Why not? I got a shitload of them yard lights. Take the glass out. Good for a closet and a single plant. But you will in time want something better.

Alright then. That lamp will buzz like hell. It is awkward and gets hot, unless you gut it. Like I said it is fine for a closet but thats it. You would be better off buying a few cfl's

btw I mentioned only one plant because to get the footprint big enough to cover more plants you would have to raise the lamp very high and anything over a foot in my books it too far away. This all changes if you gut it.

Got one in my pc grow (125w). Awesome light, doesnt run too hot either.
Id try and find a dual spectrum one if your ordering online

Agreed. The flood lights your referring to run super super hot. Its like a heat lamp. Not to mention the internal ballest gives off enought heat alone. I would stay away from these lights

yes, it runs the same lights and has a ballast just like the grow lights, difference is that this light wasn't designed to run inside. It means MEANT to get hot because it was never meant to go in a closet. IF you're going to run it (which you can, and it will work) then you should do a little work and remove the ballast and socket from the case it's in and install a new reflector. You'll also want to ventilate the hell out of whatever room you have it in.
And be insanely careful not to burn your house down.
Bottom line... Will it work? Yes. Should you use it? Probably not. It may be better to just go with CFL's, or just drop 200$ on a proper HID with digital ballast. The only upside I can see to that light is that it's capable of running varying wattage bulbs of varying types.
