When do flowers become bud?

I have just begun the forth week of flowering and have lots of flowers all over the plant. When do the the flowers become bud? The plant is a sativa mix, so I know it has a long flowering period. I have read the grow guides but don't really know what I am looking for. Do the white petals fall off - or fatten up or are they the parts that evenutually turn red/brown when the bud is ready? When should it begin to look like the bud?

I am sure you have had this question before but, having killed all my other plants, this is my last survior and I am desperate !

At the forth week it should already look like a bug. The flower is the bud. When its time to harvest you will trim the leaves off the flowers.

I was using HPS 250 but changed bulb to sodium. I read that it mimics the colour spectrum of fall sunshine and this makes it better for flowering. I have been using a closet but had now bought a grow tent, which I can move to an outbuilding.

looks good, all the white hairs will eventually kind of shrivel up and turn red. hence the lil red hairs u find in bud u buy ;) if u dont know the strain, when roughtly 70% of the hairs have gone red, means its ready to harvest! this is quite generic and it does really depend on the strain, but its something rough to go to

Looking good Ellie!

Your plants have a lot of white pistils, when 60-80% of those turn red or orangey/brown, you're at the stage of harvesting. You'll need to look closely at the Trichromes, and see what state they are at....

Look at the GrowFAQ at the top left and have a look at the info there, That will explain a bit more!

Happy growing! :weed:

70% of my hairs have turned and the trichs are still clear. Not ready...get a microscope in the next couple of weeks...and enjoy.

So am I...I think this is more luck than good guidance. I didn't realise how quickly you can move from veg to flowering and consequently had my plant outside for months! When the weather turned against me, I moved it inside. I veged it some more. It has several main branches (I trained them because when I moved it to artificial light it just exploded with growth). When I moved it to the 12/12 cycle I didn't realise that it would grow some more (a lot!). So I trained it some more. I have over watered, under watered and overfed it (till the leaves turned brown and crispy) and still it survived me. I still do not really know what I am doing, but it seems to be willing to flower despite me. I think I will do better next time and I am sure you will too. Good luck.
