What is the point in Auto Flowering Plants ?

well ,
If i veg a normal plant clone for 2 weeks and flower for 8 weeks = 10 weeks
They are not reasons.
That's if you veg a clone...not really a fair comparison, but considerable info for someone with the resources to keep a mother / get clones

Or you could just keep cloning the clones in veg. I keep a tableful (72) in flower, & a tableful in veg. When the ones vegging get big enough, I clone them so that when I harvest, the vegging plants move to the flower room and the cycle continues. And its absolutely a fair comparison. We're discusing the benefits of growing auto flowers, and the short times were brought up. No where did I read that this was a "from seed only" comparison. Growing out clones can be much shorter time wise if you flip 'em as soon as they are well rooted. Once you get the cycle dialed in, you can take down a harvest every 60 to 70 days depending on the strain. Granted, you need much more room and will have a much higher plant count, but again we're comparing times between harvests of autos vs other methods.
I DO think that there is merit to whats going on with them, and the added benefits will be for indoor growers as well, because if flowering were time dependent, we could eliminate the tell tale electric usage pattern of 12/12, a dead give away to LEO. The future looks pretty interesting indeed.

Fair enough. Good post

I don't see any point growing indoors with autos lol.
Well limited space and a nagging wife are a couple. ;)

Autos are perfect for personal stash if you smoke big and have limited time. I mean i could grow lots of phenos but i have grown some autos in less than 6 weeks and harvested a nice little supply to keep me going. I can basically gorw all year round non stop without the need for a big space.

And the weahter has been shit and we have only seen full summer sun in the last few weeks. Autos have been perfect in my small space to grow.

from seed 6-7 weeks? No way...autos need at least 2-3 weeks veg which leaves about a month to flower? That means full trichs and a bit of amber already?

Question.. What kind of lighting is needed to autos?

Hey clonex.

I haven't read all the pages.

But I grew 4 autos under 400w and got about 80g dry from each.

After having time off it gave me the opportunity to grow some smoke while I vegged a plant to clone.

Smoke was ok but not a patch on the photo varieties of similar strains.

IMO they're great for indoor if you need to veg a photo at the same time.

It meant I could veg and clone ready to switch to 12/12 with the clones once the autos had finished.

Hi Jondaman ,
hope your well ,

well i was ignorant about auto's , now , not so much...
which is good , because i would have spent more money trying to find out,
I'm still confused about why to bother though indoors, i have read what Jack wrote and i rate his opinion but,
I have not seen or read anything that can not be done indoors with 1 of my own normal pheno's,
just with less veg time , after all my bud sizes do not change , the plant just does not grow as tall or as wide,
The rotation and un uniformed light patterns is a thing of interest and i will be giving that alot more thought,
I guess i should do some more auto research but i have one of those heads that needs to be emptied of junk before i think about filling it with more,
Sometimes it even hurts =)

Lol.

Autos IMO are for those that either don't want the hassle of veg and flower periods or like me had a break.

60 day wonder was by far the strongest of 4 autos that I grew out.

I did
DINAFEM AUTO MOBY DICK, nice citrus flavour but not very potent
DINAFEM AUTO CHEESE, disappointing on flavour and potency
AUTO NORTHERN LIGHTS BLUE, really flavourful and a decent punch
60 day wonder, very potent ok flavour.

I understand completely your perspective on autos. I had and still have the same views of them. They're OK but you know me I don't like just OK. LOL.

Indoors they can be used to fill any extra space in a veg room, they can also be set in a sunny window and flower even if the house has erratic light schedules, outdoors they can give you more than one harvest per year, you could set them out every few weeks and have a perpetual harvest throughout the growing season.

They're awesome for new growers. Especialy if you're set up isnt as light proof as it needs to be for photo's. To each his own..

Maybe try a different strain? I tried a good few different auto strains and after i ran the WOS afghan kush ryder, i ran it 4 or 5 times with shit hot smoke everytime... If i plant more say 1-2 weeks before i the chop, i'll harvest 2 loads in 14 - 16 weeks. Try that with photo-period plants.
Heres some snaps from different grows
