Yet another watering question . . .

I'm an absentee land owner in that I have property about 45 mins from my home. I get out to the property every 10 days to 2 weeks. I have an orchard with 50 fruit trees that are on an irrigation system. I have the ability to run an irrigation line and place drip emitters for a grow. This would be electronically controlled and be on its own 'zone' much like your lawn system.

I plan on using an auger on my tractor to place a hole about 2-3' wide 2-4' deep and fill with some good soil similar to SubCool's recipe.

I also live in a HOT HUMID DROUGHT ridden area. . .

I know this is a tough question but I'm asking your best educated guess here . . .

On the average How much should I be watering during the hot months of June, July & August? 3-5 gallons of water EVERY night? 10 gallons every 5 days. Some one ballpark this for me so I can get it started and I will dial it in from there. I just don't know where a good starting point is. Obviously a young seedling needs a lot less than a plant in late August will thats been in the ground since June.

THANKS!

I have the hot part very low humidity plus drought. I water about a gal per plant every day then every 3rd or 4th day depending on if it's 100 degrees or 110 degrees I really soak the garden down 5 plus gals per plant plus I mist them real well to relieve heat stress and wash off the dust, did I mention the dust? If you have good drainage 3 gals of water a day on drip may be fine but if drainage is slow 3 gals a day may be excessive.

its impossible to guess water needs so many variables. its a hard ?

Once you get familiar with your plants you will be able to understand what they are telling you. The original poster won't see his plants everyday thus automatic irrigation so he needs ballpark figures for his watering needs. If you have daily access your plants will tell you if you're missing the watering mark.

i always give constant attn when working with drip as well to read the plants. all mediums drain different. all climates strains need different in my experience.

A good ballpark guesstimate is a gallon per foot of plant. Your soil mix, size of hole, rainfall amounts and wind will all effect how often you give it that gallon per foot. I like the once a week schedule, as there is no way I can get to mine more often that that.

How meny of the 5 gallon per hour drip emitters can you put on one system I would say that the 200 feet away from source
