Week 8 since it was a seedling, male or female? or too early to tell?

Sorry to disappoint, but all hope is not lost...
If you're in an isolated area you can snip a branch off of that and put it in water then harvest some pollen to store for years, so next year you can start breeding your own strains... (BE VERY CAREFUL IF YOU HAVE PEOPLE IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD GROWING...DONT BE THAT ASSHOLE THAT SEEDS EVERYONES CROP...)

You could also try an auto for remainder of the year if you can get any without waiting for them to be ordered..
You'll cut it close but should have time to finish outdoors depending how quick the frost comes to you. You can also do one in a pot and bring it inside at night to protect it late season. The last call for autos where im at was probably last week or two... But you could easily swing that if you had access to anything right now (especially sprouted..But even if started from seed today)

Normally I used to grow photos always, this year I went heavy toward the feminized seeds, most of which got confiscated but the ones that made it have been a lot less stressful wondering if male/female. I've got 0 males this year (although half are fem.... GGs hopefully they wont herm on me) but would recommend getting some feminized for next year

Um... preflowers is how we tell before light cycle changes... Once plant is mature enough, they will sprout preflowers and you can 100% sex then.

To the OP.. What exactly were you calling a pistil? Im curious if you're mistaken the stipules for pistils which they are not, males and females have them.

If you can try to send some pictures way closer... like this close... and click the screen/focus if possible...

Im leaning toward male but I couldnt see the pics that well. I would still wait it out to be sure, you have plenty of time if they are male to stay on top of it and cull it when you're sure.

Best of luck my friend.
Closer pics just taken.

For female preflowers I look for a tear drop shape with pointed tip...
For male preflowers I look for a rounded top/ball like growths and they grow off of those small stalk/stem below the "ball"
Like so:

Yeah man Im leaning definitely toward male... Although I would still wait it out to be positive that its not just a small cluster/branch growing out... Which I dont think it really is, but could be... Last hope at least.

Sorry bro, check my last post though... This is good practice for patience, and many people say males suck, but they can be valuable... I wish I had one right now as I have no pollen left for breeding purposes.

Thanks for your input, ill keep this post updated with pics, im gonna continue until i have legit signs of it being a male or female. also have a question, the city recently installed led lighting street lamps in my neighborhood and it completely lights up my back yard a night, will this effect the plant growing? and should i move it to a spot where that its dark away from the light?

Dealing with the same thing here actually... They replaced a street light that has been broken for 10 years and its near my plot...

I was either going to cover that direction with more tarp/fence privacy fabric (You can see what I mean if you check out my grow in my sig) But I was actually going to look into this because last night I was outside after dark and with the moon being so bright, it was brighter than any other lights surrounding my house... I had been wondering how much is the "nolight leaks" thing really true, for outside plants at least...I've flowered plants that were about 150ft away from lantern/light posts and security lighting, and I think if the distance is far enough away the light will have lesser effect on the plants.. You can see the reverse when people use PAR meters to check LED grow light power and stuff, you can watch the meter drop as they move away from the light (this would make sense obviously since the light doesnt have unlimited power.. although not sure with photons being massless but this is way above my pay grade) But basically I think there is some leeway with outdoor plants basically needing a difference of light/dark times in veg/flower and even if there is more than 12 hours light, if its less than the veg light time by a certain amount the plant will start to flower...
Same thing with the amount of light during day... vs the difference of light at night.... Even if the light at night isnt completely dark, if its a big difference than the day, I think thats really whats needed (to an extent) to allow the plant to flower.

TLDR: Im not really sure, but basically Im trying to block any lights as well dealing with a streetlight too.. Although if the light is far enough away, I think you'll be fine. Ill let you know if I find out anything Im going to look into it further.

So, im still unsure of the plants sex, however a buddy of mine was saying you can turn a male plant female by cutting of fan leaves.. however i dont believe this, is there anything truth to that statement? if anything it would be both a male/female. ill take pictures tomorrow as an update.

so its official, 2 days go i found these nuggets on one of the branches. it is a male... FUDGE! but its a learning process, so now I do know what I am looking for next year.
Question, I did take a cutting over a month ago thats growing well in another pot, is there a chance that could be a female, or since its a cutting of this plant it will deff be a male?

100% genetic "clone"

Same as its parent. Will be male, same strain, same phenotype (characteristics expressed colors/smells/growth patterns/etc.)

But great way to look at it all as a learning experience... In the end it will make you a much better grower knowing the little subtle changes going on with your plants. Better luck next year, I would recommend investing in some feminized seeds if you want to almost guarantee having a chance to harvest something. Good luck brother. Cheers. :joint: :peace:

Oh totally man, its a great learning experience for myself. i was a little worried a few weeks back with the plant because we had a storm that came through with 85mph winds, i was shocked the plant was not stressed from it.
However i do have another question, i water this plant thursday morning, just water an entire gallon. I got home from work friday evening, that plant looked dead, the fan leaves were all drooping and sagging down. so i watered it again that evening and not even 5 minutes later, the leaves were back to normal. does a plant consume that much water in a days time or is it something else? some leave are turning yellow towards the bottom as well

can you direct me where I can buy feminized seeds?

It may have been hot on friday, it couldve been thirsty on thursday and the 1 gal you fed in the am wasnt enough, sometimes strains will become droopy as the sun goes down so be careful mistaking that for something wrong, not saying it was in this case because it sprung back up..

I wouldnt worry about the yellowing toward the bottom..

and to be frank with you, I really dont have much experience in growing out males, I always assume they are the same or close to females, But Im sure they have different requirements at different times, so I cant say for sure.

As for the feminized seeds, Depends where you live, your payment method and the types of seeds like indica sativa autofem etc. I cant really point you to one seed bank or the other, But I know plenty of people here will be able to and can point you in the right direction. Sorry homie. Cheers. :peace:
