Why is wilting so bad?

So I was reading in my plant bio book the other day and came across something I thought was sort of interesting. When the leaves on plants wilt due to lack of water, their stomata(little holes that allow C02/ water vapor/ 02 in/out) close down to prevent transpiration(water evaporation via leaves), which in turn effects photosynthesis. So if your leaves are wilting they aren't going to have maximum photosynthetic potential... anyways thought i'd share.
