed beneath...

I yielded almost 2 pounds out of this particular seed run. These pictures are just a hair past mid flower, wish like hell I had some pics when they were ready to harvest because they doubled in size from what you see. I do however have a finished photo of the Northern Lights #5 I found in a NL Sensi seed run, got lucky on her she was a keeper for sure!

Key is topping and LST during veg. But the biggest factor I have learned in keeping them short and bushy like the photos show is the lighting. Some of those were not trained at all nor topped. Just natural. Keeping a good fluorescent light right on the tips of the leaves less than an inch away on 24hr veg is what mostly gave me these short plants.

Enjoy!

I will have to throw up some more recent photos as these were from 2014, my second indoor grow ever. I have much improved since this grow and usually pull more like 2.2 lbs from a 1000 watt in a 4x4 so I'm excited to see how it will go in the large space I have now.

Here is a grow from last year. One tent is 600 watts the other is 1000 in these photos. The 600 watt tent is all Ace pure sativa strains and a couple Kali Mists. As you can see this is what I meant when I said I am used to growing pure landrace sativas with just 6 ft headspace haha. Those branches, the entire plant on that Zamaldelica ended up solid bud colas over 3 foot long! The Zamaldelica was in the 600 watt tent was thai dominant and it took 17 weeks to flower and could have went two more. Super potent trip your balls off smoke too btw! And 4 ounces off of her in a 2 gallon container. She never stopped the stretch either, grew literally like a damn kudzu vine...
