i'm not sure peyote.. i know you can leave rep when you don't have much, it's just that the person you're leaving rep to won't get much, or any, rep points from that rep'er..

I know he soon will be able to "give rep" but like you said, until he has enough it won't actually boost my rep if he tried giving my some. i think you get 1/100th of the rep points the person rep'ing you has, so unless that person has over 100 rep points, you won't get any rep added to your score..
