Why do so many people struggle to grow auto flowers?

i know this is an old thread but for newbs reading it, maybe it will chill them out a bit about when to harvest vs OMG you have fucked up by cutting them way to early!

to all you folks who think there is a perfect time to cut your plants, it might be for you but it's not for others. before the internet hooked us all together to figure things out people were harvesting all over the place. trichs weren't even part of the discussion, and harvesting often came down to what the hairs were doing. then terps entered the discussion. yay terps.

as time went on, many were happiest when terps, which were mostly cloudy with some magical percent of amber was the perfect time to cut. it's an opinion and is not set in stone. it's not scientific, it's a place that after many threads, a lot of people have decided is a perfect time for them. the perfect high for them. so the best harvest time mentioned by the most of us, eventually became a rule of thumb.

over time anything other than this exact time was deemed wrong by some. bad. stupid... many folks used to insist that cutting before the trichs were 1/2 amber was the wrong time. some would cut very early when the trichs were all clear (i had a grow book way back when that stated that this was when thc was at its strongest. another book said to pull up the plant, roots and all, so the thc could flow from the roots to the buds). what gets you high might give me a tiny buzz or a headache. what gets me stoned might have you rolling another joint as you aren't there yet.

mostly cloudy is my favorite time to harvest and has been for decades. but a few days either way is meaningless. if you think you can tell the difference in highs from 90 days vs 87 days or 93 days, you are an exceptional stoner. like one of those wine genius'. to this day, i also harvest some if not all around 1/2 clear and 1/2 cloudy as that is also a great high, for me. a different high, but not a bad one by any means. it's not even close to the disaster some folks indicate that it definitely is. it's not an ok high, it's a great high and will keep you stoned until the end. this is just a different thought for some of the newer folks who can now grow legally instead of jumping every time someone rings the bell or knocks a bit too loudly!

try it sometime instead of convincing a bunch of newbs that cutting any earlier is a crime against nature and flies into the face of botanical science. test a bud or 2. does it get you feeling great? why not cut some or all of it down. i do.

damn near everything we know about growing weed comes from thousands of comments from people who were feeling their way around growing our favorite plant. experiments galore, different ideas, some goofy, some great.

the perfect time to harvest is when you test a few buds and shazam, minutes later you find yourself smiling, feeling all warm and fuzzy and wondering what you just watched or read for the last 10 minutes. my last live in GF didn't love what i grew, not stoney enough for her and her cousins. so if i had the time and space, i'd grow a few plants until they had a bunch of amber, she loved it. different strokes eh?

Most important thing to remember with autos is Don't transplant them start them off in the pot you're going to finish them in.
I always transplant all plants around 1 month old or something for bigger freshy pots and soils, depending on how the things are going, I do this for photos as for autos, never had any problem. And I guess there is no difference, autos are not that weak. I top them too. :-P

Telling people not to transplant autos is IMO solid advice, not doing so eliminates one possibility of stunting. Doesn't mean it's unequivocally correct, either. Having thought back, only ONE auto of the approximately six total that I've grown, wasn't transplanted, the other five were all started in solo cups, a couple of them topped while IN the solo cups before transplant, and NEVER in my experience ever caused a stunted plant. In fact i'm pretty sure the one direct-sown in a 3gal was my shortest auto plant grown to date.

I saw this too, i feel like i dont see ppl quick to be blunt/rude but informal like i see here which is the right advice to get on track or receive decent outcome.

its like maybe the culture is not the same there, like if they posted those journals here yall would jump to say what needs to be said which can be offensive to them at first (then it works and they turn around and start sharing that advice lol)

all in all this site rocks, would love to see more users as time progresses. i always get the info i need if questioned properly. and feedback too!

ty. nice read. not much for capitalization i c, but then who is nowadays.
I really appreciate RIU and the posters here who have really taught me a lot about
my fave plant. I never really grew any. I started some seeds w/o a grow light, and
i ventured with a guy in a hydro grow that failed due to his absence for a month.
so i never really did it, but i've sure learned a lot in RIU, thanks to you and members here. :bigjoint:
