Question about Area 51 models

I bought an A-51 XGS a few weeks ago. I had questions about the switches because mine has 2 switches/3 different intensities. Some forum posts mentioned only two settings and even the A-51 website only mentions two. So I wrote to A-51 and was told that the 2 switch/3 settings function is a brand new feature.

That would explain why Gaius only found two settings on his older model.
let me know how you go with your grow Mello.... Im interested in this model but reluctant about all white

I have your same model gains it has one switch. Plugged in the thing is on flipping the switch just adds in the reds for flower. So there is only two modes on our light. This is my first run with it and comparing to my 400 hps. Led is a little different I am finding with light distances farther away than you would think you should run. Cooler temps, less watering. So there is some fine tuning to dial in your grow like anything else. I just got a new BBQ, cooks different than my previous one. Took me a couple cook outs to get used to it. Figure same will apply with my led. I was thinking supplemental light isn't a bad idea as well I ran supplemental light with my hid too.

I bet A51 will come out with a new model soon, imo all white LEDs aren't the way to go you need more color than that my LED has 4 10w cree white spectrum chips and 48 6w chips all red or UV spectrum and this thing is beast for flowering.

in a few weeks

Where are you guys seeing A51 has a new light coming out soon? I looked all over their site and saw nothing other than the 160 and 190.

edit: Well besides a used 160 light and couple other Chinese lights they tested.

I'd like to hear about the new a51 coming out if anyone has a link with some info.
There are no links with any new info yet.
Eraserhead has shared a little info on the new lights with a few of us, but it'll be a little while before anything hits the A51 website.

Ok cool. Wasn't sure since someone mentioned it was on their site. Or I thought that's what I read. Hmmm.... Interested to see what is in the works. Thanks thought, at least I know I'm not an idiot and just missing something right in front of my face somehow. LOL

this is from an email that I got from Area 51

We have a new red/white model coming out in about a month, you might want to wait for it if you're not in a hurry.

Best Regards,
Jeff

Hmm good to know they have a new panel, was getting ready to pull the trigger on a xgs but wasnt sold on all ww. Not calling shenanigans or nothing but it seems odd they would play it close to the vest when releasing a new product, think they would wabt to hype that shit up.

They might be wanting to clear old stock first... I think their site said they are recieving new stock. IE the XGS so that will be shipped. maybe they want to clear that out... their site does state it has new models but you have to look for it.

Yes I must have the older model. Only 2 modes.

Not surprised at all about the upcoming A51 model having more red. The all white XGS-190 is a stellar vegger, but I wouldn't recommend it for flowering--at least not on its own. IMO you'd really need at least 2 of them to truly flower out a 3'x3', but even then I suspect you'll end up with airier buds.

Vegging with the XGS results in tight nodes, and enough penetration to get you through those first 18-20 inches of growth. I have tried the light at everywhere between 18-24", but 20" seems to be the ideal balance of coverage and intensity.

2 weeks after switching to 12/12 I noticed slower than usual bud development from my clones, so I decided to add in eight 4' bulbs of 2700K T5HO (~400w). Within a week of adding supplemental T5s, the clones more than doubled their growth rate and buds just exploded everywhere.

I'm hoping my new DIY COB panel will work slightly better at 3000K, since there is a significant increase red light.

Disclaimer: My test is only pseudo scientific. I am using clones from the same mother as my previous grow, and in identical conditions (other than light source). Since I have not done this with a larger N-population, I can only presume that results may vary.

Proof in the pudding: I started 2 clones under 2 ufo 90s that Jeff gifted me (3500 + 5000). Helios diodes. Once buds were set I added 3 x 4ft @3000K tubes ~ 54w

Will be pulling in a few days. Nuggz are rock hard.

Not as purdy as they should be. I made a mistake ~ 4 weeks ago and overdosed with Sea Crop minerals. The OD destroyed the primary leafs. I trimmed most, but you can see the damage on a few still there

A51 are LEDs made in china just like every other LED maker... if you want American made quality products go with Apachetech they are expensive as shit but definitely the best LED out there besides DIY

with a51 only the casing is made in china. Some of the crees might be made at a facility in china. They also have facilities in Cali. The rest of the light is made and assembled in the U.S.

apache. - Nichia leds are made in Japan.. The rest is made and assembled in the U.S.

if you bother to read the website they tell you exactly what is made where and admit to casing etc being made in China.

They have been nothing but upfront both in messaging and on their site in my opinion....

So My Question Is Which Led Is Mostly American?
Home-built drivers from scratch components with self-machined heatsinks and CREE diodes from the US plant. :)

While I'll agree that some of the Chinese LED companies are complete scams, I'd highly advise everyone to stop worrying so much about where the parts were made. There is good reason to avoid certain Chinese-made units (i.e. just about anything on Alibaba or Ebay), but not all Chinese parts are bad.

USA-made means virtually nothing anymore (maybe it did in the 1950s). Show me a 100% German or Japanese panel and I'd be more interested.

I remember reading somewhere that they are sub-par, re-branded Chinese panels. I could be wrong though... ...Memory isn't the greatest when medicated.

Jesus this is becoming a huge PIA to decide which LED I want to go with. Seems like every thread I read becomes a pissing match and that every LED is just a Chinese re-brand. I want to
make the switch from HID but the initial investment is huge, it appears if you want to get quality and something that really works.

The phrase "Really works" seems to be widely opinionated as well.
